Volcano Update: Kilauea Is No Longer Erupting Lava (May 27, 2021)
HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK - The USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory has lowered the Volcano Alert Level for Kilauea from WATCH to ADVISORY.
A synthesized voice was utilized in the narration for this story. Video and photos are from the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

The mantle has decided to send all available lava to Iceland.

“A synthesized voice was used in the production of this video.” Really? Then it’s the most lifelike synthesized voice I’ve ever heard! Regardless, I’ve appreciated the straightforward reporting and clearly understood explanations presented during this time.

Thanks to everyone involved in making these - every question I have as a former geology student seems to be anticipated and answered promptly while still being approachable for my mom. Also I still don't believe that voice is synthesized 😉 kudos to all
Came for volcano update, stayed for crazy synthesized voice narration.
I am no geologist, volcanologist, whatever, but I am inclined to think the magma is trying to find another place to surface...
Thank you. The end of a chapter. The saga continues.
Thanks for the show Kilauea! Now off to watch Geldingadalir!

Perfectly summarized. --- Thanks for the great coverage. ---
There's a lot of earthquake activity down and around the Pāhala area in the lower Volcano district. Does that mean lava is moving in another direction from the eastern rift zone?
@bkreativepainting7461

Depending on the shape of kilaueas magma chamber, the end of the eruption is a signal of the depletion of magma from the chamber and indicates magmatic pressure has dropped, this can cause deformation to the interior of the chamber and earthquakes can occur as a result of rock breaking off without the pressure to hold it up
I just noticed this morning (Thursday) that the air in Honolulu was noticeably more clear. Even though Kilauea is 200 miles away, and usually downwind, the is an effect on our air can be seen.
Famous last words...
Thanks for all these excellent updates BIVN. You've kept me entertained from a quarter of a globe away. I'm spending my time watching the Iceland eruption now on Reykjavik Grapevine.
Thank you. Will B.I.V.N. be reporting on Mauna Loa activity?
If it’s not at the summit is it gonna break through else where? Like last time.
Where's all the people saying it's the end of times because 'all these volcano's' are erupting around the world? How does this fit into your narrative?
@bmolitor615

...crickets... all I'm hearing is... crickets...
Providing there are no more lava intrusions in the crater itself, will it be possible in the future to descend into it and explore the hardened lava lake crust?
What is this voice? How can I buy it? The most memorable there than the volcano was this voice!
Wonder if it's now in a pressure build up stage where one day pressure of the gases supercedes that of the solidified lava cork, then it goes kaboom? Or maybe a kaboom collapse like Mount Mazama did in forming Creator Lake?
At least the current volcanic activity in Iceland has been very entertaining while Kilauea is taking a nap, for now.
Big Island is moving off the rift zone. What a time to be alive.
Do lava lakes stay molten after eruptions end or does the whole 700+ foot deep lake cool and solidify?
@miguelvelazquez5480
3 жыл бұрын
It may take years but it would eventually solidify. Due to the slow cooling it will form big crystals and form into granite, topped by the current basalt crust.
I hope HVNP considers opening up more of crater rim drive at least to pedestrian traffic
@seriouslyreally5413

They have to rebuild the access road that went to the observatory and re- sound the building. The 2018 eruption severely cracked the visitor center building foundations when the crater subsided closing them indefinitely. The main access road became part of the rim collapse and has to be filled in and rebuilt
Gonna come back , biggee
Still don't believe thats a synthesised voice! And that's the best compliment so I con feel bad.

that lake is going to form one giant plug when it completely cools which means either a major explosion in future or another rift opening somewhere in suburbs

@@craighunter9066 Kilauea actually does tend to erupt explosively a surprising amount of times. But that is due to magma-water interactions, not the volcano getting plugged up.

Sad. I enjoyed this one, but it seems Iceland has stolen the show.
The one in In celand is going bananas
By ‘erupting’ I assume that means molten lava is not on the surface? Is the vent not issuing lava under the crust?
Scary. Better not cause Mauna Loa to become more active😬
