    Hi Jan, thanks for this update video about the situation in Iceland. It is very true that the media sometimes gets overdramatic about a threat which makes some people more nervous. Once again, I hope that everything works out for the best for all those affected in Iceland. Best wishes for your travels abroad next month.

    Thank you Ben! I didn't watch too much what international media and tv channels in my home country were sharing and so it was a surprise when from all of the sudden everyone at home started calling me worried about my safety here in Iceland.

    I’m intensely frustrated with all the sensational reporting & people cancelling holidays listening to Social Media ‘experts’. There are a number of experts I’ve come across & they explain it well, we can not hope to understand it all but dare I say common sense needs to play a part. I have no intention of cancelling my trip mid January, unless of course it ends worse than anyone thought & my Government advises ‘Do Not Travel’ which would cancel out Insurance if I did travel & I needed help. My heart breaks for the residents of Grindavik, it must be incredibly difficult for them. Thanks for this video 🙂

    Hi Jan, I just returned from Iceland after spending 6 fun and exciting days in your beautiful country . I was able to do all the adventures that I planned , glacier hiking , Golden circle tour , bathed in Sky lagoon and saw the Northern lights . Before leaving a week ago I listened to your Utube reports snd those of various scientist ( volcanologist)and felt that it was safe to go . Thank you for your calm and measured reporting, and advice . I will definitely be returning at some future date !

    Thank you for sharing this, Ivette! I'm so glad you enjoyed your time here in Iceland. You've been very lucky with the weather, too- which has been amazing for traveling this month - at least here in the northern part of the island. So glad everything worked out for you :)

    WE are booked into the Northern Lights Inn, right beside Blue Lagoon, in mid Jan 2024. So we are still planning to come but we will probably have to make other accomodation arrangements as long as Iceland Air is still planning to bring us there! Thanks for the update.

  • @janiniceland

    @janiniceland

    8 ай бұрын

    Oh yeah absolutely. Like I mention in the video it is only this one part of the island that is not safe, the rest of the island is completely safe to travel. We'll see how the situation will evolve after the volcano erupts but it hopefully shouldn't affect the flights. Regarding the lava, well I guess it depends on many things. Usually it takes couple of days after the eruption to determine if and where it is safe to let public visit the site and it depends on many factors like wind direction, dangerous gases levels and so on. But with some luck you can get very close and see lava. Or book a helicopter tour.@@realChewky
