What a true patriot and sense of duty to volunteer at 18. Bless this man and thank you sir for bringing these stories to us. I've always thanked our veterans for serving but now thanks to your channel, I say 'welcome home' first to our Vietnam veterans.

Larry, thank you so much for these stories. I was in the Marine Corps right after the end of the Vietnam War. On Okinawa when Saigon fell. Several Marines had PTSD, and we didn't know what it was . I'm so proud to be an old Marine. Thanks again, Larry. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergant.

@imeldaaleman1498 I served from 5Oct73 to 4Oct77. I went to Parris Island Plt 395. Then on to Camp LeJeune 2nd Force Service Regiment Jan-Jul74. Off to Okinawa 3rd Force Service Regiment Aug74 - Sep75 Camp Foster Okinawa and back to Camp LeJeune 2nd Force Service Support Group Sep75 to Oct 77.

Correct. Going in/ out as a unit is key, for many,many practical reasons. The Aussie s that served down south believe it was a major factor. Rotation defeats the unit integrity that is the single MOST factor that makes the Corps work.

Those salutes always get me!

I'm always watching your videos and it was expecially excited when I seen this one with Private Lawrence with the 173rd.the Excitement comes to me because my uncle also serves with the 17 third in Vietnam I was just a kid when he came back home you never really talked about it before gently he died without me knowing his story and since I have no other family I may never know the story.. so I can turn you to look at everything I can on the internet dealing with 173rd hoping to see his face or hear his last name mentionuoned by someone, knowing what little I do about my uncle, this is what know... United States army staff Sergeant Robert Gean Mansfield was it Korean war vet,, was stationed in Okinawa training sky soldiers , then going over himself and I thought he wants told me he jumped into Vietnam, can't remember the operation name but the only combat mission there was, so you can see my excitement I was hoping to hear his name but Mr Lawrence didn't mention any names of those Sargent's in Okinawa... Still great story one helluva guy...

I don’t think I would have the courage to ever repeat ever ask a Marine if he was a rifleman! Marines are taught to be rifleman first. Deep emphasis on that. I am not a veteran . I was just an army national guard . We qualified with rifles every year but we were never considered rifleman or I wasn’t. That was about 40 years ago.
