Thank you for this opportunity to see and hear my Brother again .John s locker was next to mine in Tower Ladder 77. We often started and ended our tours together .John shared may personal experiences,as Firefighters so often do. We often spoke of the loss of his sister Kathleen as she was a victim of the Pan Am bombing ,over Scotland .John like many members of the FDNY became closer friends as the years went on. I too was working in FDNY HQ on a full duty assignment that morning .And responded ,only to experience the imaginable.The understanding that this would be an unprecedented event .There would no doubt be catastrophic injuries and loss of life.However many of us agree,We did not expect the collapse of the North and South towers or building 7 later that afternoon.I can not say ,I had a feeling of fear,or guilt afterwards perhaps there was to much work to be done.Then and in the years that followed .No doubt A that a search for leadership was paramount .You looked to your training and the trusted leadership of officers and firefighters you responded with during your career .Admittedly haven’t seen people kneeling in prayer ,holding and caring for each other as they cried was a luxury I just did not have at that moment .There was to much to do.As time moved on the reality of those lost set in.At funerals and memorials .I found myself faced with both physical and emotional challenges in 2006 . I agree John it was in Gods hands as to who lived or died.Along with the loss over the next 23 years . We ( John and several other firefighters) established a support group in SINY which continues to this day 2024 .Sadly John was taken from us on Christmas Eve do to a surgical procedure that went terribly wrong ,this was during COVID .Most ,recently a celebration of life was held for John organized by his son .John Jr an outstanding young man in his own right .I had the privilege to speak briefly at the service as did many others . Finally a memorialized John !!! John was my childhood friend ... My father worked with johns father also fdny John has overcome alot. He lost his sister in the terrorist bombing pan am flight 103 over lockerbie it also troubled his soul..911 took a toll on him . John was a humble soul...before his untimely passing complications from kidney stone surgery :-( He had been proud of his coaching Football for tottenville HS Im impressed listening to this interview some aspects of John i never knew. Thank you Larry for posting John’s incredibly moving account of his day in the battle of 9/11. I was with John 43 years ago in college at SUNY ONEONTA . He generously donated to their 9/11 memorial on campus where he is honored every year. As I watched the video I noticed what was missing was the sparkle in his eyes. I see it was replaced with trauma and pain.Some lose their lives and some lose their ability to live their lives out from under that shadow. You made history John, but the price was enormous . True to your character of kindness, generosity and sensitivity, you continue to reach others through the legacy you left behind. I am honored to have known you. Just like that day, you will always be remembered in my heart and so many others. ❤Terri

When he was talking about going into the building, jumpers, body parts, and being traumatized, you can see in his face that all these years later he still can see the horror he and many others experienced that day.

That's why I call that day and time a war zone and a battle story. They experienced the same things that day as any of the Veterans I've interviewed over the years who saw and experienced combat. An incredible telling of 911 and what Mr. Jermyn went through. The videos at the front remind us of a sad day in our history. One very telling shot was of the firemen running away from the towers. As we all know, firemen don't run away in fear. They were running because they knew and understand what was about to happen before the buildings collapsed. God blesss you Mr. Jermyn, and thank you for your service. RIP Sir.

Chet, I didn't know John had passed away until just the other day. His interview has since taken on an even deeper meaning and significance in my life. It's an honorable burden to carry and to bear.

Hundreds of years from now people will still be able to hear these men’s stories from their own mouth, documenting these kinds of things is so important. Great work.

Really enjoyed listening to John telling his story regarding 9/11 what a wonderful guy, a true gent and true professional who did his job to the best of his ability 100% a long with his colleagues. all true legends in my eyes, so sad he lost his life but will never be forgotten thats for sure. i'm from the UK and i'm so proud of the NYFD & NYPD etc who put their lives on the line to help others in this terrible situation on that terrible day, a day we will never forget. I have nothing but respect for this guy and his reasons for telling his story. He is obviously still shaken by the experience he had that day. Fortunately few people come so close to seeing real evil. His take on freedom is spot on it's not free. As a brit I don't understand why some people hate the way of life we in the UK and our friends in the USA enjoy to the point that they are prepared to commit atrocious acts like 9/11 in the states 7/7 in London or the brutal attack on British soldier Lee Rigby. Certain elements are depraved and sick. Again nothing but respect for this man.

I want to express my gratitude for conducting these interviews. They hold significant importance in preserving our history. Your meticulous and respectful approach truly shines through in your work. I am deeply appreciative of the dedication you pour into your channel.

Dear Andee, thank you for your kind words and watching this amazing story with John. I was deeply saddened when I found out he had passed away almost 5 years ago. He was one of my heroes. All of my Veterans, military, police, fire, are my heroes. I found out John's sister, Kathleen Jermyn, was killed in a terrorist bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland, December 21, 1988. Larry, I am so grateful for the incredible work you have done to memorialize the people and events of that day. In my opinion, it was by far the most epic event and on so many levels. I can imagine some of the things they experienced, but until I began watching and listening to the many survivors stories of that day, and I never imagined much of what they experienced. To hear John tell his story and see his face, impressed me to the core. May God Bless the brave man and again thank you for your dedication and great work!

Hey Steve, it's been difficult losing so many Veterans of my work. As one gentleman put it, "It's an honorable burden to carry or to bear." I believe I suffer from compassion fatigue syndrome. Anyway, I'm so grateful for John's story, and for your story and the others. Hope to see you soon.

Was in Burlington Iowa doin telecommunications for a company from aurora Colorado Universal solutions inc..think it was a qwest job and we watched from our hotel room then they called work off worried coms sites would be a target so we drove home to eastern Ky 9hrs away. I had a 97 twin turbo 3000gt vr-4 so made the trip fairly quick…horrible day Larry..I’ll never forget..🇺🇸🙏🏻

Wow i truly get inspired listening to these hero and all the people coming togheter! We need alot of this today, sad he passed away but he is still in our thoughts! Love you all

I remember exactly what I was doing and where I was on this day. Thank you John for your service. And all the firefighters EMT's Port Authority. Regular police everyone all heroes in my book and shame on those son of a guns thought they were gonna take America. Down for good. New yorkers are too strong and proud to be brought down by these bad people. Thank you, Larry for posting this. The whole 911 series has been an eye opener and I am old enough to remember it perfectly.

I will never forget this day. 😢 I was watching the news and saw the first and second planes hit the towers.. I remember the fire from the towers and noticed that the burning flames looked just like the face of SATAN!! I cried then and I'm 😢 now.. I pray for the first Responders and Victims that God be with them and all of us..❤❤

Crazy that 20 years ago people from the country went to war because of something that happened in Manhattan. That would never happen today. Now days they would fight eachother before defend each other

I did not know that years later people were still dying from it I remember it well I could never understand why they fell with having earthquakes but as he said they said it would happen in the filim the towering inferno Steve said at the end people would be killed in them one day
