Thanks so much for your going back to older Voice Play- love your reactions! Voice Play is so versatile in that their theatrical productions have evolved into something amazing but they still give us the raw acapella by continuing to release three mini/shorts every month. I agree about Geoff's higher range as he has worked so hard on that as he gets older and his voice gets deeper (I am more blown away by his high notes now!) Speaking of minis and Geoff's high range, I still recommend that you check out Voice Play's mini, "Peaches" as it reminds us that Geoff may be an alien.

Oh I am so glad a reactor has finally mentioned the “vocoder” section! That’s my favorite part! Geoff singing the words with bass, instead of a bass line, along with the tight harmonies is what gives it that cool effect. This is one of their most severely underrated covers, for sure!

@@darlaalonzo2177 I wonder how long it'll be until VoicePlay's newest subscriber hoists themselves over to their Patreon and joins! :P (it took me about 3-4 months, but it would've been even sooner if I wasn't unemployed at the time... as soon as I'd settled into the new job, I immediately became one of the Patrons. Best money spent each month ever! Zero regrets)

Dave, I'm so glad to see you react to this! I've just been playing this one recently, and it's so great -- especially those stacked harmonies that you replayed starting at 7:35. I'm a new VoicePlay fan and I just love the variety and innovation in their catalog

As much as I love their newer more experimental works (and you will soon see what I'm referring to) I always love the straight standing or sitting on a stool a Capella performances they treat us to, kind of glimpse into what a live performance would be like and those minis! This right here is one of my favorites.

My goodness, I forget sometimes that J None has a ridiculously good upper register. Earl usually took the spotlight with the soaring high notes, and now Eli takes those more often than not, but J None, man. Such a beautiful voice no matter where he sings.

It will never not amuse me that the Navy has J None singing bass in their choir ROFL!!! Yes, we know that J can hit some amazing low notes, but his crisp upper register is out of this world.... his voice in The Lion Sleeps Tonight was absolutely stellar

@@zarasha8220 Since VoicePlay covered the Lion sleeps Tonight back in their 4:2:Five days I couldn’t imagine them doing it without Earl. I was astonished to find out it was going to be J that had some of those crazy high notes. (Not to discount Cesar with his whistle notes).

VP gets better with every cover. Each member is a master of his instrument. If you want to explore a bass a cappella singer who covers every track from high tenor to deep bass, listen to Tomi P. His cover of “Hellfire,” “My Mother Told Me,” and “No Time to Die” are all beyond belief

I've always liked this song, but until now, I realize that I didn't actually "get it." Something about this arrangement brought out the way this song was supposed to be heard and understood. It might just be as simple as being able to understand every single word - something I really love these guys for - they ARTICULATE everything perfectly. You'll never find anything of theirs on the "misheard lyrics" memes. :D I've been a Pentaholic for a few years now, but frankly, VoicePlay has edged them out of the top spot.

I too am a long time Pentaholic (bought their first album back in like 2011) and still enjoy their music... but it's just never hit the same ever since Avi left. I will always be a Pentaholic (and Home Fry!!) but there is no doubt in my mind that VoicePlay are a league of their own, above and beyond all the other a cappella groups out there. That's not to say the other groups aren't phenomenal, they are, they just don't have whatever magic it is that VoicePlay bring to the table. Maybe it's because pretty much from their inception, they've been fully independent artists & not weighed down by restrictions, limitations, and maintaining a certain sound/appearance to keep a record label happy. Total creative freedom to arrange and produce whatever the hell they want, whenever they want, and being in full control of the entire video process allows these obscenely talented men to make truly amazing art.

I miss Earl. Voiceplay seemed more innocent and played it safe with Disney classics and pop music. I love that J None does appearances. Voiceplay now is insane though. Layne’s always had that dog in him and Geoff evolved, you’re right, but Eli oh my lord I don’t have the words to describe his vocal transformation
