    We are so sorry for the audio issues AGAIN!!!!! We are firing our video editor (Chase) 🤣. Actually.....Chase is a volunteer and is not paid.....so i guess you get what you pay for 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🤦🏻‍♂️ 😂 Chase was pointing out at the first audio drop that Hwasa and Wheein were singing in different registers.

    Hi! Loved the reaction and the analysis :) Killing voice is a series of the dingo channel, Mamamoo were the fist guests on it! The concept is to highlight their voices with their own songs. This, Immortal songs medley and their performances on queendom (decalcomanie and I miss you) are what I would recommend the most!

    Rather than immortal songs melody I suggest you guys to react to their separate immortal songs performances eg: Delilah,backwoods,wonderful confession etc. And then go for immortal songs melody ( compilations of all songs they sang in immortal songs) for better understanding of each songs,their vocal techniques and texture otherwise it will be same as dingo performance like half of every song rather than full version!!!

    Solar is LOUD. And I’m not just talking about her singing, though it applies there as well. Her laugh is LOUD. When startled, her scream is LOUD. When she’s excited, her talking can get very LOUD. She’s a LOUD person. It looks like she’s working hard, but when she belts, that power comes out pretty easily for her. Just an incredibly powerful set of pipes on her.

    34:22 Yes, this is the format of all Killing Voice / Killing Verse videos hosted by the Dingo channel. All performances are live and are essentially a medley of that artists catalog of songs. Killing Voice is for Korean singers (Kpop, KRnB, KHip-Hop) and Killing Verse is for Korean Rap. There isn't an exact number of songs performed though. I think it's more or less that artists (or their management team) choice which songs they do and in which order. Side note - The IU and Ailee Killing Voice videos are also very good if you're interested in some other ones to check out.

    Super interesting discussion about their technique. Voice teachers always love Wheein's voice the most so the surprise was Melia picking Solar. Obviously they're all terrific and nobody's preference is wrong but Solar is my favorite too. I value singers who move me more than singers with "good" technique and Solar is the one who can make me cry at the oddest times just by bending a note. Imo the clarity and purity of her voice isn't just a technical choice - I think she taps into the emotional core of the song with unfiltered directness, an open heart and enormous generosity. I often experience her singing as a moment of spiritual grace. You might want to watch the MV for her cover of the ballad Nada Sou Sou. If you want to check out one of Mamamoo's recorded vocal masterpieces try the Paint Me MV. Hwasa does some vocal gymnastics in Paint Me I would love to hear explained. I also think you'd like their live performances on the girl group competition tv show Queendom. They did a beautiful full version of I Miss You and 3 songs that include dancing: Decalcomanie, Good Luck and Destiny. TV shows usually block reactions but MNET is ok with reactions to Queendom.

    I like Solar's voice too. "always" is over exaggerated, "seldom" is what I have seen (I research a little bit about various opinions). Most of the vocal coaches don't give ranking easily beause there are so many perspecitives in singing and also preferences. I have heard voice teachers who praise Solar's skills a lot and encourage students to learn from her for her managment of mixed registers but not immediately because a balanced mix is more easier (for most people) than a strong mix, which is Solar's specialty and she manages it very well and steady from low to high. She already sounded like that in her casting for RBW in 2012. Sometimes, I think it is her gift. (I am no expert just based on what I have heard and read, here we have voice teachers who can take over the discussion). I am actually very glad to hear Chase and Melia praised her control and resulting beautiful belted voice. That impressiveness is what have amazed most of the audiences. BTW, Nada Sou Sou makes me cry almost every time. That MV feels like a metaphor of Solar's journey to become a singer.

  • @kudgeond755

    @kudgeond755

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@linkazoo Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yeah, I debated about "always" but I don't recall a voice coach ranking that didn't have Wheein at the top of the list. Voice coach/teacher discussions are interesting but as they're using the singing as an educational tool they naturally focus on the techniques they can see, hear and demonstrate rather than the unquantifiable aspects of artistry. Each member is fabulous and very different, which gives them a lot to contrast and compare. Where Are We Now might be the best example - imo their voices at the beginning of the song are like elemental forces of nature: earth (Hwasa), wind (Wheein), fire (Solar), and water (Moonbyul). I probably should have suggested that MV along with Paint Me. Solar's belting is always a topic for voice coaches because they focus on the amount of strain and neck tension they observe. When I first saw her belt in some of the old Immortal Songs performances I would sometimes wince and think "That's gotta hurt" despite not being a singer myself. I think we've all seen that over the years she's found a balance that works for her where she can let it fly without hurting herself and Chase & Melia seemed to agree. It's been a long time since I winced when Solar belts. The power belting is what she's most known for but the heartfelt ballads like Nada Sou Sou are the ones that kill me softly. I always lose it when the child turns into adult Solar as walks through the door. It's certainly her story as well as an expression of gratitude to her mom for doing what she could for her despite not having the money to afford a real piano. Her sense of gratitude and intense desire to give back is also what fuels her fan songs to moomoos, which is why I think her open heart and enormous generosity is the core of her technique and artistry. 😂

    @@kudgeond755 Same here, I lost every time after the kid enters her mother's resturant and turns into adult Solar in the MV. The smile and the flowers on her hand are just too much to handle emotionally. I was wrecked before I even relates to Solar's personal story. I remembered Solar's once said that she feels regret for not learning music earlier and if she can go back to the past she would ask her parents to let her learn piano. Is this true? I cannot find the source about this statement but find it from discussion among fans. Besides, I like your interpretation of the core of her technique and artistry. It amplifies the emotion even more 😭 About the belting techniques and anything about ranking, you did a good summary and I am in no position to discuss further technically as it is not my expertise. Now, I only feel at ease that she is doing well and she could belt high notes easily even she just opens her mouth in WHERE ARE WE NOW. I have seen several live versions of the song and her consistency is very impressive. BTW, how do you like her new OST?

  • @kudgeond755

    @kudgeond755

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@linkazoo I don't know the real story of her childhood so I always took the Nada Sou Sou MV to mean that she learned a little bit, enough to inspire her. Since music has become her life she probably meant that she wishes she studied piano properly when she was a child. She must have had lessons at some point because she plays quite well in those old vids of her & Wheein or accompanying herself in the rehearsal studio. I've only listened to the new OST once and tho the song didn't immediately grab me I thought she did a good job with it. It's an odd song - sounds like a typical OST at some times and then gets weird at others. I need to listen to it a few more times.

    @@kudgeond755 I also have no idea about her background before her career. It is a pity that she doesn't play piano and sing in her recent performance. I like the styles in "Love is you" and "No cool! sorry". My feeling about her new OST is similar to yours. I think the problem is the style, probably too focus on specific emotion without a more complete story-telling. Maybe it would be better in LIVE as Solar has the ability to enhance the feeling in her live performance such as the live versions of Spit It Out is way better than the one in MV. Killing Voice with Big Mama would be an amazing medley of songs with their voices for you to react to. They are older ladies but as vocalists there is LOTS to enjoy and discuss together.

    Full group stuff to check out: - Immortal Songs Medley (live) - Wonderful Confession (live) - You, In my Fading Memory (live) - I Miss You full version - Piano Man - Mr. Ambiguous - Decalcomanie - Woohoo - My Star - Gleam (this song is great for comparisons imo) Solo stuff: Solar - Spit it Out, her entire Solar’s Emotion series Moonbyul - Absence, In My Room Wheein - Easy, Goodbye, 25, With My Tears Hwasa - María, In the Fall Also! Thank you so so much for reacting to Mamamoo at all. I learned so much from you two about how hard the girls are working. My Wheein-stanning heart is also so happy to hear all the praise that she’s getting from you two. Many folks really tend to focus on Hwasa, Solar, and Moonbyul and no one really mentions Wheein so I’m so happy to see that this wasn’t the case here. You really focused on each of the vocalists very well and I loved that so much. Again, thank you!

    Yessssssss i love Big Mama but its unfortunate that they’ve been overlooked by the kpop masses because of not fitting the stereotypical kpop girl group. Ailee is amazing too, So Hyang also and also one of YG’s former artiste, Kim Ji Eun. I love her album and vocals! Too bad she’s so underrated.😞 I think Kim Ji Eun also formed a group for a short time with some former girl group members but I cant remember the name of that shortly lived girl group.

    I was shocked with Melia chose Solar. Most professionals choose Wheein. Solar's vocals are also my favorite. She gives so much emotion into her singing. She has made my cry many times when I didn't even understand the lyrics of the song. She is a hard worker and you can always tell she's giving 110%. You should check out her performance of Speechless.

    I highly recommend reacting to their immortal songs medley performance! Getting insane vocals is already a given when it comes to a Mamamoo performance, and I believe it really highlights what I believe to be one of their best charms--their showmanship!!

    Yes she is effortless. Hwasa’s voice is on a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT level, she can go low or so high she can shock you, but what i love about her voice is that she has this very suave and almost like a whisper singing it’s just so gorgeous she gives me goosebumps ❤

    I think you should react to akmu, they are siblings who write their own songs which are really nice and unique and I find their voices so complementary and beautiful.
