It can’t be the anthem since we are territory of US and one of the main part of the song is a critic of USA and that we should be free with our own flag is a revolutionary song . . As a Puerto Rican this song represents such a big part of our culture, it’s a song that makes you feel like even if our island is not that big in size, we’ll forever be proud of who we are and our voice will be forever heard with pride of our island even on the moon. Excuse me while I wipe my tears and breathe the air that has filled my chest with pride. I agree with Marilyn, this should be our new anthem

Side note: There's a part in this video where he yells out Puñeta! really loud, it's a curse word in Spanish but one that's used more commonly by us Puerto Ricans to show the highest level of emotion about a subject. He really immerses himself into his music but no other song brings out the most emotion from him as this one. A true gem of a human within our culture who loves his heritage and isn't afraid to show it.

I may be biased as a Puerto Rican lol but I had the honor and privilege of seeing him live and I promise it’s just as electric !

Just wanted to add to everyone’s comments that this particular video was from a fundraiser concert done for the people of PR after hurricane Maria wreaked havoc on the island, his emotions in this absolutely matched the emotion of so many of us in the US that saw what the people were going through while, desperately trying to reach out to our loved ones still there. Thanks for covering great singers all over the world, I ❤️ your channel!!!

All Puerto Ricans I know love The Island of Enchantment. Our parents passed the pride and love to us.

Since I haven't seen a comment yet saying this. The first time this version was sung was for the Banco Popular's TV Christmas Special, I think in 1998, in honor of composer Rafael Hernández. It was an immediate hit on the island and, honestly, Marc Anthony couldn't have been more popular and liked. What I would call the soneo at the end of the song was added for the Christmas special. That is why you hear him naming Rafael, the composer of this song and so many other Puerto Rican classics, and him calling out his roots since he is a Nuyorican.

LOVE THIS SONG! SO PROUD OF BEING PUERTORICAN! Its sad that this performance was at the time of the Hurricane María, and we didn’t have internet or electricity to watch it. However, it’s make me so proud! Thank so much for your reaction!

This was a fund raiser after the devastating hurricane María. This song should have been our anthem. After Hurricane María all Puerto Rico got up to rebuild and raise again singing this song as a motivational anthem that lifted up our spirits and soften our hearts. Thank you all...
