I would LOVE to hear Billie do a jazz album. She would kill that

YES! I would love that as well! Honestly, between Samara joy (whom he’s already reacted to on this channel), laufey (whom I also love), and Billie, it seems like I’m seeing more Gen Z artists with jazz or jazzy inflections in their tonal quality. Maybe it’s just me idk. I would like to hear it more.

For whatever reason, I was thinking of you after watching this. Hope that’s not weird lol. Billie is a wonder to behold. Her intentionally breathy, airy tone brings a certain level of contemplation and sadness that the song (wwimf) is supposed to convey imo. A lot of people who don’t know a damn thing about singing, say she just whispers when that’s not the case. It’s amazing that she’s able to do what she does so consistently too. Also you did this on her birthday! She turns 22 today!

@@raquelviula3694 Tristan's still making up for his limited knowledge about Billie's style of singing. He overdoes it in many videos and now that's all he talks about. I'd rather vocal coaches give complete assessment of all aspects of the performance.

Love Love Love listening to u analyze Billie!! She's one of my favorite contemporary pop vocalists. I've always felt that she was incredibly skilled & most often very intentional in her vocal choices. I also feel like she's spent so much time with her instrument that she naturally stumbles into really beautiful unintentional &/or spontaneous moments. Thank u for this one!!

People talk a lot about how she catches her breath so much, but actually you lose a TON of air when you sing super breathy like she does and you have to get more air more often. Just give it a try sometime if you sing and you'll see what I mean. You can actually go much longer between breaths when you sing in full voice because you press down and hold that air back more.

Today is Billie's Birthday (22 - 12/18/2023) - you have probably never seen Billie do Peggy Lee's "Fever" [SoCalLiveitLive, July 28, 2022 @ the Hollywood Bowl], but Christian McBride really (I believe) helped to draw out the best in Billie, - I'm so glad he was here for "Have Yourself..." You are so good! - I'm 69 and have had yrs of Grad. school (not in Music!, but I know good instructors when I hear them), You and The FAIRY VOICE MOTHER (channel name) and BIG BRAIN TEACHER (channel name - Charlie Calotta, who reacted to 16 yr. old Billie covering Michael Jackson's 'Bad" - because it is so restrained or subdued, I couldn't believe Charlie took the time to do that - but it was so good - you would like it - Finneas was excellent harmonizing. [Big Brain Teacher, Nov. 12, 2021] but this reaction was JUST GREAT! I love Billie and I have a very good ear for music - my son, a Voice Music Major and my ex-wife (M.MUS from Northwestern would confirm that - chanting the Liturgy for 32 years! I think a JAZZ Album would or some "jazzier" Christmas music - with Finneas & Christian McBride would get them both out of the studio, away from all the computerized (I'm out of my depth here) and using real (I'm 70!!) instruments - though WWAFAWDWG is mind boggling (to me) in its musicality and creativity/originality - Happy Holidays!

There is a video from a couple of weeks ago where she talks about the song and demonstrates a few other completely different “no air” ways & techniques she could have used to sing it. The breathiness was a specific choice due to the song’s ethereal, existential nature. Barbie is standing in an unworldly white space when the song is played in the movie.

I think the song is gorgeous and she imbues it with heartbreaking emotion. That said, the catch breaths in the recording after every phrase drive me a bit insane. After watching her and her brother go over how they stitch together dozens of takes to make the songs, why leave that in? Once I hear it, it's all I can focus on.

I have to admit that when I heard Merry Little Christmas during the show it stopped me in my tracks. One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. Hopefully we get a Jazz album from her sooner rather then later, she can definately make that work but not at the expense of her fans.

Jaron, I am a - as of yesterday! - 70 yr. old Billie fan - I believe in her - and I love her version of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" ... BUT ... I still think the "HAVE" on "HAVE Yourself ..." is too soft. And - in my mind - it is the only shortcoming on the song - or if not a shortcoming - if it were a even a little louder, it would be even better - Don't you think so? It seems to me - it IS a choice, but I wonder why Billie didn't add even just a bit more volume or maybe that's the key - it invites us in ... almost as if to say "are you listening ...[do you hear what I hear?"[ ... yourself a Merry little Christmas" .

Stop. Do you speak in real life in such a cruel manner? I doubt it. Once a message like this is posted, it’s forever. If you died tomorrow, is THIS kind of purposeful nastiness what you want your legacy to be? Hint. STOP. In the world of sadness, sorrow, and countless people being awful to each other, BE. KIND. I don’t like Ariana Grande and Mariah Carey. But I’d never insult them. I’m not that kind of person. Think about it. AND KNOCK IT OFF.
