I've always thought her voice brings to mind a muted smooth jazz trumpet. She has always been one of my favorite vocalists. There's no one else I've heard with a sound like hers. ❤️

My son was totally in love with Anita baker and her music. He would cut 🆙 my essence and ebony magazines just to put a picture of her in his pocket. He knew all of her songs and the lyrics. He told me that she was his woman 😂. He was just a little boy. Unfortunately he passed away from here when he was 12. I couldn't listen to her for a long time after he passed. But she is incredible

One of my favorite singers. Her voice is so sophisticated, rich and classy.
"Caught in the Rapture" Album is timeless and classic and an whole generation of babies were made off that album. We love Anita Baker sound, she is just so hard to duplicate.
She sat in that chair just SANGING effortlessly. Anita's tone and intonation reminds me a lot of Sarah Vaughan. This was another master-class analysis from you. Now that I think back to your Samoht analysis, I hear a lot of Anita Baker in how he approaches his tone and lax phrasing.

Her live vocals are always fantastic. I loved your technical breakdown of this gifted artist. Her phrasing and articulation is fantastic. No one can communicate a lyric quite like Anita. I'm so happy that we have a review of this live performance of this song by Anita Baker. The way she slides, glides, wallops across a song never ceases to amaze me. There's not a single skip in her catalogue. She still gives me chills to this day. There are 4 songs of hers that I keep close to my heart; Fairy Tales, I apologize, Body & Soul and No One In The World (which I found recently was a remake; Dionne did it the year prior on one of her albums). Nevertheless, I'm elated that you are doing a review of this. I am enjoying it here. Thank You

Another vocal coach that I watched explained that Anita sings in a legato style very present in jazz music. It almost sounds like this woman doesn’t breath when singing and she elongates a lot of words. She doesn’t hit a lot of runs, but she plays around with pronunciation interestingly.

Your analysis is so very helpful. I'm a singer and I really appreciate you breaking down the techniques of these phenomenal singers... and you're phenomenal yourself. Thank you much for your videos.
Fun fact you're correct she doesn't even realize she's doing that pucker she came to our family reunion on the Baker side of my family a long time ago and she sang it came naturally to her. My grandmother sings in that style too she has that light smooth voice except my grandmother was taught not to do that pucker but she still does it sometimes when singing her biological mother was my grandmother aunt. Singing runs on that side of my family they all sing in church. Anita has really enhanced her voice technically in person she sounds like a instrument 🎷 she's definitely iconic it's very hard to sing like that unless it comes to you naturally out of habit I think now she's older she's more aware of that technique cause now you can hear differences in her voice and the diction when she wants to change it up.
