@thomasdef634 please don't let your agenda scorn this beautiful quote.
This lyric was written by Kolbein Tumason, an Icelandic chieftain, Goði, in 1208 shortly before being killed in battle, the battle of Víðines. One of the most beautiful psalm written in Icelandic.
This is so well done that I instantly started to cry when I heard your absolutely beautiful singing. My father was a church organist for 39 years and this song was one of his all time favourites. When he passed away last year this was one of the songs in the funeral. Thank you guys for bringing back memories... and tears All the best from Iceland.
I absolutely love this. So beautiful to hear worship in the old tongue. If the northern lights have a sound, this is it.

@@hannahmccoy8336 Here you go. Hear, O smith of heavens, what the poet asks. May softly come unto me thy mercy. So I call on thee, for thou hast created me. I am thy slave, Thou art my Lord. God, I call on thee to heal me. Remember me, mild one, Most we need thee. Drive out, O king of suns, generous and great, every human sorrow from the city of the heart. Watch over me, mild one, Most we need thee, truly every moment in the world of men. send us, son of the virgin, good causes, all aid is from thee, in my heart.

Your native tongue is hauntingly beautiful.
What an almost perfect pronunciation of this 800-year-old Icelandic hymn, together with a masterful intonation in this beautiful music from 1974 from Dr. Þorkell Sigurbjörnsson.

“If it weren’t for music, I would think that love is mortal.” Mark Helprin
This makes my soul settle.
this song is lovelier and loftier than a cathedral. the sound itself is hallowed space. i want to live here, in the world of this song
Как же они чувствуют друг друга, это изумительно когда ты с другим рядом стоящим исполняет одной душой.
This song was played on my fathers funeral. Thank you for this beautiful piece of art.

I had it also played at my uncles funeral, (by other performers though) which I couldnt attent due to covid, as I live in Iceland and my family in Netherlands. My uncle also had a weak spot for Iceland. My family played this song the night before he died, and he smiled hearing it, clearly he loved to hear it even if he was barely concious. We had it play when he was brought into the chapel during the funeral as well. I wish I was there in person. This song has always enchanted me, no matter who sings it, but for funerals it really is a miracle potion of giving strength and serenity.

I can’t believe how Icelandic you sound! Please sing the other masterpiece of Icelandic choir music. Requiem by Jón Leifs.

Icelandic: "Hear the heavenly carpenter". Exquisitely beautiful. God Bless You All.
The novelist William Styron said he was alone in his house and contemplating suicide, when he heard a beautiful piece of music on television, and rang a friend to tell him how bad he was feeling. He couldn't have heard Voces8, since they were not around then, but I would recommend them to anyone in spiritual grief.
I heard this on a 9-1-1:Lone Star Season 3 Episode 18- Season Finale: A Bright and Cloudless Morning. Captain Strand(Rob Lowe) is trapped in a building that collapsed due to an explosion. He is faced with a memory from his past, when he was trapped in the Twin Towers with a police officer. This music was quite moving and haunting. Something I could fall asleep to and that is saying something, being an insomniac. There is a calm...a sense of peace, when this song is sung. Such heavenly and blessed voices. Just Beautiiful.🇨🇦

Closely akin to Danish. First Vikings to settle here. The Prime Minister's son, Thor, was in grad school in Denmark with my group.
@AnnaMaria-zm8cv

@@sarahhearn-vonfoerster7401 not at all. Its closer to old norse, which is this hymne sung in, as old Icelandic is quite identical to old norse. Danish is the second language here in Iceland as Iceland used to be part of the Danish kingdom, but they never managed to push their language as official, luckily not because celandic is too beautiful. Iceland was also not settled by Danish, they came after they claimed Iceland as their own, the settlers came mostly from Norway and brought slaves from Ireland, creating the genetic base of most Icelanders today. Icelandic is a beautiful poetic language that in spoken version is absolutely unique and unlike any other Scandinavian language. And sung its even more enchanting. Faroese may come close as a mixture between Danish and Icelandic.
Even though I cannot understand the words, I am trembling at the beauty of this rendition. Thank you for sharing it.
Exquisitely-done. Those suspended-fourths and tight-seconds (!) are brilliantly-realized. Your are true treasures, Voces8. One could meditate to the breathing. The deer on our hill draw nigh when they hear your music...

This performance is the very definition of music. Which is to say, this performance evokes an emotion so beautiful, so deep, so transcend it is beyond the capability of any language to describe.
Devotional hymn Heyr himna smiður was written by the Icelandic viking Kolbeinn Tumason in 1208, and then set to music in the 1970s by Sigurbjörnsson. The text reads: Hear, maker of the heavens, what the poet asks. May softly come unto me thy mercy. So I call on thee, for thou hast created me. I am thy slave, thou art my Lord. "cantare amantis est.” “Singing belongs to the one who loves.” “For he who sings praise, does not only praise, but also praises joyfully; he who sings praise, not only sings, but also loves Him whom he is singing about/to/for. There is a praise-filled public proclamation in the praise of someone who is confessing/acknowledging (God), in the song of the lover (there is) love.” ~ Augustine of Hippo
