Actually Beyonce has better growling technique than Whitney and Mariah but Whitney's and Mariah's growl sound amazing. Two Queens and Divas.

there’s no “growls that can’t hurt your throat” she just doesn’t go over board to the point where she’s straining so it doesn’t do as much damage as an untrained person

Beyoncé. Hers are healthy and well controlled, plus they sound really good.

GarageStudio they're about as damaging as falsetto or whistle is. She manipulates the air forcing extra air to cause the distortion. Unlike others who tighten their throats to squeeze the air.

Yes ...just like to have proper resonance and support you should have good breathe support and cordination of vocal chords ,in growl ,it should be done with proper breathe support ,it requires really great amount of breathe control ....while we sing in clean tone our vocal chords vibrate but in case of growling we don't wanna use our vocal folds ,there is called false vocal chord which is applicable for growling .If you want to know more ask me

As the person above Beyoncé’s was different from basically everyone else except a few who also did it the way she does. Beyoncé’s growls are very gospel and are growls that are closer to a “squal” than the rest. She does it by maintaining her placement, with the majority of the rest they lower their larynx and create tension (similar to clearing your throat) which causes the growl but it’s also why they can’t sustain notes in growls like she can. With Mariah for example (I’m gonna talk about her bc she typically had great technique and she’s one of my favs) her growls sound very different from the rest of her belting, her belting is very bright but when she growls she lowers her larynx and tenses which is why it sounds it sounds “heavier” than the rest of the phrase. With Beyoncé’s, her growled notes still have her tone as you can hear just with power added by the growl, her tone doesn’t change or get the froggy sound the majority of the rest do. It can be learned it’s just hard to explain, just try to think of placing the growl at the back of your mouth towards the top behind your soft palette rather than in your throat if that helps.

GarageStudio We’ll it’s not used in classical/opera settings which is why it’s not considered “healthy” technique-wise and because there is the potential for it to be damaging, but the way Beyonce does it is not damaging and therefore is a “healthy” way to distort the voice.
