    I really appreciate this. I have a really soft, high voice which I don't mind but when I sing high I cannot belt and now I know why. Hopefully these exercises will allow me to belt and give me more power to my voice when I sing.

    Can you please clarify.. I can do all of these excersises quite good, but singing a song is difficult task (I'm talking about high notes). What do you think about it? Does it mean if I do excersises very well, I'm supposed to sing properly or doing vocal excersises and singing are two different terms?

    It is because of the vowels you have to sing in head voice or the bridge. You must modify the vowels that give you problems. Watch this. It will help you: www.powertosing.com/ep-25-how-to-sing-high-notes-vowel-modifying-hacks/

    There are so many things you have to remember as a good singer, relax, larynx down breath, chin down the words of the song ..sheeesh!!! (';-)..

    Pick one thing. Begin with the low larynx.

    I have a query about the bubble lips here (which is more general across all the bubble lips exercises for the other vocal types too). When I first saw these exercises I thought you meant us to go into "falsetto"/"head voice" behind the bubble. Then I noticed that you said not to go into "falsetto". And you say the same for the other vocal types. So we're supposed to stay in full voice behind the bubble for all vocal types? Up to a B-flat? Is the idea that if you can't reach a B-flat with the bubble-plus-full-voice then you drop out when it gets too high? (Presumably for most people somewhere between an F and an A-flat?)

  • @PowerToSing

    @PowerToSing

    Yes Andrew, you don't want to break into falsetto doing any exercise. The Bubble lips is one of the exercises that helps keep the larynx down and the vowel narrowed. The air from the lungs is resisted by the vocal cords and the lip bubble. This creates back pressure on the larynx that and hold it down. You can even add a little of the dumb sound behind the bubble lip to further help the larynx stay down. At one time I couldn't get past the E, F, F#4. Now when I'm warmed up I can go up to the E, F#5 with the Bubble lips without a break or strain. I've been at it for a long time now.

    The same way for each. But in mix, it's reinforcing what is already there. And also to challenge and refine. But in PC/HL its to develop new muscle memory and replace the old.

    thanks a lot for the exercises! when I apply my tongue trill placement to the new new new - no no no, the highest notes sound frogy thin. I only hit them clean when singing in higher volume but that feels wrong. how do I find the right balance?

  • @PowerToSing

    @PowerToSing

    It's difficult to tell without hearing you, but the same thing happened to me. The high notes just seemed too light. I recorded myself singing a scale into the bridge and I was very surprised to hear the notes were much stronger than I expected. This is common because what we here inside our head is different that what the audience hears. Part of this is due to where the sound waves are hitting for head voice (soft palate) vs where they hit in chest voice (hard palate). The hard palate resonance seems so much stronger and louder than the soft palate. But the audience hears it louder than we hear and feel it. Also, you will develop a better balance and coordination over time that will allow you to press into the voice and stay in Mix or Head Voice. It takes some time, but it will come.

    Where should tip of the tongue "point" while practicing tongue thrills? Is that exercise more effective if the "rrr" vibration is more prominent/audible, or it should be kept at lower volume (vibration, not the "background" vowel)?

  • @PowerToSing

    Tongue is touching the roof of the mouth just behind the upper front teeth. The exercise is best when there is about equal amount of voice and air and vibration at medium to medium loud. Same for bubble lips.

    Hi Sir, I sing Indian classical light or film songs. I need to know whether all these exercises are good, and harmless to voice. I had this doubt because Indian singing and Western singing patterns are very different. Please inform.

    I do not like the tongue trill exercise at all. I find it very uncomfortable. My uvula is vibrating and it actually hurts. I don’t quite see the need for this exercise at all. The lip bubble absolutely. But the tongue trail I think it’s very uncomfortable and actually causes pain.

    Many can't do it at all. Bubble lips works great. The TT done correctly is great for students who can't to Bubble Lips. It also helps keep the larynx down even better than BL. And it's great for students who need to eliminate tension in the tongue. But when any vocal exercise causes pain, discontinue it immediately.

    Dear sir,how does mix voice feel like ?? I mean when we are singing in chest voice then if we touch our chest then we can feel vibration and we come to know that we are singing correctly in chest voice. As same as how can we know if I am correctly singing in mix voice or not??
