Pentatonix just use their voices (occasionally they do have Kevin playing his cello or something similar but they will always make sure the instrument is very visible, and t hey aim to only sing things they can perform live. They have just dropped a new listing for Hallelujah which is still gaining numbers. That is dated November 2021. The one which dates back to October 2016 is the one with 635m views.

You worked it out - Pentatonix is probably the premiere a capella band... and this is definitely one of the biggest songs they've ever attempted (and smashed!) No instruments! Kevin Olusola, on the far left, is their beatboxer/percussionist. When he sings, he is a tenor. Matt Sallee, on the far right, is the bass. He joined the group in 2017 when the original bass (Avi Kaplan 2011-2017) left. That has been the only member change in their 10 years together. Mitch Grassi started the song... he is variously referred to a tenor, countertenor or alto. This song is one of the highest he's ever belted, but his range will never stop surprising you 😆 Scott Hoying is the blond, he was singing in Italian. He classifies himself as a baritone, but he sings tenor often and covers the bassline if the bass has a solo. His range is a solid 4 octaves. Kirstin Maldonado is a mezzo soprano. As gorgeous as The Prayer was, Pentatonix is actually best known for converting pop and dance-type music to completely a capella arrangements. They have covers or originals in just about every genre, though. If you want to see the other types of music they do, you might want to try their Daft Punk medley (Mitch looks VERY different). Daft Punk is an Electronic Dance Music duo... and the medley is a mashup of 7 Daft Punk songs. They won their first of three Grammys for the arrangement. If you want more songs akin to this one, I'd recommend their cover of Hallelujah which is their most viral video at over 600 million views. They actually do also rap, for that you could try their cover of Can't Hold Us or Problem. Other popular songs people start with include their 90s Dance Medley, their Evolution of series (live one-take performances) like Evolution of Michael Jackson, Music, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and Rihanna... their cover of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody or John Lennon's Imagine. Or try some of their originals - Love Again is EDM, Run To You is 5 part harmony, Can't Sleep Love is R&B, Happy Now is pop-y... Coffee In Bed, Love Me When I Don't and Be My Eyes are all newer.

Oh, and try headphones for next Pentatonix reaction. You can hear the details, harmony, and vocal layering so much better.

They’ve won three Grammys: Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (song with no words performed without instruments), and a colab with Dolly Parton, Jolene. It’s so much fun to watch people react to PTX for the first time. This might be their best vocals and arrangement ever. Mitch (angel voice) and Kirstie look very different often it’s always them… only the bass has changed, Matt in this video replaced Avi the original bass in 2017. Honestly go to their playlist and pick a song you like, you won’t be disappointed.

NOT lip-syncing, Mitch Grassi has an amazing vocal range and works hard to perfect it. You can find live video of the group online and hear him for yourself. Yes, all voices, no instruments . They will use a cello (played by the beatboxer, Kevin Olusola) or a piano in some songs, but you will see the instrument in the video. Kirstin Maldonado, the only woman in the group, has been singing with Mitch and Scott Hoying (the blond baritone) since they were all in high school - Mitch and Kirstin can imitate each other's voices perfectly when needed. Kevin and Matt Sallee (bass) also sing as well as produce percussion and string bass/bass guitar effects.

HAHAHAHAHAH Mitch-slapped right out of the box. That's his real voice. welcome to the PTX rabbit hole. Separately, if any of them were to form their own group, they would be the lead artist, but together they are musical perfection, personified. every song they have done is in some way better than their last and it sets a standard few groups are able to reach.

Pentatonix is BY FAR the BEST a capella group EVER. I have been in love with their talent since they started their career on the tv show "The Sing Off". They don't use instruments, though there have occasions where they have had Kevin play his Cello. They have also done a couple covers, with other artists, where the artist used an instrument. But Pentatonix has always been, and will hopefully always be, strictly acapella. They have won 3 Grammy awards for songs they have covered..."Daft Punk", "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy", and "Jolene" which they performed with Dolly Parton. You should binge watch all their videos and become a Pentaholic like the rest of us lol.

I think this was genuinely one of my favorite Mitch-slaps ever lol

This group can perform songs from every genre of music...they have several songs with a similar vibe to this one (Amazing Grace, Hallelujah, Imagine), but also have several pop and R & B covers (I think you'd REALLY like Can't Hold Us, New Rules/Are You That Somebody (mash-up), Problem, Somebody That I Used to Know, and probably would also enjoy Royal, Bohemian Rhapsody, Sound of Silence), they do a couple Dance/EDM songs which is crazy since they are a capella (Daft Punk and 90s Dance Medley), they also have their Evolution series where they sing a 20-30 song medley from an artist (they have 1 for Michael Jackson, Rhianna, Ariana, & Queen B), several amazing originals (I think you'd really like Love Again for the beat boxing and bass), and an enormous selection of Christmas music (more upbeat options include, 12 days of Christmas, Oh Come All Ye Faithful, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, My Favorite Things, Little Drummer Boy). *videos span from like 2011 to current so they will look different depending on what year it is. *there has been 1 member change (the bass). Any video prior to 2018 will have Avi instead of Matt who you saw in this video *you'll get a lot of recommendations for Bohemian Rhapsody...if you've never heard the original by Queen please please please watch it before reacting to Pentatonix's version. Its one of their most epic performances but if you've never seen the original you'll miss out on a lot of what makes it so amazing Look forward to seeing more reactions 😄 And yes Mitch is amazing 👏

Although Matt (the bass) does a lot of bass guitar sound effects, and Kevin (the beatboxer) does percussion sounds, both of them can sing that good as well. ALL 5 could legitimately sing in their own band. They're all that good.

My recommendation is the LIVE version of their cover of Hallelujah. The official video has an absurd number of views but in my opinion, seeing them sing it live in real time is even more impressive. Also, Mitch (the first solo) and Kirstin (the only woman) have pretty close to the same actual range, and they can imitate each other in the backing vocals, but when they break out for their own parts you usually hear them like here - Mitch with that high clear voice of the angels, and Kirstin with the powerful belting.

You need to listen to these songs with Headphones to hear what all is going into each song they perform.

PTX is an a capella { voices only - no instruments ) group. One of - if not THE - Best in the World. Listen to their 'Daft Punk' & so many more. Mitch's voice is stunningly beautiful and always a surprise to first listeners. A 1 in 7 Billion voice, but each singer in this group has a unique & powerful lead vocal. Each could be a solo star in their own right - but their skill in harmonising is out of this world.

Great reaction! It is so pleasing to watch someone discover and react to Pentatonix for the first time! The amazing thing about them is that their live performances sound almost identical to their studio recordings, so you can tell that it is all their voices! This outdoes the original version with Andrea Bocelli/Celine Dion's version both for production (to be fair, they simply stood and sang) but also for vocals. Five people making as much sound as the orchestra and the singers, but also telling the story. Far more inspiring. I love Andrea Bocelli and have for years, but this version upgraded from the original. Scott is singing in Italian and Mitch is actually translating again like the original. And don’t forget they will do this live on tour. One thing especially good about PTX is they never record anything they can’t do live. This was the first song released on their newest album "Evergreen" for the Christmas tour 2021. This is not really a Christmas song but PTX made it work as one with the set.

I enjoyed your reaction so much and I hope for more PTX reactions from you guys! We can't watch them for the first time ourselves again but with you we can do it at least a little bit.. Please do more, we'll be there to watch!

They do not record any song that they cannot replicate LIVE, and the line-up of members has not changed much. The only change is the original bass (Avi Kaplan) left amicably in 2017; and was replaced by Matt Sallee. If you see videos of 2017 and prior, you’ll see Avi singing bass. It looks like they’ve changed other members-but they have not. Listen to their Popspring 2016 concert, they perform three of their own songs and a Michael Jackson medley, and they're great!

You got a double dose, first Mitch slapped and then Scott slapped. Mitch is the thin voice , Scott was the blonde guy with the deep voice. Other members are Kirstie the high note one, Kevin the beat boxer and cello player and finally last but not least Matt the bass singer.
