Vocal Coach Reacts to 'Tu Jhoom' | Naseebo Lal x Abida Parveen (ft. tecnhique analysis + happiness)

Ойын-сауық

Hello Singderellos,
In this video, I react for the first time to Pakistani singers Abida Parveen and Naseebo Lal performing ‘Tu Jhoom’ live at Coke Studio. In this video, I analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate their vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.
Pakistani singers are an absolute highlight on my channel, as they bring such a fresh and original approach to singing!

The word Jhoom actually literally means to "sway", so here "tu jhoom" means "you (should) sway". But the Urdu language is very contextual. So In the context of this song, tu jhoom is basically telling the listener to let go of the worries of life and "just sway" and just experience lifes beauty in all its forms, happiness, sorrow, pain, grief, joy, as they all contains their specific beauty, as nothing is in our hands anyway, and what is destined for us will reach us regardless, for better and worse. It's an extremely uplifting song :)

You introduced me to the Nescafé Basement, and that rabbit holed into the Coke Studio. I’ve come to rely on this song and a few other world music bangers as my mood changers. When the day is just a bit shit, these have not failed to course correct. Neither has the fairy voice mother. So talented and absolutely goofy.

Thank you Lolli for discovering for me, and for discovering for many other followers of yours, new types of music. KZread provides us with a fantastic tool to do so, but that itself often makes it impossible for us to open up to new influences, we usually rotate on the same axes. I've seen a lot of reaction/analysis videos and they usually focus on a very small group of artists, especially those from the USA and some very specific artists from other countries. It's refreshing to see something new, and even if it's something known like the last Pentatonix video, coming from you, there are always new details to take into account. Thank you very much for this new video and I would love to see your analysis of a Peruvian artist that I already recommended Yma Sumac (50's), or of some Spanish artists like Diana Navarro (current) or Camarón de la Isla (80's), considered by many as the maximum exponent of flamenco. A big hug and have a very good new year.

"Tu Jhoom" has two meanings. One which is translated in the subs but that is more deeper and philosophical meaning. A simple and literal meaning of "Tu Jhoom" is what you were doing all the while you were listening the song. Sway from left to right, be in the moment, focus on what was happening now and what did it mean. Forgetting the past and not worrying about the future and enjoying the moment because only thing matters is happiness. That is truly "Tu Jhoom".

You know how Dimash is often described as objectively the greatest vocalist in the world essentially based on the mind-boggling technical aspects of his vocals. There is really no sane person that could listen to him and not recognize that one is observing a 1/billion’s phenomenon. The Fairy Voice Mother is at Dimash levels of skill at breaking down vocals and explaining them to the average wanker watching KZread. I experience the same level of awe watching her duplicate and illustrate the vocal techniques in real-time as she analyses it as I do watching Dimash perform a new song.

Some recommendations from coke studio for you are “rung” by amjad sabri and rahat fateh ali khan, aj jaane ki zid na karo by farida khanum who at the age of recording was 82 years old and is now 93! there are also multiple live recordings of her singing it in her youth so it would be interesting to see comparisons. She’s also a legendary veteran singer of Pakistan who was dubbed the ‘malika e ghazal’ meaning queen of ghazals (form of poetry)

There was a concert by the Talamanam Sound Clash many years ago now in San Francisco. I heard a recording of it and primarily remember the song Mengadenga. There was an eastern singer named, I think, Ustad Sultan Khan, and there was a similar tonal quality to his voice as these women. He also played a really complex stringed instrument which sometimes sounded like an extension of his voice. That, and the tabla in this song reminded me of the same performance where Zakir Husain freaking killed it on the tabla.

Also you should do a analysis on "Tenacious D - The ballad of Hollywood Jack and the rage kage" It came out fairly recently and Jack black did a seriously amazing job singing it, and as he is quite unique in the way that he sings so I definitely think it would be worth doing it in a video! With your guidance, I was able to hear and appreciate a little of the nuance being expressed. The sheer joy and bliss upon your face and your unbridled energy when you are actively listening is a pleasure to behold. You get lost in the music totally and we can all see that. The musical snippet interludes, where you repeated phrases being sung, underline why you are the number 1⃣ vocal coach on KZread. Your knowledgeable and highly detailed breakdown of what we are all listening to is our unpaid tuition of a very high quality. This was a great way to end the year, Lolli, and I look forward to all of your reactions in the coming year. Happy New Year. 🥂🍾🥳😍😘

Dear "Fairy Voice Mother", you are right in your opinion and thank you for tutoring us with your variations. However, When she[Naseebo Lal] contracts her vocal chords, it's called singing with passion; you can resonate with it till Abida Parveen brings it down towards relaxation. Thank you!

Incredible discovery! Thank you so much for showing us this piece and analyzing it, I learnt some new things and that is always a joy! I wanted to make a reaction recommendation, if you're ok with that. Since you have already reacted to female metal vocalists in the past (such as Nightwish, Jinjer or Unleash the Archers), I'd love if you could blind react to Arch Enemy's Handshake With Hell, their vocalist Alissa White-Gluz is one of a kind and a real stage beast. She really delivers an unorthodox performance there and I think it would make for a very interesting reaction + analysis video :) Anyway, keep up the good work. Oh, and Happy New Year!

OMG what a great analysis. Never heard analysis in this depth before. Thanks for teaching us and helping us appreciate these masterpieces even more. Please do a reaction video on Pasoori. That was the most popular Coke Studio Pakistan season 14 song.
