lol agreed😆 I am from Morocco and live in the US.. out of all the music in the world, I choose to hear African music the most without exaggeration! I actually think many Of their talented people are underated and should be promoted in the US and everywhere else in the world because between the talent of video production and the voices I get blown away🥰I listen to her and many other ones every day especially at the gym😍

Tems has been around for years. She’s actually been making it big in the United States for the last 2 or 3 years now. Higher was a big song, the version that she did with Drake wasn’t even bigger song, she also had another one called “essence“. She wrote the Rihanna song “lift me up“ that was nominated for an Oscar. I’m sure you heard that one.

Jamaican ancestors are African so it would make sense that her accent and pronunciation of words can easily translate into reggae.

African American ancestors are African too, as well as many other countries. So that's not valid. Because I don't credit rap to Africa. It's like saying country music is from Europe because white peoples ancestors are from Europe. Geographically, we're on the same side of the globe, so how does that translate as far as influence because all the slaves were stripped of their culture. Slaves were taken from west Africa and distributed around the world, so it's a universal thing.🌎

Hello, I have a request. Could you please show me how to sing "I'm Here" from The Color Purple, Cynthia Erivo's version? Additionally, for the high notes or belts, could you provide a moderate version of the high note or belt? I am able to project my voice, hold my breath for a while, and belt on some songs, but there is something about the high notes in this song that is challenging for me. I am not sure if she is mixing or doing something else. Thank you.

It does hint that she may have been influenced by Reggae growing up in some capacity. She still has her own unique sound. Outside of Tems, Reggae and African music are completely different. Slaves were stripped of their culture everywhere and came up with their own sounds and cultivated new culture. Same for Jazz, Rap, Soul music, Soca, dancehall, calypso and other music.

Jamaican here. 🇯🇲 I agree. However, I do disagree with a lot of African comments. All the African slaves were taken from west Africa. Including African Americans and Other Caribbean Islands, Barbados, Trinidad etc. We all cultivated our own music and that is not credited to Africa. For Jamaica, before reggae we had what was called 'Ska', which was a culmination of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues. Geographically we're not close enough to have been influenced and slaves were brought to Jamaica in the 16th century and were not allowed to practice native african music, so that was not passed down by the time reggae was created in the 19th century. Our music began deriving from steelpan drums in the 1880's after the abolition of slavery in 1834 to what you see now. Reggae or dancehall is not credited to Africa, no more than Trinidad creating Soca and Calypso which is big in carnival , or Rap in the USA.
