I think the “dadada” is quite clever as it gives non-Dutch speakers something to sing along to. Will make people remember it in an international song contest.

Yes very true... I also feel the emotion in this part of the song. Da da da, there is a sense of nostalgia in it, like remembering the cadence of a song connected with a memory but not recalling the words to the song, and getting lost in the moment of remembering and longing.

Do not disagree with you many times but this time I do. It's a perfectly crafted song. Non Dutch people cannot sing along to the song but they CAN sing along to that "da da da" part and having watched about 40 reaction videos about this song, they WILL sing along!! Also, you said they "did something" with her voice, they just put a live version on KZread and her voice holds up to the studio version. Maybe listen to that one.

I think the "dadada' and "oehoeahaa"s are smart and immediately sticks into my head without getting old. I am absolutely in love with it. She was 17 years old when she signed with the Dutch hip-hop label Noah's Ark in January 2018.[2] Her EPs Antipsychotics (2017) and Lithium (2018) are named after drugs that are sometimes prescribed for psychological complaints. S10 is praised for her bold and honest lyrics about her personal psychological problems: she herself was admitted to a clinic in the past for depression and psychosis.[3] she sings from a real place and hope that others in dark times can be helped by her music

In the clip she gets confronted what happened, she got into an argument with her boyfriend, he drives off alone and dies. Her tattoo lights up and he appears as a ghost and she still feels deeply connected to him, after seeing his motorbike at the garage at the `braketest` sign she walks off and cries her eyes out and his presence inside her fades. (The light on her cheek) The Lyrics Translation: Do you know the feeling that your dream won't come true? are you ever scared it will always stay the same? Because it's raining every day and I can't see anything You and me together, right? it would always be that way Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da Oeh-Ahh Here in the depth, I keep hearing your name Oeh-Ahh Oh my love what should i do? I'm in the depth and I don't want to let you go I'm hiding under the table and I hope you'll find me I'm already waiting the whole evening, Oh I look like a child I'm biting my teeth again and I know you're doing the same But God what else should I do, when is it enough? Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da Oeh-Ahh Here in the depth, I keep hearing your name Oeh-Ahh Oh my love what should i do? I'm in the depth and I don't want to let you go No, no, no, no Not letting you go Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da Oeh-Ahh Here in the depth, I keep hearing your name Oeh-Ahh Oh my love what should i do? She was so deep in a depression that she couldn’t get out of it and the part that says: “ik zit diep en ik wil jou niet laten gaan”, she talks about herself, she doesn’t want to let herself go in this depression. She also said that this song is love letter to her emoties back then. Thank you Stien for this amazing song! I’m still listening to it till this day I’m proud that we came with this entry 🇳🇱❤️

For me personally this is one of the strongest songs we have so far, but I think the whole strength of the song is only reached, if you know the backstory of S10 and this song: She has multiple psychological issues, especially schizophrenia, which have affected her whole life. This song is dedicated to all the sad and lonly moments you have in your live, which is something she really knows what she is talking about. What I've seen so far, the "da, da, da" part is actually something people have liked the most about this song, because they have something to sing along to, even though they don't speak durch. So I think your doubts aren't so much of concern.

The dadada for me feels like the " i don't wanna hear". Adds to the vibes and lyrics. But again, just a feeling. Crying out emotions don't go in words, that's all!

The Netherlands hasn’t done really good at eurovision with songs in Dutch, I think the DaDaDaDaDa en the Ohoo’s are actually great because it gives the opportunity for all countries to Remeber or even sing along to it. I am very exited to hear a crowd sing along to it actually

It usually happens that in Eurovision contestants will fill in some parts of the songs like we see in the "dadada" parts of this song, but in this case, I think S10 did the best job in filling this gaps and made it sound so good, so romantic, so nostalgic. Whereas if you listen to other songs of this year's Eurovision that use the same resource you'll see a big difference. Personally I was pretty annoyed by this year's songs that did fill in the gaps with this resource as I felt that they didn't make any sense, and some even ruined the whole song for me since it felt like it was incomplete and took a lot of meaning from the song. But this song, I felt in love with it the first time I heard it (and I didn't have a clue of what she was saying but still I felt like I could relate to it so bad!) Great job S10 ❤️ this song will remain in my memory for a really long time!

It's funny, I have a completely differing opinion. This is the first song this year, that gave me winner vibes and the more I listen to and watch it, the more emotional I seem to get over this song. The "onomatopoeia"-bits seem to bother some people, but me not at all. The "oooo-oooo-aaaa-aaa" could be an expression of whailing/crying about the feelings presented in her text, the "da-da-da" is probably not about not wanting to know what else to write, but a kind of suspense. The moment of calm and trying to hold your feelings inside of yourself, when you realise the world goes down for you, but you don't want to cry, yet at some point in time you might just break: Then the "ooo-ooo-aaa-aaa" sets in. It's a wonderful song and, looking at the songs that are currently out, I'll be very bothered, if it doesn't make the Top 3 tbh.

If i am not wrong....the song is about depression, loss of innocence and the lost of ability in feeling love. The light symbolizes the hope and attraction other people felt in her...the man in the video was trying to help her but she refused to be helped because she doesn't believe she deserves to be helped. I do think the hollow feel of her voices matches the vibe of the song...it's meant to be seen from a depressed person's perspective and how they felt about themselves and the world during that time.

I am fairly sure that man in the video was her boyfriend who committed suicide through crashing his motorcycle on the road. He's hugging 'death' at some point in the video, driving away with him, rather than staying with her.

My two cents on the "da da da" is that I'm not really bothered by it. I'm sure she could've come up with words, but if she believed there was lyrically nothing left to add, there's really nothing left to say. In no way comparing the two, but I have to think of Otis Redding's whistling, which also seems like a loss for words, but still adding emotion to a song. Like a sort of child-like response to overwhelming sadness.

The "dudududududu" is something that is in almost al her songs so its kind of her style and with the "dudududu" is kind a piece of emotion that needs to come out. ( im dutch so im trying to explain it )

I personally don't particularly like the translation, it's very choppy since you miss some nuance. For example "acting childish" it's rather "it's almost like I'm a darn child", meaning she dislikes how she beats herself up over how she feels due to his actions Anyways good video, thanks for reacting!

what i imagine with the "dadada" is. When you are struggeling with depression, you often tend to close out your surroundings. Like when she sits at the table with what i presume is family or something, but are not spritually present at all. She also mentions in the lyrics that she acts like a child. When emotions run high we tend to act out of our norm and are not willing to listen to reason. The "DADADA" can therefor be seen as a protection from outside interference.

It is so terribly bad that ESC was actually downplaying this clip! ;=) For last few days now. It has been noticed. LOL Probably the network will now push the views of the other songs. I am not naïve anymore. For the record, very few people, national and international, miss the emotional content and storytelling quality in the lyrics: through melody, instrumentation and (!) vocals. A few days ago she did it live in a Dutch TV show. With honours. Not perfect. But am I missing the point that with singing it is not always the best to sing the perfect notes, as long as you sing the right notes? I think it very clever by the way to do a song in Dutch and use the dadada's en de oeh's as functional and neccessary hooks for an international audience. And also thóse parts are arranged well. I know you are a vocal coach. And I have watched several of your reviews and liked them and understood most of the time were you were coming from. In this case, you have lost me. And you did something that I did not see you do very often: breaking up the song in oh so many parts that the storytelling quality in the music is completely lost. Gone. Maybe that is for the great part the reason for your assessment of the song? I think you maby did yourself a disfavor. By robbing yourself of some emotional journey. How subtle it might be. Greetings, wish you welll.

Don't understand that everyone has such a problem understanding the video. Simply explained. "She is with a guy on a motor, her boyfriend, and it is a flashback. Later the guy is alone on the motor, and a bit later again you see his ghost walking by, so that means he is killed in an accident with his motor. The rest you can fill in yourself hopefully.

Oehoe, aha, refers to breathing technique, I've read. The song is not about a boy or a relationship but her own past with anxiety. The butterfly refers to spiritual rebirthing. The lit spots are painspots that are gone. She got over the anxiety. Oehoe, aha is following that theory not because of not knowing words but well chosen.
