    The most surprising thing about this presentation was that Taka was somewhat sick, he had a throat problem but he never went out of tune or made any vocal mistakes, he was stable and that made him admire him more.

    Any chance we could have you fix the thumbnail to read "OK" instead of "Okay?" 😉 Taka is such an amazing vocalist. Would you believe he was actually under the weather here? His voice is usually more clean and smooth than this. However, I think the raspiness in his voice here adds to the raw emotion and makes it sound even better.

    Taka's parents are both well-known professional singers in Japan, so part of his incredible voice is probably genetic. (Also, one of his brothers has his own rock band. So there again are the musical roots - they run through the whole family.)

    Saw them perform live 2 times. They're my all time favorite since I was in college. Their songs varied from inlove to heartbroken to inspirational to who the hell are you type of song. They can hype the crowd and even if you're watching through screen, their energy transcends through it. Their talents and humility made their stronger as a band that's why until now they keep on doing world tour. Their songs will accompany you when you're at your lowest and even at the highest point of your life.

    I know many will likely also recommend it but, check out the 18 fes version. They brought in 1000 18 year old fans to sing along to a private performance, it's basically like having a 1000 person choir, it's honestly one of the most incredible things I've ever seen.

  • @tineryn
    @tineryn Жыл бұрын

    Ahh, excited to see you react to this! Regarding the audience participation: while the audience is certainly singing along, the bulk of that sound is pre-recorded. This song was originally written and performed for an event called 18fes, which was in honor of 18 year olds earning the right to vote in Japan. That performance included a youth choir of 18 year olds and was televised. This is actually why they could confidently expect the audience to sing during the break--because it was already an expected part of the song, due to the 18fes version. They've finally posted it on their channel so it's worth a watch! But for this album, they sampled some of those choir vocals into a new version of the song. Some future One OK Rock recs: in addition to the We Are 18fes version (which is phenomenal), I HIGHLY recommend the live version of Take What You Want. You won't find a better video to evaluate Taka's vocals than that.

    OOR is a really amazing band. As for this song, the 18 Fes version is one of my favorites, though Taka and the rest of the band rock the song every single time. Also, not sure if anyone else commented, but it's interesting to note Taka's personal history. He was born to a family of 5 (he is the eldest with 2 younger brothers) in the public eye (his parents are very popular enka singers), and he and his little brother (Hiro, who is the vocalist of the band My First Story) were actually both set to be idols in one of Japan's most well known company - Johnny's Entertainment. They both dropped that obviously and they've both come so far. They both went through rough patches when their parents divorced, and it hit them both hard - Taka changed his last name for quite some time, dropped out of school, etc. Meanwhile Hiro expressed the pain of the divorce at a really big rock festival (Budokan in 2015 I believe) and it was so bad that they stopped the performance. And despite all this, both have made big names for themselves and have come so far.

    That's Taka for you, he's like beyond singers in his skill :D. And he was sick during this live concert supposedly too.

    FYI he was originally trained by Johnny's Entertainment, who has daily dancing lessons and a number of them have shocking acrobatic skills. JE has produced two bands that sing while roller skating and two that are acrobats.

    I love your reaction! One ok rock is an amazing band!!!!!! I had the chance to see the band in concert 3 times (in France, in 2013, 2015 & 2017) and each time it's a wonderful moment! The singer of the group (Taka) has a little brother (Hiro) who is also a singer in a rock group (My first story) and he also has an incredible voice. If you like rock bands, I can suggest a few others: - Ft Island (Korean boy rock band) - Xdinary Hereos (Korean boy rock band) - Rolling Quartz (Korean girl rock band) - Scandal (Japanese girl rock band) .... Ps : I'm sorry for my English which isn't great :'( I'm a french girl :3

    I love OOR. They are just awesome. My Spotify was like “you’ve listened to Karine Polwart, Dougie Maclean, Runrig, got some Clannad, Of Monsters And Men and anime themes and linkin park on your playlist too. So we’re gonna introduce you to J-Rock with one ok rock…” that was like 2014-ish 😂
