It's great to see Paul Di Anno getting his due. He's often overlooked because of how legendary Bruce ended up being in the band, but those first couple of Iron Maiden records are excellent.

True, and btw, as much as I like Bruce, his rendition of this sing on the live album "A real dead one" is a slaughter, especially when you compare to the version on Killers's live album (south America live assaut I think)that was recorded the same year, on which Paul seems to be at his pinacle.
The first two Maiden albums have such a cool atmosphere. Paul DiAnno was so cool aswell I wish he did more albums with Maiden.
From what I read, Paul wrote this song following his grandfather's death in 1980. He died from the effects of diabetes. His grandfather's favorite catch phrase was: "You never know what is going to happen, remember tomorrow, it might be a better day." I admit I didn't know that Iron Maiden had a different lead singer before Bruce until this reaction. Great reaction as always Beth.

Totally agree, the two first albums were the best. What an amazing voice.
This was the version of Iron Maiden I encountered first, back in the early 80s. I fell in love with the first two albums, but especially Killers. When Di Anno was replaced, the band changed its character. Less punky, less rock n roll, more power metal. I still really liked them (and still do), but those first two albums have a feel I will always return to, and a lot of that has to do with Paul’s vocals.

I saw them with Dennis Stratton, before Adrian Smith joined.
I first saw Iron Maiden (with Di'Anno) in 1980 at the Marquee in London. I was deaf for a couple of days afterwards. They were brilliant and Di'Anno's singing on those first two albums is great. Although Bruce Dickinson is often seen as the final piece in the puzzle the band needed to make them the phenomenon they became, I actually prefer Di'Anno's individuality and punky image - far from the classic metal belt/scream of Dickinson. The first 3 Maiden/Dickinson Albums are great, but Di'Anno, if he avoided the problems, may have stayed on and Maiden would have still been excellent, although they'd have to hire their own pilot.

thx for this one, I personally am a big fan of early Maiden with Paul
Their first two albums with Paul have always been my favorites. Strange World is my favorite Maiden song.
The first two albums had a noticeable punk feel due to Di'Anno and Clive Burr.
Man I love that you did a video about Paul DiAnno. -Neal
Probably worth a mention, this performance was mimed to the original recording on the debut album.
Man I am always impressed how Dave Murray could burn out such a solo and still seem to be total modest on it. It is just amazing. And look at Clive Burr at the drums. R.I.P Clive. But he is drumming the hell out of his set at the solo. Man... If I only have been at this show. I would give my life for it.
Gotta say, you really had me questioning my memory of this song with the "no solo" comment. I've been listening to Maiden since those early Di Anno days and always remembered a solo section. I was thinking that it was going to be one of those edited for time type videos, but the solo section was there. Unfortunately, the whole section that comes after the solo, the last 2 minutes of the song, ARE missing.
Great singer it was! Will be nice if you will say something about how he sing song like Killers or Purgatory for example... I went in to maiden in 1988 ,with Seven Son but since I discover Paul on voice (and Clive Burr) on drum, I totally fall in love with how that band was in the first 3 albums... Yes Paul probably wasn't a professional and trusted person but, wow what a singer and fantastic clean screaming..!!🤘
Too bad the song got cut short. Great to hear her analysis on Di'Anno, though. I loved his vocals on the first two albums and Killers is still my favorite Maiden album.
The first 2 Maiden albums with DiAnno are my favorites. A completely different vibe from the Dickinson stuff.

Baby I’m gonna tell you my experience. I started listening the old Iron Maiden 83-84, but………when the number of the beast came…………… was everything. You can feel the music style changed when Dickinson started. Now after 40 years I can try to understand what happens in the entertaining world, sometimes you have luck or bad luck when you’re changing a singer or musicians in the bands. The same happened in Metallica with David Mustaine ❤Now I can see what happened. Was the time of supremacy or Judas Priest or them. Is my point of view and I’m not a musician ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊 💋💋🤭🤭🤭
I am watching like all the videos from the last 2 years of you in a row, thank you for incorporating Paul DiAnno, I had the honor of meeting him 3 times and he is still a legend for me. Big Maiden Fan here and I can say that the first 2 Albums, I can't imagine them without Paul Di Anno.

So wonderful voice in one of his best Maiden song !!!
Glad to see Paul D’anno here. Opeth does a great cover of this.
Really enjoy Di'Anno. Good breakdown. Strong echoes of '70's Rob Halford on Priest's Sad Wings of Destiny album.
Everyone loves Bruce and rightly so as he's a great singer and frontman but for me Paul has always been my favourite Maiden singer. Not too bad for someone originally from a punk band! I'm so glad you got to hear Paul sing, unfortunately you only got to hear half the song in this video. Listen to the whole of the first album if you get a chance, you'll love it.
absolut fantastic voice ... love this Remember Tomorrow .... what a shouter
I have to bring up the fact that Beth R. normally reacts to LIVE versions, however this is the studio version of the song (If you listen carefully) and we all know that studio versions tend to be touched up and perfected while recorded, still l really like Paul voice, don't get me wrong, l just don't believe Beth realized she was reaction to a version recorded in a studio.
I saw Paul in wolverhampton at the KK Steel Mill, his first performance in the uk in 10 years,. I was absolutely stoked,. I'd seen Maiden on the Tuesday in Birmingham, then Paul on the Thursday,.. 🤘🏻😎
this is my favorite Di'anno era song. I have been trying to get someone to listen to it. thank you Beth
As probably someone already said, this is a playback video, the song you hear is the studio version. The final part of the video was also cut off, where Di'Anno hits the highest notes!
Thank you so much for featuring Paul! My friends and I grew up with Maiden and as much as we love and admire Bruce , we lean toward Paul as our favorite of the two. The first couple Maiden records are the coolest in many ways! 🙂
Thanks for giving Paul his deserved respect. I have always loved these first couple of albums! This video is definitely glitchy...go listen to the studio albums with Paul
Your jumper looks so comfortable ! Also Rest in Peace to Clive Burr. ❤
OMG Beth, you're back to your Iron Maiden roots!!! Paul was a great singer!!! (is!!!!) I like to compare him with Rob Halford... (in his young years) and even with David Byron (Uriah Heep). Thanks a lot, and love u! btw. His vibrato is just so typical of the early '70s 💪💪💪 Have you ever thought about reacting to the song "July Morning" of Uriah Heep? One of my favorites from those years, the second song I know, the first was "Gypsy Queen"
classic song! classic era! he had the chops for sure!
My favorite raw sounding maiden albums
Di'annos voice is perfect for the post punk, new wave era... Dickinson came in at the time he was needed...🤘
Nadie tuvo la voz tan clara y cristalina como Paul, es un placer a los oidos.
OMG...it's was an unexpected React about this song... i was 15 YO in this time, and Sir Steve Harris was my master when i started to play bass Guitar, ans since, i never change my mind. So... i can just say that an original sound studio song from album mixed with a live ( i mean not a really live in fact), not a joke but just the true about that... Thx sooooooo much to react about Paul & one of the first amazing Maiden's song. Salute from France Beth & keep Safe.
Killers is my all time favourite Iron Maiden album. Love Paul's voice.
Like others have said it's really great to hear someone review Maiden with Paul up front. My favourite album is the one with this track on and I recall playing the 12" LP daily before heading off for school in the early 80's. Next track should be Phantom of the Opera. For what it's worth I think this is them miming to the studio version.
Beth (int the intro): “This song doesn’t have a guitar solo” Me (a long time Maiden fan): “I’m sure it does” 5:11 Dave Murray: 🎸 5:47 Adrian Smith: 🎸 Oh Beth 😂 This is the studio version dubbed over a live performance, and to my knowledge there is no version where they don’t play the solos. Now you need to do Blaze Bayley Era Maiden… mainly just for an example of how a great singer isn’t necessarily the right choice for a band… and then check out Blaze’s solo work to see how good he sounds when he has the right music to sing to. That’s one aspect of singing that I’d like to see analysed - how the music and the vocals work together, and how the tone of a voice, even if it’s in key, may not sound quite right?
I love Bruce and Iron Maiden to death, but Iron Maiden's first album is my favorite out of all of their albums. I love how raw the sound is, and Paul's vocals are perfect for the music.

In addition to all you just said, EVERY song on the first album is a classic, not a filler/throwaway song in the bunch
This was the song that got me into Maiden.
This version of the song is the studio version. This was aired on Top of the Pops which is known for it's lip synching. Paul Diano was likely emphasizing the vibrato to appear to be singing.
Stay strong Paul! Hope your body and soul recovers ❤
Another astute critique, Beth! This incarnation of Iron Maiden was special, and comparing the singer Paul to Bruce is an apples and oranges situation. Paul was the right front man at the right time. It's important to remember that they were only in their early 20's when this was recorded, and it's easy to fall prey to chemical abuse when you're just a kid and others make it readily accessible. Nevertheless, they made amazing music. Dave Murray, aka The Blonde Bomber, is one of those top tier Axmen who slays like a pro, and doesn't make a fuss about it. Heavy Metal Forever!🎸🤘💥

good lord. just do another version. di-anno is a piece of history.
paul dianno earned my respect many many years ago. he is a legend and nothing will take that away from the 1st frontman of iron maiden. he was the singer for a generation very early 80s
thank you for relizing paul dianno was awsome
They had one more vocalist in 90's when Bruce left band - Blaze Bayley. )
One of my favorite Maiden songs.
Love this. Going to see him tonight at the patriots bar South wales……
I saw Di'Anno live at a bar. Eventhough he doesn't quite sound the same, it was still pretty good. I remember that there was no actual stage so I was eye to eye with him. He only played a few shows that year in the states and I heard the night before he canceled the show in San Antonio cuz he had laryngitis. He was using a cane to walk around before the show. He still sounds good on the album and the title song called The Living Dead.
Yeah, this video did glitch a bit at times. This is off the debut Iron Maiden album. There's a lot of great stuff off the first 2 Iron Maiden albums. There's a song about the Phantom of the Opera called Phantom of the Opera (not a cover from the musical) which is great and I would definitely check out Strange World. The from the second album, I would check out Prodigal Son and the title track of the album, Killers.
The first two Maiden albums are still my favorites... I actually got to see them with Di Anno on the Killers tour in 1981, opening for Judas Priest. Excellent performances all around.
I really didn't get into Maiden until '84. Missed the first 2 albums until a few years ago. Killers is now my favorite album.
There was a song off of that first Iron Maiden album that didn't have a guitar solo, but this wasn't it. It was the title track, Iron Maiden. lol. Paul Di'Anno was an amazing vocalist though, he could hit those high notes better than Bruce could, but Bruce was more operatic and he had that stage presence that frontmen only dream of having. Both very different styles. It's like comparing Nightwish vocalists, each one is different.
Strange World is one of the most beautiful song in the genre, Prodigal Son as well. I love Bruce, but my fav album is Killers. To me, Kill'em All and Killers are the best albuns of the history, there are many spectacular albuns, but those two have a special place in my soul.
If I closed my eyes for the first couple minutes I'd swear it was a young Rob Halford. Even the music sounds like Judas Priest from the Rocka Rolla or Sad Wings of Destiny era
maiden ruled! nice video!
Thanks for the upload and reaction. I prefer Iron Maiden with Paul on vocals then Bruce.
I prefer Bruce but Maiden's first two albums are marvelous, especially Killers. Having said that... Remember Tomorrow is one of my faves with Paul, this song is incredible!
If you’ve done Paul then you really should close out the trio and do Blaze Bayley. I’d suggest The Edge of Darkness from the Night that Will Not Die. It was recorded after his time in maiden but it shows how good he really is.

I’ve just commented similar, she needs to do Blaze now, but she should do Blaze in Maiden and then do something from his solo work. I feel like he sang great in Maiden, but his voice just didn’t sound right together with their music. He sang well, he sang in key, yet apart from maybe 3 or 4 songs, it just didn’t really click.
No solo me gustó sino me encantó maravilloso bien Beth 👏👏🍀🍀
Thanks Beth for this very interesting video. That's nice to hear somebody praising Paul's talent ( I am a massive fan myself). The only point I disagree with is about Paul's vocal skills declining over the years. Over his post-Maiden career (until the mid 2000s) ,when he sang for Battlezone, Killers, or even solo (the 1999 album, Nomad, is excellent), to me, he has demonstrated incredible vocal talents (even though he may have been inconsistent indeed, especially on some live performances). I don;t know if you have had a chance to listen to the version of Remember Tomorrow he recorded in 1992 with his band Killers for their first album Murder One, but his voice and his vocal technique are at their peak imo. Here is the link to the track, in case you'd like to compare. And btw, that would be amazing if you did a video in which you compare both versions and the evolution of Paul's voice between both :) kzread.info/dash/bejne/pIl7mquCp6u3YrQ.html
What a great song! Pity about the glitching and fading out before the last verse on this version but oh well. Seeing Paul sing this live was definitely a bucket list item. Actually I saw him tour with the other former Maiden singer Blaze Bayley who you should totally react to next. "Lord Of The Flies" would be a good choice.
Awesome thanks cheers

Paul is awesome and this is one of my favorite Maiden's song and sadly it's so underrated but I love it
This is a mime. The original backing track is playing in background including the vocals!!
Paul is a great vocalist, I think every Iron Maiden fan will acknowledge him as a great vocalist but Bruce not only also a great vocalist is more so a better performer that just makes every live show not only a audible blast but also visually because Bruce is physically energetic and acts with the lyrics.
Bruce is the objectively superior vocalist, but DiAnno will always be the voice of Iron Maiden to me. Just pure nostalgia, but it's awesome.
@Nissardpertugiu

Superior i don't know. Because Paul range can be melodic as gruffy and agressive and kind of Priestesque with high notes to Hardcore growly vocals. Bluesy.. Bruce can't do that strech.
@Arkryal
10 ай бұрын
@@Nissardpertugiu That's a fair assessment. But vocal skill is about more than just range. Breath control is a lot of it, and I've seen Bruce to a 26 second slide up over an octave at a full belt while doing a pull-up on stage, that's basically super-human, lol. But it's definitely not an apples to apples comparison. And with both having long careers, it's hard to make any real objective comparisons as each of them worked with Maiden at different ages and experience levels. You have to dig into their solo stuff to make that call. But Bruce can do Bluesy. While it was an obvious joke, "Ballad of Mutt" was epic, lol.

@@Arkryal Well Paul has more darkness and broken feel to it. Bruce was better in Samson. He kind of re incarnated that in 1990-1993. But he's more on theatrics and jumping than beign in the song, to me. Maybe it lacks of bottom to be really efficient on that stuff. Im not a fan of the all clean operating he took with maiden, when some stuff needed more agression. To me they have different abilities. Its not " Superior " stuff.
I know you did a BAND-MAID song about a year ago, but I think you should revisit them and do their song 'About Us'. The vocal in it are amazing!
