The pointing was related to his in ears, I'm pretty sure he had an issue with his levels throughout the entire show - he kept fiddling with them and he seemed pretty frustrated at points (during watermelon sugar for example). Makes his performance even more impressive. It was probably related to the livestream somehow because the levels were off when it was live too but they fixed it in the uploaded version later

I'm sort of surprised no one has mentioned / speculated that he appeared to be sick and/or rundown while in NYC over the course of and leadup to the album launch. Beginning with something mild and almost undiscernible on Stern and worsening at this show. I can't remember now how many or which songs they performed on Stern--I think three. One or two of them were alright, while I remember thinking the other might have sat in a certain range that could potentially be less comfortable for him under the circumstances and it wasn't as easy to hide vocally. He seemed to be working hard to compensate for low energy on Today and it was worrisome to watch the extra coughing and throat clearing--only because I could empathize with how much it sucks to perform while sick or fatigued. Vocally, he seemed to be tired. Then the various short morning show interviews on Friday were telling, with even more throat clearing and I recognized that specific look of swallowing when it's either painful or uncomfortable. In the interviews he also sounded a little hoarse and appeared drained. All that to say, finally, when this show came around, it's apparent by the reaching and lack of strength in his voice, changes in tonality, sustaining a lower note in a phrase that would normally move up into falsetto, some intonation issues, (which are pretty much unheard of for him) and by the way he pulled the mic away to get through what might be difficult moments under the circumstances. Some songs seem to be in an easier style and/or register and/or tempo to pull off while unwell. Others less so. This song is actually a pretty good example of all of that. I guess all I can end with is that he's super freaking professional and I'm impressed he got through it with so much enthusiasm, giving everyone an awesome show. I think maybe by the time he got to the BBC performances he was able to rest a little bit as those were much better and an apparent return to status quo. Having not seen more than little crowd segments of the London show, I don't know how it compared, but I wish that it had been professionally recorded for the public--I bet it was really great.

@Nerdish You're totally right--he danced around and interacted and it looks like he put on a really fun show. (Jealous that you were there!) I'm just speaking to his vocal performance based on the collective of various NYC concerts and interviews over the course of Wednesday through Friday. I just noticed something was up on the live Today performances Thursday morning and heard it progress in his radio interviews. While watching the official video of the one night only show, it just seemed apparent to me that his voice wasn't at its usual best and he was being careful with it. He is so professional, I can't imagine he wouldn't work really hard to move through how he was feeling and just make it a fun experience for everyone. Not to say that nerves couldn't have contributed on Friday night, but the only reason why I wouldn't chalk it up to just that is because I sort of watched (and heard) it unfold in real time and was anxious for him even before that show.
