He's also mentioned in recent interviews that he's bothered by not being able to sing to his full potential. In other words the mask he's wearing is limiting he's ability to sing, and he has, developed his voice in an amazing way. He want to be able to show how good of a singer he has become.

Tobias Forge increasingly challenges himself vocally with each new album. He does get a bit shaky at times, but has greatly improved over time in his efforts. He has said that he never intended to be a singer - he was supposed to be a guitarist. Even though he is a great guitarist, the situation of Ghost pushed him into the lyrical lead role. He may not be the best vocalist in rock/metal music, but he's highly entertaining and one heck of writer.

In the past before he was using backup singers, as now, it was a lot of tapes. But now they've altered the masks so the ghouls can sing. All 4 of the ghouls (Multi-Ghoul (Justin), Black guitar (Chris) and the two keyboardists, Leena and Erna?) who sing are amazing talents and the masks don't affect them at all. Very cool to see someone analyze Tobias' voice and thanks for doing your homework on Ghost's background. The mask is a full over the head silicone mask that goes past his neck. Kinda like a big rubber glove you stretch over your head. You can slip it on and off in a second instead of using time consuming prosthetics glued to your face. Silicone gives a lot more realistic look than a latex halloween mask. Only his eyes and ears (for monitors) are exposed. In high school he got his nose broken on the subway and it gives him a lot of problems. He has a deviated septum and apparently carries nasal spray with him at all times. He says he could have it operated on, but I think at this point in his career it gives his voice a unique quality and maybe surgery could go wrong and ruin his voice. Why gamble it. Other songs to check out would be He Is, a new song Mary On A Cross (some of his best vocals) and the hardDrive Radio acoustic recordings of If You Have Ghosts and Jigolo Har Megiddo. On the acoustic recordings he can be heard really well because it's just him singing. Thanks!

Tobias is Swedish and has a slight accent that occassionally comes out, he's also playing a character so his vocals may be changed a bit. I wonder if his mask muffles his vocals at all but I'm sure they are on top of that. When Tobias talks in character between songs he uses rolled "R's" & other accents not native to the Swedish language. Fun story, at the concert a drunk guy came up to my bf and asked if the lead singer is Mexican or something because he didn't see him close up, only in the mask & he thought it was his real face! 😂 One last thing you pointed out this song feels like a long sentence.. I ADORE Ghost! Have a Ghost tattoo on my chest and I’ve seen them live 8 times. I actually also met Tobias in 2014, like in private clothing. It was before a show and he was wearing just shorts and t-shirts and sneakers and I was dressed up as a nun with Papa II-makeup. I went up up to him and started talking and I actually started crying because I’m a VERY emotional person and I hugged him several times and also took his hand and kissed it and said “I love you”. Then we had some talk about how much they’ve helped me when I feel bad which is everyday and they are always there for me and that made him happy he said. Then he poked my forehead and said “You look so pretty” and I got an autograph and he promised to look at me a lot during the concert and oh he surely did. Love him. Gonna check out your channel more! This is the first I see, it was shared in a Ghost group on Facebook. You should react to the band Steam Powered Giraffe! They’re very interesting. And oh...Rammstein too. They’re the love of my life. But Steam Powered Giraffe would be so nice to see a reaction to! Maybe the song Automatonic Electronic Harmonics or Honeybee. They’re GREAT!

I will probably be one of the best shows you will ever see. Tobias finally has the band he has been working towards for years. It took 7 musicians plus himself to be able to faithfully recreate the recordings without resorting to running tracks (aside from the special effects and interludes). Both ghoulettes and the swiss army ghoul (guitarist in the back) have incredible voices as well. Mad Galicaa is the shorter ghoulette. About Tobias...he has said in multiple interviews that he never wanted to be a singer. He is a guitar player who started singing out of necessity.

My hubs and I saw Ghost in 2018 at this huge old theater in our town and it was one of my first real concerts. It was actually pretty insane. My husband is super into them, and I do enjoy them a lot myself, but I havent much cared for the whole act behind it, until we saw them. I'm still moreso into the music but yeah they're incredibly interesting as an act in this day and age I think. The concert was really amazing and I like his enthusiasm with the crowd, even if he does say gross shit sometimes lol. The musicians are INSANE, they wowed me the most. His vocals were pretty good.

Interesting to see a vocal coach examining Ghost! I think you did yourself a disservice by reacting to a live performance, though, because of the constrictions of the mask :) I recommend checking out the studio versions of their music for a better barometer into his voice and nuance. Tobias Forge will never be known as a legendary singer, but the man knows how to write great pop hooks.

I'm convinced that great part of his nasalaty comes from the latex mask pushing down on his bridge of the nose. Basically blocking a big part of resonation. And then he chose to utilize it and add some more 'nasality' to it deliberately as he discovered this comes with the mask anyway.

@Michal Towber Vocal Coaching He has talked about his voice in some interview in a swedish mag or something. He had his nose broken when he tried to protect a female friend in the subway frome some idiot in the subway, when he was younger. His nose is not fixed correctly since this and he has almost no air flow on one side. He said that this plays a huge role in his nasal vocal tone! He also said that he often treats himself with nasal sprays containing cortisone.

Greatly enjoy GHOST. Oldtime metalhead here.. got into metal back in the early to mid 80's. I enjoy 70's rock, some 60's stuff, and a vast majority of 80's and 90's metal. Am also into a few of the newer metal subgenres as well so I appreciate almost anything under the rock/metal umbrella. I am not sure where you plan on taking your reactions but I do believe you would enjoy the vocal stylings of one of the greats in the metal category.. Ronnie James Dio. He sang for bands like Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Dio, and Heaven & Hell. If you have the desire to check him out, I would suggest having a listen to the song 'Stargazer' by the band 'Rainbow.' Peace

One of the best things about the whole concept behind Ghost is that they've managed to create a pretty convincing history of themselves which stretches back to 1969, long before any of them were actually born in reality.

There's a live performance of "Ritual" from Music Feed Studios when he was Papa II that has a lot of close-ups of his mask without makeup. It seems to be a well-made but rather tight mask that only gives full range of motion to his mouth, which explains his tone when singing live. On the albums his voice is still somewhat nasally but much cleaner.

At least you're educated on the band and their timeline, I think you get it ;-) Tobia's voice is so unique. I don't think I've ever heard him off key. The mask is full face, but made to not block is mouth and jaw movement under the mask. Great review! But I do think you have the hots for Tobias LOL I would love to hear your review one of the new songs, or one of the older ones. I need to check your feed out.

This was a fantastic reaction! I was in vocal coaching for opera for a number of years, and in a lot of choirs (though I've never sung professionally), and it's really cool to see where our opinions and analyses sync up. If you ever want to react again, I recommend their performance of Cirice on the Colbert Report from around 2015. They a) won a grammy for it (and it has a lot of little details in the staging and acting with all the performers that you might appreciate--including Colbert's outfit as he introduces the song, complete with little vampire fangs!) and b) Tobias' vocal technique is in top form. The backup vocals are turned up louder than they are in the studio version, which complements the song really well, and there's an effortless flip to falsetto at the end that just makes it. It's also a great way to see how his technique differs as Papa Emeritus III vs Cardinal Copia, and the way he alters his tone for each character. Contrasted with this performance of Life Eternal, it's a little more emotional and the instrumental is heavier, but the little things (like the call-and-response guitar intro in the studio version, if you care to listen to it) elevate it a step above really any other performance of Cirice I've seen--and I've seen quite a few, haha! If you ever get a chance, I'd love to hear your opinions on it! kzread.info/dash/bejne/qIiMuY-tf5DMf9Y.html

A great thing about his voice in person is that it changes. If you notice, with each new papa, the voice changes too. I think it's intentionally done, seeing as how each character is supposed to be a different person. The same songs sound different across all of the papas and Cardinal. Also, if you listen to his other bands, (ex: Subvision, Repugnant, and even his single song called "House of affection" which I highly recommend reviewing if you want his voice by itself) His voice is different for all of them while still being obvious that it's Tobias
