Vocal Coach Reacts To Famous Singers' FULL Power Vocals When They're on FIRE! Ken Tamplin
You’re going to have some serious fires to put out after today’s reaction!
We’re going to look at performances of “Famous Singers Full Vocals when they’re on FIRE”!
I’ll admit there were some great vocal performances with this one but I do think it’s also important to not get lost in comparing one vocalist to another based on how high of a note they can hit for instance.
For me it’s important to keep the focus on a musician’s artistry and uniqueness and to enjoy what they bring to their craft.
With that said, we’ll be looking at some great artists today including Mariah, Christina Aguilera, Demi Lovato, Beyonce, and Miley Cyrus.
I hope you enjoy the performances and let me know what you
thought!

Christina’s performance of Beautiful was 100% live. She really knows when and how to pull back the microphone. Also, being a televised performance, they probably adjusted the volumes during the post-production. I know how to recognise when she lip syncs, that performance wasn’t the case.
@diegomarquez3673
4 жыл бұрын
Im with you, and no even when she pulls the mic far she stills can be heard, it’s just her voice is so big and loud ❤️
When Mariah sang "I don't wanna cry" she was in her prime. At that time her voice was spotless. Would like to know something more on the damages that can be caused by whistling...
@kentamplin
5 жыл бұрын
Andrea Done incorrectly it will result in loss of voice or nodules. Think of nodes as callouses only, unlike a runner, you really don't want callouses on something required to make a sound. Whistle isn't able to be done by everyone and you really need to learn how to do it properly or your head may explode. Kidding aside, done incorrectly you'll foul up your voice. If you're going to do it be sure to learn correctly. Did I mention you need to do it correctly?
@SilentAssassin01234
5 жыл бұрын
As Ken said, incorrectly will cause issues. Mariah Carey was only able to sing in whistle register because she had natural nodules since she was very young. Without them, she wouldn't be able to possibly sing whistles.
@Andrea-cp8ng

Ken, thank you for your reply. I totally agree on the whistle thing, but just wanted to point out that that was the undubbed version of I don't wanna cry. Think it was in Tokyo (1996). Even if sometimes she uses pre recorded vocals, that concert was completely live. Don't you think that pulling the mic far away may be a stylistic choice? Once in a reaction you said "good mic use", I think it was Hero. Anyway, thank you very much, would love to see more reactions from you of her performances.
@dsomething5334
3 жыл бұрын
I think that professional footage was dubbed from a Japanese concert.
The weird and also impressive thing about mariah is that she always had nodules and she learned how to sing with them! I don’t think without it she would have so much control on the whistle register! And for the clip i think it was out of sync because that clip is from 96’ aka her vocal prime and she never lip synced at that era
@holobenthic

she dubbed a lot though so that might have been it

I will correct some thing regarding lip sync. Christina and Mariah were not lip syncing, those videos are dubbed, but there was not playback involved
@maelcosta7355

I dont know about christina but mariah does that because of how loud her voice is when she hits the high note . If she didn't pull the mic away it would sound rly bad or the mic would stop working because of her resonance

Christina wasn't lypsyncing. She's the worst doing it. She covers her face all the time when she's doing it.

Yeah, That I Don't Wanna Cry by Mariah Carey was different from the actual video to Live Performance. The audio was used from London or somewhere in Daydream World Tour, because that video was from Tokyo which is different that's why it's not sync

Fun fact Beyonce has that insane stamina cause she runs and sings to build that up Its soo insane how people don’t realise how hard it is I play guitar and that adds an exhaustion level but dancing moving is just another level
@kentamplin

Helo Marks Cardio is essential to vocal training. Helps with breath control/ stamina etc.
the audio they used for that last Mariah performance was put in that official video bc there isn't footage of the original performance, but it wasn't lipsynced, just so you know. and about the whistle register, she has been able to hit it because of nodules, it is a consequence of damage she has in her voice ever since she was a teen bc she used to smoke from 12 to 18, but I don't think the actual whistling damaged her chords, but was rather a side effect that she learned to control for effect which imo is masterful. love your input tho
the reason mariah’s clip seems lipped on the 3rd one is because as you can tell by the sound difference, the audio from the part where mariah pulls away the mic is from a different show on the daydream tour

Aaron Kelly omg I was about to comment the same, this is so obvious
I love how he's reproducing those insane high notes while sitting with arms folded, lol! Ken, you're the man xD
"Mariah is a hell of a vocalist" - Whitney Houston
Christina ALWAYS pulls the mic back, it's like.. her thing. I always thought if she didn't do that the mic might explode LOL. It would be amazing if you reacted to her "I loves you porgy" or even better "a song for you" live performance with the AMAZING Herbie Hancock. Also, I think Miley has a beautiful voice, but that screaming bit was just awful. Have you seen her backyard sessions thingy? It's gorgeous, she does a Jeff Buckley lilac wine cover, also a Dolly Parton (her godmother oh my god!) Jolene cover. Love you Ken!
@tootallforbaseball

You pull back the mic to avoid having way too much sound. We know that this technique is necessary, but that's not Ken's point. His point is that when you do pull back the mic that the sound should be different. That's why he thought she could be lip syncing...

Also Mariah Carey has nodules
I swear it's like they picked the worst clips for Mariah. Lol Terrible quality clips. Whoever did this compilation was probably afraid she'd outshine all the others. Lol It was clearly done intentionally.
Great video! Just one thing about your comment on Mariah's singing style..She didn't start doing those "male cover songs" because she lost her voice. She did them because her record label wanted her to do more straightforward belted performances like Without You or Hero because many critics hated her vocal gymnastics, particularly her whistle register. But at the same time she was doing those "lower register" ballads, she recorded songs like Dreamlover, Anytime You Need a Friend, and Fantasy which all boast multi-octave verses that have plenty of mix and whistle register use, and those effortless chest to head to falsetto transitions that became so trademark to her music.

The I Don’t Wanna Cry video is dubbed, so the vocals are isolated and more clean. At a certain part of the video though, where she pulled the mic away, they inserted the undubbed vocals in the video... idk how they did it, but they did lol.
I'm sure i'm not alone in saying i'd love to see ken do a BANG BANG cover lol
Christina pulls her mic back all the time, definitely not lip syncing. Love for you to react to her singing Its a mans world at the grammys.
Great vid man, I think that Mariah clip looked a little sus when she pulled the mic away because the performance was dubbed, not sure for what? But it was definitely a live performance and she sounded just as good if not even better without it being dubbed!
The more I watch your videos the more I learn and the more I admire you. Especially when you match the notes so effortlessly 😍 you're amazing man!

That Mariah performance where the mic was gone but still there was sound, it's because the footage is dubbed. 90s Mariah shows used to be 100% live, but they used to make her dub it afterwards to release it officially idk why, may be to get better audio quality or something. In 90s Mariah was in her prime with excellent vocals, she rarely lip synced back then.

Mariahs I don't Wanna Cry was dubbed. But that tour was one of the last tours where she didn't lipsync at all. Butterfly was where she started lipSyncing, primarily due to the years of singing constantly. With her songs being vocal challenges, her chords didn't have the stamina. What are your thoughts on nodules. Mariah has spoken about them and her vocal condition could dramatically improve if she had them surgically removed. Would you think that too risky on the voice or not?

Ken, here's something I don't get: are you supposed to cover or spread as you go higher up in pitch? Generally, I have learned that you're supposed to cover and narrow your vowels, but in some videos I've been seeing lately, including some of yours, you would say "well this singer spread his vowels, because it's easier as he goes up." So, please tell me which one it is, or if maybe it depends on what part of your high range you're singing? Is it that, when you're mixing you're supposed to spread, and then when you go higher you're supposed to cover? Thanks in advance.
