The song is actually quite sad, with deep, meaningful lyrics. All of us who grew up in Balkan region understand perfectly well what he’s singing about. Fear, anxiety, sadness that we have to leave our families and our countries because there is no prosperity and life for us here, our parents having to sell everything they have so they can send us away, us feeling like we can’t f*ck up and go back. It’s a lot. The fact that your first question is “Go where?” in the beginning just speaks volumes of how different we live. You obviously don’t get the stage, costumes and how it’s all connected to his village, even the music is Croatian folklore mixed with rock. Many layers to this song, but as always you just focus on one thing. Not every song can be a person standing and singing in clear, opera voice. I hope Baby Lasagna wins this year, he deserves it.

Hey :) I think Baby Lasagna is an artist that is well understud and have huge fans in Balkan area who can relate to his music, just as you said. But I think a lot of people watching wil not understand what he is trying to express. There are other songs in this years contest that are much more "easy" to understand. I think it will qualify but I dont think it will be ranked top 15. My favorite preformance from Croatia, the Africa Paprika song Moije something 2006 ;)

context is always hard to express in a song without it being a ballad or something with lots of lyrics. he chose to express it with this song, that actually reminds me a lot of the style Rammstein uses to convey their meanings in lyrics, but this song's lyrics are a bit short to convey the entire context, and the other elements also cannot do this. As far as i know, european countries are very close one to another, yet they really don't know shit about the reality of their neighbors. so conveying is hard

Why should she get it? In any case if she doesn't get "all the layers" to the level you would like it's on the performer, not on the audience. That is what good art is about, expressing something and trascending the cultural and language barriers to deliver a universal message. But this is an ESC performance, not high level art. If she "focuses" on one thing is because that is the level at which the song and performance work. Again, that's not on the audience, but on the performer. So, chill a lot.
The song is about a social phenomenon called “brain drain” which is very prevalent in the Balkans. Tens of thousands of young and well educated people leave Balkan countries every year and migrate to Western countries in pursuit of better opportunities. The song explores the sadness one feels after leaving their family, friends and country and is something that a lot of people can relate and it is a real issue in this part of the world. The song is the huge favorite to win because it’s almost guaranteed to win the televote and unlike Finland last year, it’s a standard rock song, in English, less experimental and more radio friendly and thus will probably do a lot better with the jury as well.
I think the song is about the uneasy feeling of a young countryside boy living in the big city or in another part of the world. This is why he expressed his anxiety as rig tagi dim dim. I got the feeling Croatia 🇭🇷 would win this year's Eurovision contest

Lots of Croatians moved to different countries for work (apart from escaping war in the 90s), so there might even be more Croatians abroad than in the homeland. In this song the main character is also moving out from the countryside to a city and possibly to a big city in a different country.
Rim-tim-tagi-dim is the rhythm of a famous Istrian traditional dance called balun. His sleeves resemble traditional men's shirts from Istria, a region in Croatia, one of the many in the world where people only grow up to be able to leave. If you cannot imagine the situation, please watch the official video. Meow from Serbia. 😊
Baby Lasagna is my No1 this year. Croatia rocks 🇭🇷.

@@DavorSimpa-qo6wm you people have to stop overrating Italy.
He's anxious because he moved from his birthplace, many Croatians feel like this when moving because they don't really want to go but have to. "My presence fades to black" refers to our language and culture dying because they usually stay in Germany or other places they move to and their kids don't really learn the language so we as people are kind of dying out more and more each year.
Don't feel bad about mishearing the words. No one I know knew that he was saying "anxiety attacks" either, hahah. He is swallowing a lot of letters, somehow. But Lasagna admitted he was anxious during his performance which could explain that (and the weakness in his voice in some instances). Also, about the clothes... They are wearing outfits inspired by Croatian traditional costumes (black/white, large white sleeves) and the "city boys" is probably a nod to the stereotype the rural population has about the city folk (especially here in Croatia where a stereotype of someone from Zagreb/capital is that they are flamboyant and/or soft).

Uvijek se nađe netko tko ce objašnjavati nebitno nebitnima.
For a little extra context, this is basically his first live performance as a singer. Definitely some work to be done, but pretty dang good nonetheless! Also, he got noticeably better just between the semi performance and the final, so I have high hopes for how he performs at ESC.

To add on that, if it weren't for another artist dropping out of the national selection, Baby Lasagna would not have been on that stage. And that is hard for me to imagine now, especially since he landslided the televote with more than half of all the votes.
So basically Georgina is saying: it's crazy, it's party 🎉💚
Thank you Georgina for a lovely review ❤ Wasn't expecting you'll like it, but I'm glad you do. 😊 Greetings from Croatia
He is singing about boy who is leaving his city or country in search for a better life . He sings he sold his cow and he will miss his cat and mum and dad. It is not band . It's a sad song (I just read) about young people leaving their small villages for opportunities.
When you listen to any song for the first time and you listen to it in one piece until the end and then you go to listen again because maybe it's too short??, as if you need more... It just keeps you on a high level until the end without a break. Everything is so well connected ,words, message, rhythm, melody, visuals..Everything so well connected and conveyed. Rim tim tagi dimm, he takes you right away but I think he stays for a long time and today that is not easy. Well done BL

Bravo za komentar, ja moram reci da sam jako muzikalna i volim sve zanrove u muzici ako ih osjetim kao dobre i kvalitetne. I nakon prvog slusanja ove pjesme, osvojila me totalno i drzala me u nekoj pozitivnoj euforiji dok sam slusala.

Thanks for the reaction - enjoyed watching this. Ok, some context. I think the meaning is pretty clear and has universal appeal across Europe - it's about young people leaving their hometowns and moving to make a career in the city or even another country. I think it's something any of us, including myself, can relate to. The message is so strong in this. And I think it can be very quickly picked up. The song itself is great. The guy is called Marco and was in a band.before - this is his first time singing as a solo artist, as Baby Lasagna. And it's my 'anxiety attacks' - about leaving his family to try to make a living elsewhere. The traditional dance in there is I imagine a farewell to his family as he embarks on the journey. Also, I think important context here is that he had half the time to rehearse as all the other artists in the Croatian selection yet still managed to wipe the floor with every single other contestant. He was brought in as first on the reserve list of songs after one of the originally selected acts had to drop out. He will improve greatly in vocals and stage presence for Malmo, and has pre-parties to help him along the way.

I didn't look up what the lyrics meant and now that you explained it makes total sense, somewhat similar to what happens in Portugal, the situations are not ideal and people usually leave and the country suffers a bit. Sometimes I forget that fun songs can have a meaning.

No sex - anxiety attacks.... like heart attack, or rock attack
Croatia is full of small villages and farm lands, and most of us living there at one point (mostly because of school) leave are villages, our pets, animals, etc. to move to bigger cities. So the song is mostly about that. “Hey, Im a big boy now Im ready to leave, ćao mama, ćao!”
Probably my favorite so far. This or France. There’s a lot to be worked on regarding the performance, and he just simply isn’t the best vocalist, but he brings the energy to make up for it. At face value the lyrics seem mostly like nonsense, and to be fair they kind of are, but there is actually a serious underlying theme to it. However it has to be stated that the song thrives in its production more than anything else. Great structure (especially for adrenaline junkies - metal AND EDM incorporated into the same song), ruthlessly catchy, and creative too - in a good way. 10/10.
A banger with an important meaning and story! 😻

This is my winner and currently the bookie's favourite to win, as well as the winner of numerous polls to win! The song is about young Croatians leaving their homes in the countryside to move to the city for bigger opportunities. It's also about braindrain and how those from the East move to the West e.g. Britain and America, partially as a result of political corruption! Marco, the singer of the song, wrote and mixed the song himself and his future wife did the visuals and lyric videos! Great that you like this! I do like this one very much. This will be a great year for Croatia.
My favourite this year! Excited to hear your thoughts, Georgina. Your videos are a much needed bit of warmth in what can be a cold world sometimes! *edit* bit of context, it’s written about the mass migration of young people from the rural Balkan areas looking for work and how it destroys the communities they leave behind. That’s why he sings about his anxiety attacks etc from being away from his homeland. It’s quite a serious topic but presented in a very fun, tongue in cheek way. From what I can gather, he’s not really a known performer. He was only put into the NFs as a replacement for someone who left and then he won the whole thing! He seems to be improving a lot vocally, so I have high hopes for May!
OMIGOD why does EVERYONE mishear "my anxiety attacks" as "my anxiety is sex" 😂
(This is copy/paste comment from someone and it's perfectly explained)->WHY this song should win ESC. Beside being so highly catchy and relatable. He himself wrote his lyrics, made music, arangement and came up with this staging in 1 MONTH (doing all other things like interviews, official video etc) as he came to competition as a reserve. His girlfriend is in charge of his visuals and his brother is a drummer, and everything is made mostly with a help of his family and close friends. This guy delivered, not only a song, but values too. He's not bringing nudity, cursing and there's no any other provocation inside his lyrics or visuals. That's what ESC is all about. It's the essence of this festival. It's a SONG competition made by an author himself. Marko himself is not aware of what he delivered here becouse he's such a humble and kind soul, which is such a rarity in the world these days. He's an artist indeed and I'm so very happy he finally decided to take that step and pursue his solo career after so many years being a band member and writing songs for others. Wish him all the best in life ❤
