Abe gadhe ho kya? He got an Honorary Doctorate, he didn't actually study music at Oxford. Of course, he's great regardless of that, but an honorary doctorate is different from a real Ph.D. Many distinguished achievers get honorary doctorates all the time, it's not that big of a deal. Idiot.

I was quite impressed when you described the lady's part as having " some kind of angelic purity about her voice"; that is exactly what the term afreen means. The song is basically describing the beauty of a woman using similes and metaphors and then the lady's part is staying afreen... angelic purity. I get that sense throughout the song being able yo understand the language but it's quite nice that you pick that up just from her voice. Credits you and a lot to her for being able to portray that.

Mubashir Murtaza 😮 I wasn’t alluding to gender discrimination in the slightest.😮 All I was trying to convey was my impression that she slips in and out of the song before I’d heard enough. It was like she did an intro then left; it felt unfinished, The video indicates that her part as additional lyrics, so that could explain why it’s so brief.

The end part of the song where he goes really aggressive, it's a part of Indian classical music called SARGAM, it's musical syllables SA RE GA MA PA DHA NI, the equivalents of DO RE MA FI SO in Western music. Indian music emphasises on singers improvising during a song and within a given song they can improvise and use the notes in whatever permutation and combination they want. The original singer and composer of this song USTAD NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN, the uncle and Teacher of Rahat is a real king of this genre of music. Do react to him as well.

The bit at the end is playing around with the musical equivalent of Do Re Mi-Sa Re Ga Ma...the technical term is "Lehkaari". Which brings me to Rahat's Uncle, NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN!!!The greatest voice to hit the microphone ever (Saying this as humbly as possible). His Lehkaari will transport you to another dimension!

Ok Ken- you’ve got a new fan/subscriber in me. I love, love, LOVED this. It’s been brilliant hearing a westerners opinion on our music. What we’ve grown up listening and what is just ‘normal’ to us, you make sound so academic. PLEASE look up more songs of CS Pakistan- I promise you, you’ll go down a rabbit hole of AMAZINGNESS and will not regret the time spent exposing yourself to fantastic signers, musicians, etc.

Actually the end of the song carries the vibe of the original song, the “cover” part about it is the rest of the song which is made softer and more approachable for wider audience. They made it more beautiful and difficult from more technical and difficult as it was originally.

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and his uncle Ustad (master of masters) Nusrat Fateh Ali khan are legends from pakistan. These are generational singers, they belong to singing family. They start singing at a very young age and practice religiously for at least 6-8 hours everyday. You can also check out Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Amjad Sabri's "Rang" and Rahat Fateh Ali and Abida Parveen's "Chap tilak",both from coke studio. Amzad Sabri (belonged to another singing family) and Abida parveen are legends as well. Hope you like them 💛
