ik you said that seymour wasn’t a very vocally challenging role, but i saw jeremy on his last day at the matinee and let me tell you : he opted up WHENEVER he got the chance! he was NOT satisfied with mushnik and and son’s ending and OH MY GOD he’s so good! he puts 100% into everything he does! incredible.

The one on the middle (chiffon) returned as Audrey with Jeremy Jordan as Seymour last summer. They’re now gone but she’s fantastic and honestly the perfect Audrey. You can still find videos of her singing somewhere that’s green, while crying, without messing up vocally.

That's the version I saw, too, and it was fantastic.

the guy who comes out of the door and sings "that's when you go" is christian borle!! he plays i think about 10 roles throughout this production but most notably, orin as well as skip snip, berstein, and mrs. luce in the meek shall inherit number

If you haven't seen Jermey Jordan in Newsies, then I highly recommend. It was my first intro to him and he absolutely kills it, especially in the song Santa Fe

I know it’s been a while since you made this video but the tall girl in the trio actually is currently playing Audrey! I just saw her and she’s genuinely so amazing and talented and my personal favorite Audrey

@@smurf902 nah....I saw her performance and she was brilliant....a completely different take on Audrey that I'd never seen or would have thought would work, but WORKED. Don't judge too much on a 5 minute clip.

I saw her in this and she was incredible...her take on Audrey was completely different and one I'd never seen...she was older, hard, jaded, beaten down and tired. I wasn't sure I was going to like her until "Somewhere that's Green"...and I lost it. Her relationship with Orin was one she accepted and felt like she could do no better...this clip doesn't show her character enough to judge on it.

YES! I know this is an old comment, but I just saw it, and I was thinking the same thing. That Audrey would kick that dentist's ass.

I think at the end he's not necessarily scared, just really awkward. He wouldn't be used to any touch, especially something that close from an attractive woman. I also got the impression from her dress/makeup/vocal choices that she's playing a more "hardened" version of Audrey instead of the bird-brained stereotype, so it probably is a stylistic choice, though definitely not my favorite version of her. Jeremy makes up for everything though!

Used to it or not, he Wants that woman's touch. I doubt he would jerk away from her. And I agree with what you were saying about the woman playing Audrey, she seems like she's playing more of a Rizzo character from Grease.

I recently saw Little Shop (7/18), and Tammy was Audrey that night. She’s definitely a hardened version of the movie character. She kept moving around though which bothered me..like she just wouldn’t stay still. Even her mouth would move when she wasn’t speaking, maybe it was a character trait but her vocals were really good that night.

@@PaiqeJonas I know someone who used to be a drug user (now clean several years), and he recently saw LSOH with Tammy as Audrey. He said he actually felt really uncomfortable watching Tammy perform, because her mannerisms and physical movements were far too familiar to him, as if Tammy was playing Audrey like she was an addict. He said he enjoyed it and thought she was great, but found her hard to watch (which I think he meant as a complement to her accuracy).

@@lordyeetus6317 that’s EXACTLY what I was thinking! Her mannerisms were that of an addict..and I thought to myself “hmm..an interesting take on Ellen’s Audrey” but I actually liked it given that they’re in Skid Row. Again, it annoyed me here and there but I’m so used to the movie version, lol.

Although Jeremy definitely could have done better than Seymour, it doesn't change the fact that he absolutely killed it. I saw the Musical on January 6th and I was blown away. Believe me, I know how amazing Jeremy is and it still took me by surprise. I constantly talk about how talented he is with my friends and family, but when my Grandma and I went to see it, she was surprised at how good he was. And I hype that man up on a daily basis. I also think that Tammy was just not fit for the role of Audrey. She definitely has potential and is an amazing singer, but playing Audrey just wasn't for her. All in all, the performance was astounding and I would definitely watch it again, even though Jeremy isn't playing Seymour anymore.

Tammy Blanchard is a much better singer than this performance demonstrates. I think she was miscast and likely given poor direction.

I don't know - I think Audrey is a thankless role because Ellen Greene owns it so totally. You've really got to work hard to get out from under it, and to many people (including myself, if I'm honest) it's not going to be "right."

@@CRanapiaSure but you have to do your own thing and ignore the comparison. It's one of the most toxic things of broadway like I just enjoy hearing other peoples rendition. I do find the choice is a bit odd and not sure if they directed her to make that choice or she just IS miscast. From the little struggle in singing and the fact that she seems to in control for her character.

Hell, I remember a great interview with British actor Imelda Staunton - who played Mama Rose in a West End revival of GYPSY then went on to Mrs Lovett in SWEENEY TODD. Two huge roles with a hell of a legacy, but she made the sensible observation that they're like any other part - you bring what you've got, and put it in the service of the show you're in. That is an actor's only job - whether they're doing a revival of an iconic musical on Broadway or the first reading of a new straight play in a church hall.

You should really react to Jeremy Jordan singing Santa Fe in the musical Newsies, or even him in Bonnie & Clyde!!

raise a little hell is very impressive

As sad as it is that covid closed down Broadway, quarantine was really good for all the Broadway actors cause it gave them a vocal break from performing 8 times a week and now they’re back and better than ever

Tammy Blanchard plays her character wise as a drunk. She kind of stumbles and slurs her words. I saw her a few weeks ago as Audrey and it’s for sure a choice? I think

Jeremy as Seymour? Perfect. Tammy? She did not fit the part of Audrey in any sense, however she’s gorgeous! I just can’t see her as Audrey in any of the performances I’ve seen in clips

To be fair, I don't think I'm the only one who really struggles to see anyone but Ellen Greene in that part. I have a friend who saw one of the Encores! performances in 2015 , and he said the audience went wild she first walked on stage -- thirty three years after she created the role, and 29 after the film -- and everyone else could have just gone home. She owns it that completely.

I saw Tammy in this and she was brilliant....this coming from someone who has played Audrey and thinks Ellen Greene is the ONLY Audrey. Tammy was completely different and owned it.

It is kind of funny that your name is Audrey and so is one of the main characters

If you haven’t already, you should review Joy Woods as Audrey!!!!!

I was really let down by Tammy Blanchard in this performance… she was fantastic in How to Succeed in Business and in Gypsy… it seems like she was having an off day during this performance…

I felt the same, her interpretation of Audrey ruins it for me, Audrey is more subdued and ditzy- that’s why we love her, this strong character destroyed it for me

I was second row for this production in January 2020...let me tell you...Tammy was beyond incredible. I have played Audrey and think Ellen Greene is the epitome of Audrey, but halfway thru "Somewhere That's Green", I was a mess. Her Audrey is older, beaten down, hard, and tired, and she was brilliant.

Please at some point react to Anya Taylor Joy's Downtown ...she is amazing!! And so are you!! The perfect combination 😍😍🤗🤗

I’m going to New York in June and this is one of the shows I’m seeing, I’m super excited!

I love strong female characters, but Audrey was such amazing character because she was ditzy and had this pessimistic out look on life, she was very intelligent but knew in the world she lived in, she had to pretend to be a bird-brain, making her strong destroys her character arch, there is such strength in her ditzy feminine ways, she grows so much, no hate to the actress but they did her dirty.

They really did do her dirty, in a interview I heard they wanted to bring Audrey "down to reality" acting like lsoh isn't camp! And that Audrey was a badly written character!

Tammy was absolutely the best part of this production. We've been lucky enough to see Conrad, Skylar and Rob multiple times, and even Chelsea was on for Audrey at one of our performances, but we always went for Tammy. Always.

YES!!!!!!!!! I am being very defensive of her in this comment section bc she was INCREDIBLE.

Dumb? I can’t think of a single example of Audrey doing anything that hints at low IQ. She is often portrayed as simple… innocent (?) perhaps is what you are reading as “dumb”… but it’s interesting that because Ellen Greene played Audrey as very vulnerable and hyper feminine, (+ blonde hair and the voice maybe??) you’ve decided the character is “dumb” and “a floozy”… not a very nuanced interpretation of the character. I guess that’s why you’re critiquing vocals and not acting --

She struggles on high notes

Unfortunately, I have to say I was not impressed by this cast. I do not like the Audrey singer, obviously that's Ellen Greens fault for actually making and repeatedly performing as this character and, in my mind, defining the true Audrey. I do agree that I feel that Jeremy is wasted in this part, plus I would go as far as to say that he was miscast. His characterization, so I guess he's trying to make it his own character, just totally destroys what I believe to be Seymours charisma. Jeremy just seemed depressed. And yes, I guess probably a little bit scared, probably of Audrey singing in his ear. I do really like Jeremy but his performance of this to me is far from great. If the two main characters are somehow so miscast, it worries me that this is Little Shop of Horrors representation as Broadway reopens I do want to acknowledge that perhaps a little of why they all seemed so timid (or scared) maybe because it's a very fresh cast except for a few members so they may not understand how to adapt the stage musical onto the TV show's soundstage. Always seeing full out let sound production do their job. If you guys just each other your product will seem incredible, this unfortunately left me saying : eh, coulda been worse.

I actually thought the urchins were underwhelming. And middle urchin singer the worst of the 3. I do agree with Audrey's characterizations are not what I want to see or expect. I prefer the more floozy and softer Audrey. This Audrey will dominate Seymour and could probably take on all takers, Dentist included.

You are a vocal coach not real singer. You go on Broadway or off Broadway which I assume you have never done. So how dare criticize people who have.

THANK YOU! It's funny to me how she's criticizing Tammy when she hasn't even SEEN the production. I have played Audrey, watched every single Ellen Greene performance, and seen everyone else play it like Ellen (myself included), and think Ellen is the EPITOME of Audrey...I saw this production in January 2020 and was blown away by Tammy's performance, as well as the entire cast. It was an amazing show.
