I heard her at an Irish dance pub before she was famous. The usually raucous crowd was spellbound. It like she's speaking from an inner personal space. l never tire of her. Thank you for playing this beautiful classic.

I first saw k.d.lang performing at a Calgary Stampede party when she was this young girl from small town Alberta. We were all in awe over this cowboy booted, poodle skirted young woman with a voice that cut through the rowdy chaos of a Stampede saloon. Everyone there knew she was going to be famous one day!

OH WOW! Are you ever lucky. I remember some of her very early TV performances and she could really be a wild woman and then sing a ballad. Like you, I never tire of her.
The 1st time I saw k.d. live I was sitting about 10 rows from the stage. As soon as this icon sang her 1st note the audience experienced collective whiplash! Lol! Have been in love with this artist for years and years. ✌
I absolutely love Roy Orbison and have to give credit to K D Lang for this terrific performance! I feel like she’s channeling Roy. Great request and reaction.
k.d. Was asked by Roy Orbison to do a duet with him of his hit “ Crying “. He had heard her voice and was very impressed. They did the duet and it was beautiful. When Roy died she was asked by the organizers of his tribute concert to sing “ Crying “. This is from that concert……she brought the house down!

She sang back up on his Black and White Night video, check it out on here, she's on the right of the screen, bunch of other legend's too, I won't say who and just let you enjoy it.
KD and Roy released a duet of this as a single in 87. Two very special vocalists. RIP Roy Orbison

One of the best and most unique voices on the planet, and a very touching 'Thank you, Roy' at the end.
You can tell she cared for Roy. I heard the audience gave her a standing ovation for several minutes. Moved by emotion and talent.

kd Lange is awesome! I could listen to her sing that song over and over again - into infinity! Wow! What a sound she produces! We are blessed to have her on tape! I just love her and her music! Blessings to you, kd, and ti Ken Lavigne who explains what kd is doing (musically). I so enjoy her performances!
Thank you so much, Ken, for another great reaction. It’s significant that you mentioned her singing “behind the beat.” This is something that’s also obvious when she did Hallelujah at the opening of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and I think it’s one of the aspects of her performance that makes it so mesmerizing. Even if you’re not aware that’s what she’s doing, the listener can’t help but be just that little bit anxious about when she’s going to come in and that creates a delicious tension that increases the focus. Just one of the things that she is brilliant at. 👍❤️

Nice pic up... kind of like willie
kd Lang has that "country" cry in her voice because she started out as a county-western singer in Canada with her own band, "kd lang and the Reclines" (Get it? Re-Clines as in Patsy Cline, who was one of her early idols. You should really watch the KZread video of her very first performance in the United States, which was on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1987. She wrenched ever.single.last.emotion out of "In Care Of Th Blues". Incredible.
You should hear her rendition oh Hallelujah
KD Lang(Also a Legend on her own accounts) is probably the only person that can truly do "Crying", or anything by Roy, any true justice. Roy is my favorite musical artist of all time. Awesome reaction🤘🏼🤌🏼🔥 RIP Roy Orbison The Man, The Myth, The Legend

@@tomfabozzi5353 I've seen the duet here on KZread back awhile ago. It was so good. You can tell just by that performance alone that he loved her rendition of his song. But yes, I think in one of his last interviews he said he really loved KD's covers of his songs.

Rebekah del Rio also does an incredible rendition of this song in Spanish.
Amazing talent. I remember her doing Hallelujah at the Olympics. Absolutely breath taking, well hearing her do that song gets me everytime.

I was in the audience for the final dress rehearsal of the Opening Ceremonies. Her rendition of "Hallelujah" was *incredible*, and every single person in attendance was spellbound - it was like the entire stadium held their collective breath the entire time. 🤩
I saw her once in a small venue. She was very magnetic and she had the audience in the palm of her hand. I think more than anyone I've ever seen she had that rare ability to own a room
I was introduced to k. d. Lang when she was singing more country style music (pop) so that slight yodel was very present. I wore out two copies of her cassette, (😁😁) Shadowland. Absolutely adore her. What a voice. Thanks so much for bringing this great artist and her magnificent voice back to my sometime forgetful, old 72 year old mind. Great reaction as always Ken. Thanks to you also Auntie for the request. Peace and blessings all.

I'm 72 also, and saw her live for the first time right just before Shadowland released - k.d. Land and the Reclines! Remember? Absolutely jaw-dropping, stunning performance. Made me a fan for life.
Please do HALLELUJAH by kd Lang...best ever!,,,
it's really a shame that this is the only attention that K D gets anymore!!! she has sooo many originals of her own that deserves attention!!!!!
Ken it’s wonderful for you to recognize her as the incredible artist she is. This song has so much heart and Roy will never be replaced his voice was unlike any we have heard and so is Cady’s voice. Always packs a punch and pulls the heart strings when you hear the passion in her voice.
Absolutely fantastic, i listen to this nearly every day. What a voice! ✨️❤️
I've been a fan of K.D. Lang since the movie Dick Tracy when she performed riding the rails.
Thank you a terrific reaction to this fabulous singer. Love how she looks up and mouths the words "thank you, Roy". First video I saw of k.d. lang was an early performance on The Tonight Show. She sang the Patsy Cline song "Two Cigarettes in An Ashtray". I could not believe how powerful her voice was...don't know how she hit (and held) some notes, as she was sitting through the entire song. Been a fan ever since.

Johnny Carson absolutely loved her and had her on about 5 times before he retired. She blew him away the first time she was on the show.
My mom played Ingenue a lot when I was a kid, and I'm glad she did. Kd has a rare gift, for sure.
Really enjoyed that... never heard her sing this... love, love, love, it
KD has such a beautiful voice, so underrated as a vocalist.
One of my favourite performances of her was from more than 30years ago. Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray that she performed on The Late Show with Johnny Carson. Would love if you could react to that one...
She is amazing and I've been a fan for decades! Thank for your reaction.
Purity, honesty, beauty.
Oh, wow - I really like her voice👌 Thanks for this reaction video❣
Yay!!! I've been waiting for you to do another song I love!!! Big Roy Orbison fan, and watched KD Lang sing back up for him on the Black and White Night, this is an utterly sorrowful rendition of his track, she absolutely owns it and takes it to another level.
One of the greatest singers I have ever heard….especially live…more more..
Hi Ken, KD has always been one of my top 5 favorites. When I listen to her, she seems to have some characteristics that Dimash has like dynamics (loud to soft to loud), emotion/passion, belting, & a pure and clear tone.
Cowboy yell for sure. KD Lang and the Reclines were great.
What a set of pipes! She also did this as a duet with Roy Orbison, and if you liked this version, you would love that duet. Two of the greatest voices in popular music, working together like magic. In fact, that duet was probably the reason she was asked to do this tribute. Thanks, KD, for the beauty and love you've brought to the world.
She is always pitch perfect. Her voice is so incredible.
Seeing KD perform live is awesome❤️❤️
Its been years since I've heard her sing. Wow! That was simply amazing.
K d has such an amazingly emotive voice. She sings with her heart. She can sing anything. Her breath control and range, wow. ❤
Liked her when she was country, when she went solo, but I remember seeing this and finally realizing how astounding she was. Spectacular.
Fantastic!!! I love k.d. Great reaction; thank you!
She is freaking incredible!
She can do whatever she wants to with her voice. One of a kind for sure.
Her voice absolutely takes my breath away!!
She is my favorite singer. ❤
She makes me cry, such a pure voice…love it..❤️🇦🇺❤️
K.D. Lang sings all her songs with effortless vocal and emotion in every note. She is the best female singer of all time. She sang with clarity and purity.
There are no notes that give KD Lang trouble. She’s probably one of the best pop singers ever - and her technique rivals some of the most technically trained singers.
Her version of Hallelujah is the best.

Which says a lot considering that it's been covered 5000 times
I get goosebumps every time I see this performance. I can understand why the people there were brought to their feet with her delivery of that song. She is a Canadian icon.
Was first introduced to k.d. at the Roundup in SF. 40 yrs later, my 2-steppin’ song is still Big Boned Gal. 💃
She has a fabulous voice!
others have beautiful voices, but WOW, KD can make each song sound like she is totally living and experiencing what she is singing.. One totally unique singer. wonderful.
🇨🇦 There are a lot of female Canadian artists, and most of them are BadAss ! LOL
Oh wow! Love this! However, I personally think her version of Crying on MTV Unplugged is far superior to this, and it was slower, so she had more time to linger on certain notes. And if you watch it, notice that she sings the entire song with her eyes closed. It's a totally different vibe.
Roy Orbison chose k.d. lang in 1988 to sing Crying with him and recorded it for the movie Hiding Out and included it on his album King Of Hearts and the collaboration won a Grammy. She also San backup vocals with Bonnie Raitt and Jennifer Warnes on his TV special. She knew him pretty well.
I love her voice and she is so very talented. Here is my wish…..she and Adam Lambert on stage and singing together. I believe the roof would blow off the building.
My God she is so special!! I could listen to this all day!❤
I first saw kd lang in London at the Camden Palace in 1987 or 1988 (I still have a street poster on hardboard I ‘took’ as a souvenir from about a year or two later 😂) I saw almost all her concerts in London till 1994. Her early records were OK but did not translate/project her warmth of personality and fantastic voice. But live … always absolutely beautiful. And I also loved her outfits. The last time I had a chance to see her was in Amsterdam in 2008. Great memories.
I am such a fan of k.d. and have seen her live, but have not listened to her for a while and am so pleased to be reminded just how stunning her voice is...just heart-stopping. I found your detailed analysis so interesting and have been 'hanging on to every word' 🙃 (new subscriber 👍)

I'm right there!
Ken I absolutely loved watching and hearing your reaction ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Ken.
I love her music. It doesn’t matter what she sings, just amazing. What I do not like is you interrupting her song. 🎶 Introduce her in the beginning and talk about her music after she is finished. Then you can talk as long as you want.
Thanks Ken!! Always enjoy your videos. I was very fortunate to have attended a concert of hers on the 1990 tour. What an unforgettable experience. Her voice is, like you stated, heart-ripping! And live is even more sublime than recorded. Another treat is the film, Even Cowgirls Get the Blues ... if you haven't seen it. k.d sings on the soundtrack. BAREFOOT is probably my most fave song of hers. kzread.info/dash/bejne/e2h6zdCch8ivgtY.html That plaintive opening of the guitar always rends my soul.
I never really liked this song, but I LOVE kd's version! Her voice is like no other.
Beautiful tribute to Roy❤
Otherworldly Voice. GOOSEBUMPS ❤❤❤
I watched Ben Mink perform live when he was with FM, I never guessed these two would've ended up together. The music we got from this pair is so unique and powerful. Thank you both.
Love her voice. I didn’t know this performance was available. Thanks for the review
MTV unplugged version was even better!!
Great performance! I liked your reactions. One of you perfectly appreciated and described the technical stuff and the other you said screw that, it makes me physically feel something. That's where the gift shows itself.
One of my favorite barefoot singers

If you study Roy Orbison’s life and the death of his sons in a house fire you’d understand more where the utter sadness of his songs comes from. He truly sang from heartbreaking experience.
I love KD and loved Roy Orbison!
Roy would have been so PROUD of her! She is amazing...he thought she was that's why he sang with her...
Check out her and Roy's duet on Crying
if you like this listen to K.D. Lang and the Reclines singing Patsy Cline songs. Thank you Kevin, great post I am a subscriber and fan from now on.
Ken: thanks so much for your wonderful reaction (comments), it lets us dumb folks (at least me) appreciate this wonderful artist even more. Thank you again.
Her very best version of Crying by Roy Orbison.
I love her
❤ 😊 Stella performance
I think she was saying that was for you Roy❤
So moving. There is a video of her singing this with Roy which is amazing. I don't have a link, but I'm sure you can find it. Well worth a look.
Sir watch the MTV Unplugged version of KD singing this it is MAGICAL!
She has said she was heavily influenced by Patsy Cline. That’s were that cry or yodel in her voice comes from.
The first time I heard her do this was as a duet with Roy.
It’s funny that you mention KD’s “cowboy yodel”. She comes from Consort, Alberta Canada which is a very, very small rural community that’s surrounded by ranch and farmlands. There’s no one like her!
Hi Ken....we MISS your Morissette reactions!!!!
This was a tribute to Roy his family asked her to perform this. She is amazing isn't she 🇨🇦❤
Beautiful changes of the original which I don't usually like but here her changes are better!! Roy's tone is lower
❤❣❣❣❣❣❤
Is that what it’s called? A cowboy yodel? I love that part
I have noticed that, since she proclaimed her sexuality, she is much more free on stage and is able to express herself in her music.
She respects the song. In the self-indulgent, autotuned, modern, by the numbers music business it is SO refreshing to hear an artist that can do it all without tricks, electronics and festoons of melisma. One of the most beautiful voices in music.
So how is wish she were still performing
Hey if you like covers.....Chris Cornell doing "I will always love you" is my favorite version of that song.
She was his backup singer
To think that the likes of you should be critiquing K.D, Lang is laughable. Just be quiet. Breathe slowly. And feel privileged.
YEARS ago, she did two albums for public service. One about all the songs related to abuse of women ( Johnny Get Angry for example) and one that has all the smoking references. She got a lot of flack because she performed the songs so well. A lot of people didn't Get it.
I'd put KD up with Whitney, which I think we'll all agree is a big call.
Hey fellow humans....check out Ray Stevens cover of Crying
Excellent review of KD Lang performing “Crying!” Any of her videos for this song is worthy of listening to multiple times. I’m not sure if you take suggestions for videos from the comments but I’m hoping you do. I would really enjoy your review of LeAnn Rimes singing Patsy Cline’s “I Fall To Pieces.” LeAnn is just 17 in this video! Thank you and enjoy! kzread.info/dash/bejne/i6F8uaduhNq3fLg.htmlsi=cMyuef4mW4r53xYA
Master Class folks. All singers today and past don't hold or can't hold those notes! Patsy Cline only would surpass her student
