Honestly for me (and many others) besides Celines cover of this song, THIS cover is the gold standard. She is 19 here, so wow! I saw this performance when PBS aired it originally and I stood up in my living room and gave her a standing Ovation. The audience reaction says it all! Music ultimately is about making the listener feel , and every single time no matter how many times I see this performance (which is probably 100s at this point 😂) it gives me Goosebumps to almost tears. David Foster produced this for Celine Dion (original writer and singer was Eric Carmen) He hand picked Charice to deliver it when he reprised it. I'm not sure how much you're into classical music but there's an interesting story with this song that happened with the original writer Eric Carmen, because he sampled some from Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto in C minor (worth a read).

The best rendition of this song, for me Charice is my best singer in the Philippines.

This is what she gave up for a life of freedom. I feel sorry but jake zyrus is happier now than being Charice. I wish she still sings like this crazy good but not anymore. It's so nice to revisit her great vocals. I'm always looking forward to your analysis.

Remember she is only 4'6-8" tall. Do you recognize the piano player? David Foster, they call him the hit man. He wrote this little diddie. Charice was the Filipino that broke the barrier down between the Philippines and U.S. She was championed by David Foster, Oprah, and Celine. She was a powerhouse, I love watching her sing.

Dissected analysis, great and interesting! Charice was indeed a heavenly talent. Someone can analyze and learn about it but no one can acquire that gift if not born with it. Unfortunately that voice doesn’t exist anymore. Dig a bit more you will know why. But at the same time, you cannot understand “why” other than just “respect her”. I think reading more into her life events from childhood to now, the story was even more amazing than the vocal techniques. Btw, she was 18 at the time of this performance.

I like to add to this analysis that at 3:22 just after that incredible high long note, the run was equally awesome and not to be missed. I am totally blown away by that solid, air filled deep throat and diaphragm run that completed the high note! In the same manner Charice carried her voice throughout her singing in a totally satisfying and out of this world fashion.

Great analysis. To really hear Charice, one has to close eyes.. disconnect from the image of a small girl singing. You'll really hear the power and depth of her voice. But then, that's for normal listeners like us. You obviously have way better powers of observation and appreciation. We already miss this version of Charice, it's not coming back. So we now have Mori and others to carry on where she left off
