I remember in Phil after she sang this, everyone forgot it is actually an Aerosmith song. Her version became the standard for Filipinos and I honestly believe that Phil music artistry will not be the same have she opt to go international. Her songs are like the syllabus for upcoming singers, exams are when they perform similar songs and graduation is when they sing with her (that is why most of them weep on stage when they sing with her for the first time). She coaches, promotes and guides young artists, and on top of that she is so humble and funny. She didn't think she's special and will go out without makeup, sing randomly in a bar or wedding, say a few jokes and perform for FREE for upcoming artists small concerts and help them sell tickets. She is such a gift and the Philippines is blessed to have her.

I remember how I always heard that it is because of Regine why karaoke rise to every home in the Philippines and so belting starts to fame.

Loved the intro! She truly posseses that commanding presence on stage. Having said that, Regine declined many offers to do musicals as she didnt really see herself a cut in that industry. She said that musicals have different discipline and that she could never do their vocal placements constantly. She is a very experimental vocalist and she sees Pop as more of a fit for her. Given that in her almost 3 decades of singing career she had been given the opportunity to do concerts in musical reportoire. Thats how versatile she is as a singer.

Fun fact for you Ms. Tania, her father taught her to sing drowning her, half-bodied in the open sea. Her father theorized that the contraction of the water and her diaphragm makes her breathing more intact and strong.

If you like crystal clear voice, a filipina actually made it to broadway (first asian woman to win Tony), Lea Salonga. She's also the singing voice for Mulan and Princess Jasmine of Aladdin.

Regine did not have a formal training. She is however a veteran of more than 200 local singing contests where she honed her talent before winning the national competition. However, her rise to superstardom happened 2 years later when she represented the country and won in an Asian Competition where she got the moniker Asia's Songbird from the Asian press. She did not make it globally because there was no social media yet in the 90s. Also, it was the time of soul singing style of Mariah and Whitney which Regine is not an expert of. She sings melodiously in the same way like her idol Barbra Streisand. She was the biggest star in the 90s and early 2000. All her movies and concerts were big hits. Regine is now in her late 40s but her concerts are still jampacked with her loyal fans thru the years.

Greetings! Not only she is a star, she is actually the Phippines' Female Music Super Star. I would say she is a female Pavarotti. From many aspiring singers joining contest (even a guy, yeah, seriously) on TV her name is always mentioned as their "Idol" - hosts would ask "who is your 'idol'?", "Regine Velasquez" (quez is pronounced as KE - guess excpt with the letter g or Che in "Che Ge Lina Mannina") is the reply. Based on the story, her dad trained her in the sea or lake (not sure) peolple sometimes use the two interchangeably. Anyways, like in a video I've seen with Pavarotti, the pianist said to Luciano "Shen they heard you sins they wanted to sng like you" so do I. The same happen to Regine fans. Even they gay community idolize her. Another fact, Angeline Qiunto (pronounce it as Keen - Knee, nicholas).

Yeah, I agree. She was mostly popular in the 80s. That's when I first heard of her. In fact one of my filipino students used to bring her cassettes to class all the time and her CDs. I think it's just her time came and went back then.
