The sentence is not “John wake up and turn off the alarm.” But the sentence is “John, wake up and turn off the alarm.” Its writing mistake. Someone is telling to John that wake up and turn off the alarm.

A comma was missing after John so it has a different meaning . It wa a command and not an affirmative . Well a Good Example for teaching how to use the comma.(,),,,.
