VO-W700 Woofer

The VO-W700s are drivers made to satisfy an underappreciated bandwidth between the bottom end of a midrange and the heavy lows of the subwoofer, striking a balance of clarity and power that puts them in a class of their own. With a rich pedigree tracing back to the 1990’s era of Digital Designs 9000 Series subwoofers, and a sleek undemanding profile, these woofers have been made for applications where depth is limited, but expectations are not.

Awesome, surprised large size woofers haven't taken off more in the car audio world. I hear a lot of setups lacking in the mid bas and lower midrange range. But when space is a premium for most of us, it is kind of hard to find a spot for something like this in a daily on top of sub(s) and another amp to push them. But for the more extreme setups I see these making a huge improvement in sound in the car. But I could also see using these instead of subs for a purely musical setup, you really don't need to go much farther down then 35hz if your main focus is SQ. But the main thing here is DD always innovating and bringing incredible products to the table as always.

We've actually tested them as dedicated subwoofers and they perform extremely well. In a 1 cubic foot sealed box the VO-W712 was able to play down to 22 hz in vehicle with quite a bit of volume

I can see myself using these in a few applications. Home theater builds, car audio SQ purposes and even some custom box builds for 3 way speakers. A bit more info is desired though - even if it's speculative. Curious about its transmission Line ability....

I just got the sl610 will this be a better option in a truck box the sl610 just isn’t doing for me how much air space does the vo 710 need?

If you want more output, yes the VO-W710 will be the way to go. Box requirements are the same, but you can run about twice as much power on the W700

It can be used as a fairly shallow sub in a car. It can also be used as a midwoofer in giant demo systems to fill in the midbass-lower midrange. And it'll work for outdoor audio systems like stuntwalls, power sports, and boats.

Which one is your best SQL woofer that rivals JL W7? I’m looking for a new woofer.

Yes I second the SQL from sound integrity. I don't think there is a better SQL woofer out there, at that price, that I have ever seen or heard of. Good luck getting one they are almost always on back order, they sell out quickly when they get their shipments in but they do discount it if you order it and wait if they are out of stock.

@@loaked3000 Im sure you just miss typed, the company name for those SQL subwoofers, it's Stereo Integrity. DD also has very good subwoofers. The 9500s are very loud, and still sound good. The 3500s were always the SQ line.

So 1mm xmax over the vo-m10 and fewer shorting rings for less money. Why on earth would you puck this over the vo-m10. Only visual difference is the surround but w surrounds work fine. Listing mms for the drivers would be nice along with other tsp so you could accurately model them against one another. For me wanting to play the 50-150range either driver should work fine but who knows what will work best

@JasonWW2000 front sub center console .5ft sealed. Literally only playing the 50-150hz range to bolster the lower midbass region that struggles with door mounted midbasses. I'm inclined to believe the vo-m10 would be more efficient at this over what appears to be a stiffer vo-w710. Power handling is kinda moot since it likely won't need much over 300w to integrate well. The vo-m10 is advertised as having triple shorting rings this new drivers isn't. Which leads me to believe the vo-w710 inductance being above 1. Not a terrible issue but it's impossible to model them correctly with the couple of tsp they give. I'm not an spl guy I'm looking for a Sq driver that can get decently loud and either of those drivers appear to fill the void but it makes no sense as to why the vo-w710 would be more expensive when they are practically copies of each other

The VO-W700 has a higher temp voice coil and a stiffer suspension allowing it to handle more power and play louder in the 35-1,000 hz range compared to a VO-M10. The VO-W700 has the same shorting rings in the motor, which is why it still plays up to 2khz. Full ts parameters aren't listed because they are very rarely accurate for high power systems. Measurements assuming perfect conditions in the 70s aren't equipped to accurately predict the performance of modern drivers on over 100× the power available at the time.

@@kylevanwinkle2081Yep, that's the only application I can think of. Small, sealed, up front subs seem extremely rare in today's car audio scene. I'm running one, but still, very rare unless your really into SQ.

@@kylevanwinkle2081 I will say, in your application the softer suspension of the VO-M10 would work much better.
