Man, my phone always knows what I'm thinking about. I've been thinking about learning manuals, and this random, obscure, perfectly appropriate video pops up haha. Also, you're a drummer aren't you? I recognize that K anywhere🤙

Just a small observation from someone who's driven a manual for over 25 years, do your best to only be on the clutch pedal when you're actually shifting gears. Avoid holding it at a light or at a stop. The pressure plate and throw out bearing will thank you. Hope you get that fuel line fixed as well.

Look up videos on clutch control shifting is easy but understanding the clutch is what you really need. I was riding motorcycles since i was 8 and immediately picked up manual cars(technically semis so double clutch) because knowing the clutch is most important. Your car should technically start in first without any gas (not that you would really need it on road). Also you dont even need the clutch to shift, floating is a good skill to learn just incase the clutch goes

Yep. I am helping him learn to drive. He has basically no experience in this video, but he is a lot better now. This was recorded back in April last year. I only just now got around to editing this video because I have a 1 year old and don't have much time for editing! Thanks for watching and he's reading the comments for tips 🫡

It’s honestly something that fun. I got my first car about 9 months ago and love it.

Just a few quick tips for when to shift and what gear to use: For just getting around normally it's totally ok to shift around 2,000 RPM or a bit earlier depending on your engine's torque. Make sure to always accelerate as quickly and smoothly as possible to your target speed and then choose the corresponding gear that allows you to hold that speed at an as-low-as-possible RPM without the engine starting to studder or feel rough. If you need to accelerate again, drop a gear or two and also depress the gas pedal fully. That way the throttle valve is fully open and the engine management unit can calculate the optimal fuel amount to inject. When standing at a hill, don't ever use the clutch instead of the brakes to hold your car there. This'll take thousands of miles of lifespan off of the clutch. When going downhill try shifting into a lower gear and letting your car roll in gear then. The engine will then brake for you without you having to apply the actual brakes all the time. All that is left for me now is to wish you great fun in learning how to drive stick! The really cool stuff like blipping the gas while downshifting, heel+toe or double clutching, comes later.
