Yup, bathing a cat the first day home is traumatic but you’ll learn. The cat is loved and wanted and that’s the most important thing. Looks like Buddy is in a good home 😍

Generally when you get cats from an adoption agency through places like PetSmart the agency makes sure they are up to date on all vaccines and flea treatments before the adoption takes place so you don’t have to do this when you take the cat home and the cat can just adjust to it’s new environment.

Other than that, daily brushing and some foam dry shampoo is more than effective in keeping your cat’s coat healthy and clean. The best way to keep a cats coat Healthy and clean is daily grooming with a brush and feeding them a well-rounded diet. It seems you're pretty new to owning a cat. Keep in mind that this seems like a young cat still so it might still grow a bit. (It might out grow the cage) I hope your cage/benz is not meant for the entire day/night cats after all like to roam around and need to in order to lose their energy/ playtime helps with that too. If you want more cat tips and knowhow look up Jackson Galaxy he has stuff here on KZread. Oh and just in case please do not declaw your cat because it's like cutting off a finger. If he does scratch the furniture you could get scratching pads or wrap a t shirt (something that smells like you so he'll recognise it) around a 'new' scratching post. I’ve never owned a pet before but adopted Tuesday. I could tell my kitty hated the car ride home so when we got home, I let him out and just let him explore on his own. The first three days at least are all about just letting your kitty be comfortable. I’m sure you’ve heard this enough by now though.

Because I am thinking about buying one from pet smart but I want to make sure I have enough because I have to drive 2 hours to a pet smart, and also, did you have to sign the paper work and then go back another day and get it or can you just sign the papers the same day you get it?

Hinoe thats true it depends on the cat. Some cats actually don’t mind water. Most hate it though lol because it erases their scent. Notice that any cat after a bath will spend hours licking itself. He/she is just trying to get their scent back. That’s how they navigate through scent. The build bonds through scent. It’s best to just let baby groom himself. Unless it’s hairless. If it’s hairless it needs a bath once a week

Please never bathe a cat again unless its covered in like paint or something

That is just cruel and cats aren’t even supposed to sleep in a cage. Three, did you see the way they were knocking on the glass? Cats are already scared of humans enough without them knocking and making loud noise. Hope you got a better understanding.

I've been thinking about getting a cat. I knew about not bathing a cat but isnt better to leave the cat alone and let it adjust to the new home on its own? Like leave it in a room with the door open and when it wants to come out let it decide. It just seems like they were making the cat more nervous by applying to much attention to it. From what ive seen it seems like a cat will get your attention when it needs or wants it. Or am i wrong about that?

No, people aren't complaining about that. The cat was obviously stressed. Being in a new environment and suddenly getting bathed while still not knowing what everything is around it. They left the tap running which made the cat more stressed. Yes, people do bathe their cat but they did it about straight after they got their cat. I get that they're new at being a cat parent but we just wanted to point that out so they don't do the mistake again. If you still fight against this, talk to someone that actually hates them.

You should NEVER give a cat a bath when you just adopted them and bought him or her home one the first day. This can cause alot of Stress. You should’ve let them get used to the environment because this is a new place for the cat. He or she also doesn’t need a bath unless its for a special reason like maybe they are dirty or hadn’t had one in about 6 months. Some cat breeds may need a bath because for example you get a long haired cat it could hove some feces on the fur on the butt area. BUT PLEASE DO NOT EVER GIVE YOUR CAT A BATH ON THE FIRST DAY. I do hope this helps future cat parents and you should always research :)

Even if you want to bathe the cat first just bathe him in the sink and wet his body exept is head. First, put a mat in the sink then turn on the water and use the exact same water temperature for babys so you don't overheat him. Once you wet his body then apply the soap and wash and it properly to prevent skin irratation and then give him a treat in the memory of bath time

Sooo, a good advice for yall. Grab a bucket or like a big cup, fill it with room temp water, and then carefully and gently poor it on the cat. That way its quiet, gentle, and isn't as scary as shoving a cat first time at a new home in a bathtub with loud running water : D and on top of that blow drying. Just use a towel. Other than that I think the cat is fine but would have been better if it was treated a bit differently.

So I’m just gonna put my 2 cents in, but it’s your very first time getting car right. You bring you cat home and the FIRST thing you do is put him in the tub to bathe him... it’s your cat first time knowing you and your house. He doesn’t know where he is or who you are. You need to let him explore your home as well as you so he could better get to know you. You just stressed him out so bad that he could lead to diseases later down the road if you continue to treat as like this.

This is not ok Bc first of all u can’t bathe the cat when u first get home it has to settle in for a while and they clean themselves if u really wanna bathe a cat just use a cloth but it can burn their skin. My other reason is why put it in a cage it’s Been in the cage for a while and yet it’s gonna be in a cage like u have to let it Rome around ur house for awhile 😐

What the heck?!?! You don not bathe a cat, especially on their first day home. You keep them to a room for a few days and spend lots of time with them bonding. Not traumatizing them. 😭 The poor baby! Those were not happy meows!

You have to look at videos on how to wash a cat you can’t have the water running because it scares them
