Love, love, love the Pavilion! My husband has been building us one at our Summer House (aka: cottage property) but he is doing it himself. Last year he started with the footings, then he hurt his back. He had already bought all of the material! He is going to work on it all summer. We are not putting a fireplace in ours! He is calling ours a pergola. I like pavilion better. 😊 He built one around our hot tub and we love it! He put coolaroo shades around it on three sides and a barn door at the entrance to keep the wind, rain, sun, snow out/off and it works like a charm. Also provides for privacy. Looking forward to seeing the finished look!! A reason to throw a cook out! The unveiling of the pavilion!!

Yeah you always need a permit, but usually the contractor gets one. But that could be cuz its residential idk.

Ugh! Contractors! I would also make sure they provide you with a lien waiver proving they paid for the materials, otherwise you could be on the hook to pay the supplier if they do not. That pavillion ceiling is 🔥 - absolutely gorgeous! We had the same ceiling on our pavillion! If you don't want it to weather, make sure you put on a non yellowing sealer and it will stay looking new for years. On a happier note, your new furniture looks great in your media room - definitely very comfy and perfect for getting cozy on movie nights.

This doesn't sound like it's your fault at all. My father was a contractor for 30 years, the builder is responsible for the permit. The cost of the permit should have been included in the estimate.

So did you pull down the video yesterday to cut out the permit part?

Usually the contractor will get the permit. Typically the person who pulls the permit is responsible for construction following the code. Since you pulled the permit, you will be considered the contractor (at least in the eyes of the city) and liable if there is a construction problem. Why is your husbands back to the beautiful view and window in his office? If I was him I would want to face the window and have a view to look at everyday. 😀 When you showed us your permit you also showed us your address. I would be a little careful with showing your home address on social media. There are a lot of weirdos on the internet.

Thanks for pointing that out … I always question Brian about the placement of his desk too. He didn’t want to face the window I am not the contractor… according to the city, I’m the homeowner & the contractors name and all his information is on the permit ….. they asked me all the questions yesterday …

Angie, My husband and sons have been contractors forever. In their proposals, it will say that a permit is included. Oftentimes, the homeowner will want to pull their own permit. I don’t know if they don’t trust them or think they are making a profit🙄! The good contractors often get a bad rap for the bad ones. I know your dad will tell you. Right now so much money is owed to our business because there are a lot of deadbeats out there who will not pay when the job is done! Just needed to vent! Can’t wait to see your finished pavilion! I want one!

It's a shame you have to have a permit to do something at your house. Sad.
