vlog 49. My *Productive* Morning Routine as a Lawyer/Advocate: Autumn/Winter | Loyiso Makapela
I promised you guys a video featuring my morning routine after it was requested in my last IG Q&A (IG: loyiso_makapela).
One of my favourite quotes from Atomic Habits is one that states that “every action you take is a vote for the person you wish to become”. And this is ever so true in relation to the daily actions we choose to take each morning. They determine what the rest of our days will look like, and a sum total of our days basically determines what our lives will look like.
And so it comes as no surprise that a good morning routine is often the common denominator amongst people who consider themselves productive and fruitful.
My personal morning routine goes through various iterations through the changing seasons (whether those are literal seasons eg. winter/summer/spring/autumn, or the proverbial seasons of my job eg. court preparation weeks, drafting weeks, months of reading a lengthy record or chill months where nothing extraordinary is happening). Regardless, owing to the fact that I am not a naturally super motivated person, having an almost automated and predictable routine does wonders for my daily productivity.
If you have not designed/crafted your own already, I hope that this video inspires you to do so. Your future self will certainly thank you.

Lovely ❤️ I admire how effortlessly you take care of your hair and style it. I have noticed that you don’t style your hair in braids or wigs or so, and I really like that you don’t make wearing your own hair seem like a chore. I have always struggled to comfortably wear my natural hair and so always resort to wearing a wig or having braids, but I want to be more comfortable wearing my own hair and don’t want to feel like my hair “is not done” when I don’t have a wig or braids. I’d so love your thoughts and advice on maintaining and embracing African hair. Take good care. Blessings.

Thank you for the compliment. I've thought about how to answer the rest of your comment for a while and I don't think I can do it justice, or properly advise on this topic. But at the root of it all is that it is about caring more about your own opinion than that of others. What makes it uncomfortable is wondering what others think of your hair and whether it looks acceptable to them or not. Rid yourself of that burden and you'll start being patient to find hairstyles that suit you and make you feel beautiful. And the more you do that (beautify yourself and find yourself beautiful in your own eyes) is the more you will increase in confidence. Just as you took time to learn about braids and wigs and how to style them, do the same with your own hair until it becomes second nature to you.

I fell a while ago at a funeral, I was so embarrassed and couldn't stop crying and asked hub to take me back home. The tears wouldn't stop and he thought I was injured kante tears of embarrassment. Love your vlogs as always Mam❤ I really enjoy your breakfast inspo all the time😊

I also can’t believe he’s one hey!! They even classify him as an “adult” at the vet and I actually cannot deal😅
