Vlog 147: The Late Arvo Glass Run -

thought I'd put this up today, to make up for no uploads for a month.
Here we see one of Citywide’s 2 Superior PAK Side Arms, being #FN18052, I’ve dubbed this truck as ‘Merri-bek’s chop out truck’ as it is pretty common to see this truck on late arvo collections in Merri-bek after it handles the Recycle in the City of Melbourne. This is the second time I’ve filmed this truck in Merri-bek, the other was on FOGO (Vlog 143)
This day was completely stuffed, with 4 drivers away and 2 trucks breaking down, this resulted in late arvo collections and this driver being asked to do glass after completing his own run in City of Melbourne, FOGO was also really behind and wasn’t even collected, and ended up being collected the day after, Why they prioritized Glass over FOGO I have no idea.
Today we see this truck on a Glass run, and now brings the total amount of trucks to collect glass to 5, Being Trucks; #11482, #11485, #FN15062, #FN18052, & #FN21007. This truck is huge, a massive 35m, definitely big for glass haha, This is actually the second time I’ve filmed at 35m Spak on Glass, The other time was In Hobsons Bay over a year ago, being truck #SLO0889. This truck is an ex demo unit, all other info on it can be found in my description of Vlog 143.
Enjoy this short 3min video, I was really tired and it was a hard chase, as it was a fairly hilly area and not too many bins out, I’m happy I got something to document this rare occurrence. I also added a clip of #11482 at the start, collecting 4 bins, as I had no other use for it.

I have always liked recycling primarily for the "glass" bottles that find their way to the recycling bin. I find this dedicated glass collection to be " next level" and even surpasses the appeal for the munch and crunch of bulk waste rear loaders. The sound of smashing glass is extremely satisfying to me. Excellent video Dave, well done 👏

Hi John 👋 I’m a big fan of the glass collection, and it’s always nice hearing glass smash from a few blocks away, especially when streets are quiet. I quite like this Dennis unit, this is some of the latest collections I have seen and filmed, looks like we might do it all again today haha. Thanks for commenting and glad you enjoyed.

@Merri-bekGarbo I am a big fan of the Dennis in all its forms but the drivers don't seem to like them. I am very happy that you will be filming glass again and hopefully often in the future. Have a great day Dave 😀

@@aussiejohn5835 from what I’ve seen, you can only like a Dennis if it’s all you have ever driven, this driver is quite a fan and likes. it, it can be hard to adjust from a higher cab such as an Iveco or hino, personally I quite like Dennis, but prefer the older cab style.

@Merri-bekGarbo You are correct and from my experience driving buses, the differences in vehicles required a whole new learning process and especially the changes in sight lines and peripheral vision and awareness of blind spots and overall vehicle response. There is more to driving a heavy vehicle than most would expect 😳

Amazing amazing amazing. I love the smash with the glass, i especially like it with a dennis because the sound of the truck doesnt block out To much of the smash. Well done great video, on the holidays can you film a bit in Maribyrnong please?! Thanks

Thanks mate, glass is always fun, hearing glass smash for far away. I quite like a Dennis handling it. Maribrynong is on the list, I’m doing Moonee Valley tommrow and Melbourne on Friday, might come to Maribrynong on the 8th of Jan.

I honestly think 82 is a better truck than 85 for glass 85 should be on mixed recycling

82 goes pretty good on glass, and I agree that 85 should do mixed recycle, I'm not sure why they prefer to use 85 on glass as almost every area you could do in 1 (maybe 1 and a 1/2) on a 22m. 82 is a bit of a 'floater' unit, and is regularly used on FOGO or Garbage.
Great video, are u the first person to film a superior pak on merribek glass?

I Defiantly am! too my knowledge this is the first time a Superior PAK has done glass in the whole council, as In-house has a newish Volvo/Gen6 Combo doing it, Unless they have had a older spare Acco Spak do it, this would be the first time.
What ivecos are left with in-house?

Not 100% sure. I’ll go past the depot today or tomorrow and confirm I know there is definitely Old 1, 18, 19, 22 (ex 7) 23 (ex 8) I believe there is ex 10, which is possibly 20 and ex 9 possibly 21. I think they might have a single axle left possibly.
