I'm a cyclist (in a city in North America, where cycling is popular). The biggest problem I see with road cyclists is impatience in an urban setting. When you are on a road bike, riding in the city, you have to really ride like an urban cyclist, which means slow, giving priority to pedestrians, yielding to all traffic regulations and signs and being very anticipatory of someone screwing up. A child may run into the street, cross over the lane they are riding in or just not look where they are going, just like some pedestrians. Many road cyclists are too impatient to reach 30-40km/hr, but you really mustn't do that until you are on the open road with no one behind or in front of you. This is why I quit riding in my cycling club. The riders do not slow down in an urban setting, blast through red lights and stops and pull ahead so much that others in the group start to do the same. On a road bike, you must ride in "urban mode" when you enter the city and use hand signals. When you do, drivers react to you differently. Doing this on a typical 45-minute urban ride, I can also usually avert 2-3 accidents or "near misses" from people on road bikes or kids screwing up and venturing into the bike lane, or cars that do not see you. Some people in kits riding road bikes, will just get frustrated riding behind you at 20km/hr, pass you dangerously, and then you'll see them in a near miss, again.

I have been cycling for 25 years. Riding all kinds of bikes and meeting many people thru cycling. So far I realised that road cycling in a group attracts certain character types, especially into performance, data, big egos, status..etc..Those roadies who are more chill usually cycle solo avoiding all the drama.

Great vid bro once again. It's the same feeling like that in Singapore. Drivers are feeling that cyclists are snobbish because of the fancy gear and the bling bling bikes. But then again most of the riders are drivers too... Just be resaonable on the bike groups here in SIngapore, they can get really big and that does make the riders blending with the drivers a little stressful. The fair statement that i can say is that in any fact of life, there are the good and bad, don't need to pin all the evil on the cyclists.... See you soon on the next vid. Ride safe.

Tks Melvin for the wonderful content. The scenery is really soothing, as always. If I may add some comments, it’s a few rotten apples that spoil the bunch: 1. From a non-cyclist’s point of view: the ‘less-considerate’ pelotons that use a lot of road lanes at a time 2. The “woe! Woe! Woe!..” shouting from some pro-wannabes in a peloton → that is public road, not some exclusive race track 3. The nouveau riche jackaššes that brag about how much they can afford (this is a real story as I myself & some friends had encountered). This is not exclusively in cycling only, as some nouveau riche are in other hobbies. They will try as hard as they can to elevate their ‘caste’ without respecting the rules Just my 2¢. Wish to ride with you sometimes! 👌

Everytime the same road are being shared by trucks, cars, motorbike and bicycle there are bound to be conflict with each other. Cycling lane hog by motorbike, motorbike cilok wherever there is space, cars being the majority feel entitled, trucks driving too fast or too slow on highway, cyclist going parallel instead of single file. There are always bad eggs everywhere that causes negative perception to the others. We just have to learn how to live with each other

Hey melvin, thanks for featuring my comment, Totally agree on your view regarding the perceptions of Cyclist being arrogant entitled snobs i have personally experienced Toxic Road cyclist multiple times and had bad impression on them which was exacerbated by Social media highlgihts (it was the height of the pandemic and there was alot of cyclist on the road) But thanks to melvin, He opened my mind and made me try road cycling..... and i never looked back hope i can one day join you on one of your kayuh sessions side note,. Just a suggestion for next topic, probably possible to touch on bicycle care and maintenance checks (since many cyclist are returning after a long hiatus) or do a Gag episode where Roadies try Mtb/BMX/Motorbiking

@@melvintanchannel went to Genting sempah (22/6/24) Met with a gang of less than desireable cyclist(about 20 of them) - Lets just say that they hogged both lanes and were not very friendly when others advise them that the road is shared. But the great news is Most of the road pavement works is done and 70% buttery smooth.

Agree with you, but if you turn your bike upside down and get mushy brake afterward, then it means there is air bubble inside brakeline. A brake line bleed would cure this.

This is not just some isolated scenario, it a worldwide phenomenon most motorists hate cyclists.

i never recommend rider with weight more than 80 kilo to do bunny hop. if you 50 60 70 it is ok do bunny but up 79 it red light already 80 is danger. it worst can split carbon top tube i saw people split their carbon bike before. because we wearing jersey bib shoes shock plus food phone tools it can jump total weight to 2-4 kilo.
