Back when the USSR dissovled, Ukraine was stuck with so many nukes that they were for a very short time the third largest nuclear power in the world. They gave them back to russia with the promise of russia recognizing all ukrainian territories. Guess how good that promise was.. When Boris Yeltsin wanted to create the russian federation, he said it was gonna be built on democracy, which utterly failed 2 years later with Boris ordering the attack on parliament.
