Front 1080p camera on Vivo is looking way better then 4K on Pixel... Strange...

Finally the first clear camera comparison between these two phones. I find it very suspicious why no other reviewer has released such a video comparison yet. When Vivo X90 Pro plus came out the first comparison i was expecting was against Google Pixel 7 but nope it feels like it was avoided. Anyway X90 Pro Plus looks like the king of night photos but just that. Pixel 7 Pro has a bit more serious processing and consistent performance when it comes to every day photo and video shooting even though that doesn't mean they are always likeable or social media ready.

Oh wow the Vivo is absolutely amazing! It basically doesn't even need night mode lol Great comparison as always! Can't wait for the comparisons between the Vivo and the S22 Ultra and the 13 Pro Max

If anyone’s wondering, he’s using the Vivid color mode to take photos with the Vivo, which is why photos look oversaturated. Not sure why he’s done that. Shooting with the Zeiss natural color will look far better (similar to the colors on the Pixel).

It's actually the default on the camera. You can enable "Zeiss natural color" if you want a more flat color profile. I've shown this in my X70 Pro+ videos and wanted to add them here, but would have made the video too long. May try in a future video. Initial shots with it didn't show as much difference as I saw in the X70 Pro+. Also, "better" depends on each person's preferences.

@@GrantLikesTech It's OK, no worries! Perhaps it's worth mentioning that the samples are from the vivid mode, so people wouldn't be confused as to why the Vivo looks so oversaturated.

Hey man! Great video. What would you recommend today? Vivo v30 or pixel 8 pro?

I think Vivo is doing it big right now in the flagship and midrange game. No other company is really impressing me more right now. Gotta get 4k on that front camera. Not sure why foreign OEMs are continuing to not add it. Not a deal breaker for me though.

Wow ser, the Pixel still photography is still tops for me. The Vivo is showing real potential. I hope they don’t neglect this phone and offer some solide camera updates over the next few months.

Both great phones but just wish Pixel had upgraded their front camera and fixed whatever issue it has with the blurry lens. Also having option to change between the normal and telephoto in the camera when zooming rather it doing it auto/randomly at times. Hopefully bigger and better lenses on Pixel 8.

You're very good at this. The Vivo low light shots are next level and the day pics really jumped off the page as well however if you're a content creator, or just shoot a lot of selfie video, then the Pixel is the clear choice. The audio pickup on the Pixel front video was impressive. I could clearly hear water running on the video by the building while the Vivo didn't pick it up at all.

Google has never really played the spec game with any of their sensors. They have chosen to code their way out of their limitations. Which is why managed to us an outdated sensor for YEARS and still produce amazing pictures.

@@darpinian1 I agree that their camera software is amazing (I own a 6 Pro), but it can only do so much. I watch a lot of camera comparison videos and the Pixel ultrawide camera often produces the noisiest images, mainly at night. Night mode can help clear the noise but then the sharpness and detail remain pretty poor. The competition have all stepped up to bigger sensors and it's noticeable.

@@mrfragger87 I agree. My primary phone is a pixel. I believe that Google just put the camera in but haven't given it enough time to bake. Once it does, once they put enough time into their computational photography it will fall in line. The Pixel does a lot of things right. But it's not a complete product. It could be fixed with higher quality hardware but there is no reason to believe they can't solve this with software as well.

Thanks, appreciate the support. Shutter isn't as fast as Pixel probably due to a larger sensor and taking in/processing more data. I don't have issues with moving subjects, but I can tend to get used to shooting with most phones regardless of the shutter speed.

That supposedly are planning a global version, but those have been tough to get in past years at least here in the US.

Vivo x90 pro plus is a cameraphone of the moment. I think is very difficult to beat fot this 2023.. grat work Vivo 👏

Great comparison. There are some vidoes about Vivo X90 (non Pro) vs Pro or vs Pro Plus on youtube (especially by Taiwense youtubers). It's very apparent that Vivo has lot's of problems with focus and colour on the X90 Pro Plus for right now. Not only on the Main 1" Sensor but also on the 2x Zoom sensor. Some reviews went so far as to call it a draw between the X90 and the X90 Pro when it comes to the camera. On the X90 Vivo so far seems to have nailed it and it would actually be pretty interesting to see if the Pixel 7 Pro can beat the vanilla X90 except for the zoom section (the X90 has a weaker 2x sensor, and misses the 3.5x sensor). The vanilla x90 is hardware wise quite similar in sensor quality to the Pixel 7/7 Pro bare the zoom. I would also be interested in the battery life of X90/V90 Pro Plus vs Pixel 7 Pro. The real question is - who has more potential in the future? Will Vivo manage to get the big sensor into proper quality or will google in the future still up their game when it comes to AI while Vivo maybe misses out on improving much in the future? Software wise the 7Pro trumps the Vivo X90 series - that's for sure. Battery life I would guess the vanilla X90 actually comes out best (the screen is only 1260P so saves a lot of power vs 1440P of the X90 Pro+ according to reviews - while still being excellent. Quite a few reviwers preferred it because it hits the sweetspot (it's better than the E6 at 1080P mode for sure). But what about the Pro+. If you live in Taiwan or China the Vivo Pro+ costs the same as the Pixel 7 Pro - so it's pretty tough to decide. In Europe or US it's the 7Pro for sure. But the Vivo X90 could be the new midlevel king taking over for Pixel 7. It seems to be nearly as good as the X90 Pro+ - while being sold around 500USD right now in China - pricing in Europe/USA of course is not fixed yet (but it will likely fall while Pixel series will not become much cheaper before October 2023). In China the X90 is clearly the new midlevel champion (it beats the Xiaomi 13 Pro everywhere - while being much cheaper. Xiaomi 13 (Pro) is a big disappointment right now.

Is there a way to fix the audio on the Vivo? It was clearly worse on the back cam video. Not the best on the front but at least it's audible.

The Night shots on the Vivo are really really good.

That vivo front camera shot outdoors in the beginning really messed up the sky in between branches with overblown white while blue elsewhere.

Great comparison. The cinematic video on the vivo is a lot better, and the regular night shots are amazing on the vivo as well.

I think Vivo's X90 Pro Plus cameras will get better after a few software updates can you do a future video vs pixel 7 pro again after some updates?

I have the Google Pixel 7 Pro and Love it.

the vivo has a really nice almost camera-like look to it that i really enjoy. but still enough saturation and punchiness (almost a bit too much sometimes especially with the greens). looks like it isn't quite as consistent and reliable as the pixel. hard to tell which one i prefer overall but i love the direction vivo is taking. especially as a photographer i appreciate the possibilities it leaves you in terms of editing etc.

4k video from rear camera on vivo is REALLY oversharpened. It looks like whole scene is deep fried lol also its way too bright (probably preferred look in Asian market). But in the same time very impressive lowlight performance, probably best camera for lowlight shooting. Its sad that we don't have global sliders for saturation, sharpness or exposure compensation in settings. I would hate to click and slide brightness down 24/7 on my phone. Apple filters are step in right direction, I hope that in future we will have finetune controls in every camera. Could you test if Zeiss natural colors work on video more and fixes issues I mentioned?

No Zeiss color option for video, but you can use pro mode

The cinematic mode on the pixel looks so absurd unnatural. In general what I noticed sometimes without cropping in the Pixel photos look like they have more details but I think thats because they are are oversharpened, but if you crop in you can see that the Vivo photos have actually more details. Vivo at night is unbeatable in photography, it is such a big advantage that you don't necessarily need night mode as for moving subjects using night mode is a problem. The Vivo has some minor problems here and there especially at night time video, but you can see the potential it has and most things are fixable with software updates, so Vivo has the possibility to fix that, whereas the Google seems to hit the ceiling with their hardware

Pixel is still king but the front video of the vivo is amazing, you can't beat the hdr, detail and natural colour rendition on the pixel 7p, night mode was pretty close but the vivo edges slightly with larger sensor

Does Vivo have ZSL in low light when night mode is turned off? Is the capture instant or does it automatically take a longer exposure?

@@GrantLikesTech I think that's worth mentioning in the video because it gives the impression that Vivo has way brighter exposure with no night mode, even though it's not really comparable to the Pixel since it's not using ZSL.

i find is strange how on daylight the pixel has more details, should have try 2-3 shoots with HD mode which uses the full mp and gives better details to see how it compares

The Vivo has the larger sensor and can therefore capture significantly more light, the images are usually brighter and have more details, especially in the dark. However, the photos are much more appealing and beautiful in medium light and high light from the pixel, because the software is simply much better. Actually, the Vivo should have better depth of field due to the larger sensor, but since they put their bad software on top to increase the effect, the edges are often not cut out cleanly and areas that are actually further forward are still blurred. With the Pixel, the portraits just look fantastic, despite the smaller sensor. Google doesn't need the best sensors to take the best photos, as you can see with the Pixel 6a. The sensor is only 1/2.55 inch small and still the pictures are not much worse than the Pixel 7 Pro. The Vivo pictures are of course also very good and definitely better than the Xiaomi 12s Ultra, but the overall picture of the Pixel is still more appealing. I would still be interested in what Google can get out of an IMX 989 sensor. But I would never buy a Pixel because there are too many other things that bother me. But great camera!

Is it just me, or FHD from the Vivo looks sharper than 4K from the Pixel? Either way, the most important, at least to me, is the main camera and you can't beat Google's computational photography, and I don't think anyone ever will, if Google keeps evolving their camera software. Feels like others have to brute force their way into great photography with the best possible hardware, mostly. And they still can only get "close" to Google or about at the same level in some cases.

Doesn't look like it. The Dolby/HDR icon isn't showing, but the picture quality looks very good with the "visual enhancement" display feature. Looks better to my eyes compared to the iPhone 14 Pro that does support Dolby/HDR in Netflix.

The Cinematic 1080P on the vivo is day and night better than the 4K cinematic on the pixel 7 pro. I wish you used the Zeiss color profile on the vivo as the default one is so saturated and far from natural, maybe next time as most pple don't know that the Zeiss profile has a natural look. I hated the fact that the vivo x90 pro plus front camera is only 1080p instead of 4K 60fps. It's a joke for a flagship in 2023. All in all, the pixel is the best over all for point and shoot and also way cheaper, especially used. I thank you for the great effort and dedication. Fantastic video as always.

quite amazing that the pixel 7 pro still looks like a leader in 4k night video on the main lens. i noticed alot of focus issues on the vivo

Great comparison! Thank you for the great work. Can't wait for a comparison with iPhone and Samsung. I don't think you used Zeiss natural colors on Vivo. The colors looked too contrasty in your review. But i think generally I liked Vivo the most. Low light performance is amazing. In some pics pixel had a bit more over sharpened image that looked like it had more details and in some pics Vivo due to the large sensor couldn't easily focus in small objects I noticed. But when it could focus the bokeh was amazing. How was the shutter speed in Vivo? Is it fast like in pixel? Can you shoot fast moving objects easily?

Thanks, I may try to add some shots with Zeiss mode in a future video since many people are asking about it. I did it in my X70 Pro+ videos, but would have mode this one too long. Is that pixel 7 pro doing beautification in video? The smoothness of the skin is unnatural.. Can it be turned off?

yeah so in day time the pixel 7 pro is a winner, but the vivo falls behind, but at night its not even a question the vivo takes the cake. Gotta hand it to you tho grant i had fun tryna piece together which one was better based on your samples.

Audio on Pixel is so damn good!

vivo X90 Pro Plus are miles ahead of any smartphones by photo quality! And no doubt it photography king 👑

It is the pixel 7 pro.

Pixel: Video overall (Surprised how crap the Potrait shots look) Vivo: Photos; Potrait Videos and in realy dark scenerys it takes video Vivo´s HDR is just insane (not in video but in photos, in video the pixel takes it) Surprised about the sharpness in cropped images its sometimes vivo sometimes google. But in potrait VIVO kicks ass of the pixel, its like night and day difference, also zoom is quite good on the vivo, in the first zoom scenery vivo was cleary ahead, after that it was also give or take, google had a more natural look, in night vivo also took it. But vivo has a clear advantage it can change a lot more settings and has a high res mode on all 4 lenses.

Agree, Vivo zoom is possibly the best I've used so far. Also, there is an option to enable their "Zeiss natural color" mode for less saturated/warmer tones.

not sure which phone you're asking about, but I'm a big fan of haptics too. pixel 7 haptics are up there with pixel 4xl. not quite as deep & "thumpy" but really really good. has that deep bass thud like the pixel 4xl. snappy but deep. very nice. if the pixel 4xl haptics are 10/10 the pixel 7 would be a 9/10 imo. I haven't used the vivo myself.

Vivo is using better optics which is visible. I cant imagine how good it would have been with vivo's optics and google's camera processing.

Vivo has extremely underated cameras
