Vivarium Overhaul!!
Үй жануарлары мен аңдар
Take your vivarium to the next level!!!
Its been long overdue for this tank to recieve a proper overhaul. I gutted the entire thing to start from scratch, ripping out the old background and the old substrate, and Redid the backgrond using the Compressed cork panel method, and did substrate free with the sponge filter mat.

My face lit up when ‘6 months later’ popped up! Absolutely love how this tank matured!

I'm excited! I really want to do my research before I can commit to having frogs as pets. I'm learning a lot about tank preparation from you!
First time seeing the cork panel method! It looks very natural. Where do you source the black cork panel?
Nice….😊 One thing is like to see that you haven’t covered yet is showing how you drill and plumb your tanks … maybe include it in your next rebuild !
Great video, great setup, great advice.

Hell yeah brother. Im gonna try the cork next go around.
Awesome job Troy!!! When you said you were going to overhaul the tank I thought you were just going to replant it differently. Once again you showed a new technique and built an awesome vivarium. Nice work you always are stepping up your skills. Happy Frogging.

Your works are always beautiful. Simple, elegant, balanced, natural, effective. An excellent result in a few skilful steps. I tried to make a terrarium, luckily without frogs, spending relatively more than expected, good in theory but with many problems and a mediocre aesthetic result. Congratulations, you are very good and you have great skills👏👏👏

I always wondered how you would strip down a vivarium to start it over like this. Everyone says it’s possible but I have yet to see anyone else actually do it
Looks great Troy! I was inspired by Abunchoftanks to use the cork background too.
Just subscribed excellent content. Top work.

The cork will only last a very minimal amount of time. It is eaten by the insects and the rest rots away. I did that 25 years ago. Greetings from Germany

In your video on lighting that you did a few years back you mentioned a knock off version of the Jungle Dawn lights. Do you have a link or name I can look into?
Troy what’s your recommendation on using UVB light for poison fart frogs. I’m starting to get into the hobby and I’m getting confounding information. Currently I have 3 cinnamon tree frogs (I know they are not dart frogs) that I keep with a UVB light, and 2 azureus froglets that I keep in a grow out bin with no UVB light. Should I move them into enclosure with uvb light too or is it okay to keep them without it as froglets?
@TroyGoldberg

You said fart 😜…. I don’t think it’s NEEDED, that said I use uvb on several Oophaga tanks for a couple hours a day.

I bought some off of Amazon but they had a smoky scent. I think they were called soundproof cork paneling
old school back ground looks great. Super saturated (wet). Is that a good thing? No rot or mold issues? No foot rot on the animals? how often do you drain out the tank to remove extra water and keep it from flooding? I like the false bottom, but I didn't see a drain. What your trick? #TotsNewby
@TroyGoldberg
10 ай бұрын
Look closer there’s a drain… tank is always draining, never backs up, a lot of the clips were taken after a fresh misting, the leaf litter dries out inbetween misting cycles. The tanks have good ventilation. No rot, no mold, no foot rot

How much do cork panels last? Im keen on using them but dont know if insects will degrade it quickly.
Would that foam false bottom have to be cycled periodically? Or do you just siphon out the water? I’ve never seen this before and would be interested in trying it out. Thanks.
I noticed you don't use soil or ABG but rather put moss and leaves directly on the sponge filter. Where do the isopods and springtails live? I though they needed soil to live, but maybe that's not always true?
Where do you get that moss that’s growing all over the logs ?? I’ve been trying. To find it.

@@TroyGoldberg How thick are the slabs your using? Currently viewing some on a local website, no additives and they have an example of laying them under rooftiles, 50-60 years of lifespan without loosing its properties. This one is only 3cm thick though and your’s looks about 4-5.
Serious question..Is there any danger of the frogs impaling themselves on the toothpicks tho? And how you keep or do you even..keep springtails and ispods on the foam pads? I was under the impression they're a requirement and alao required a soil base... i feel big dumb all of a sudden🤣
@TroyGoldberg
10 ай бұрын
I do usually break the tips of the tooth picks so they’re not pointy. Spring tails don’t need soil… the need humidity and food(mold)… they are loaded amongst the leaf litter.
