Such a joy to play yet incredibly hard not to seem boring to the audience, which was the case even with this interpretation to me. No offense to the performers, I respect them a lot (even played with Veriko a while ago and she blew my mind), but this felt underprepared and just not energetic at all. It's alright as something that they probably sat together for an hour for but as an interpretation to take seriously it lacks a lot.

From a Jascha Heifetz - Nathan Milstein private artist-pupil ~ Veriko T. was and is, in my considered opinion, a rare musician with deep emotions waiting to be employed and in the Final Stage of the Wieniawski Int'l Violin 2016 Competition, the Shostakovich Violin Concerto no. 1 in a minor, Op.99, was the perfect vehicle for only 20 years of age yet closing in on 45 in maturity, Veriko Tchumburidze, to utilize & let much of her interior out in Shostakovich's Monumental Score which really is his Emotional Diary saved up from long years of oppression and utter frustration plus ~ To those admirer's of Bomsori Kim, your admiration is very well placed yet when on a Giant World Stage, sweet only violin playing without a wide understanding of the 'uglies' of Life, are no longer sufficient to convince All ... Shostakovich's First Violin Concerto in a minor has gained "Hollywood-like' star attraction, but Buyer/Player Beware!!! Without the Weight of understanding acquired by having Lived It, those attempting to interpret this Shostakovich Monument will seem shallow to warriors of the World of Grand Violin and Music Making. When selecting specific clothing for ourselves, we know after years of trial runs, what works for us! The same principle holds true for choice of violin repertoire & certainly in a major widely known International ViolinConcours on the European Continent!! No one Lost!! All participant's Won in varying ways which may never publiclybe known but rest assured, each competitor in the 2016 Wieniawski Int'l Violin Competition is miles ahead from their Start Point, and each competitor entering for pure musical growth reason's knows now & knew their weaknesses + strengths if truly Honest!!! Perhaps Maxim Vengerov had plenty to think about when listening to both Veriko T. andBomsori Kim, yet he 'played' his Chairman of the Jury role splendidly excepting an incident which rocked all in closegeographical proximity, but only temporarily and made a 'First to Do It' decision just following the Competition Prize Announcements! Throwing his Fiddle & Bow 'Hat' into the Ring was both Politick & Fun with 'Long term Job Security'! Time Always Tells, so watch and wait whilst supporting your Choice for The Top Prize but remember the profound words uttered by The Other Greatest Men's Tennis Player in the World ~ Rafael Nadal, who falling behind Federer, the No. 1 Player, told his lifetime Coach, his Uncle Toni, "Even if Roger Federer Wins, I Won't Lose ~" After the rain break of the 5 hour Match with One Set to go, amid growing darkness at Wimbledon, 'Rafa' Nadal won the winning volley, falling to the ground of Wimbledon Soil, in what was & still is an indescribable collision of "I Did It" Emotions! Thank you to KZread for the opportunity to respond ~ I greatly enjoyed writing about this! Submitted with Musical Greetings to All from America ~ Elisabeth Matesky

Very few violinists make a truly sweet sound on the E string. I am fairly sure that Bomsori Kim was cross with Vengerov (note the looks between them) because he succeeded better on E string notes giving them just a touch more length and sonority! I love this work. It has an element at one time upon competition and then again upon teamwork!

One of the things that makes Vivaldi such a fun composer to play is the way his music takes advantage of the most sonorous and resonant notes on a violin... Played by a novice, it feels dead and repetitive. In a great interpretation, it hit you right in the heart. All four mustered superb resonance from their instruments, and I interpreted the looks these two gave each others as a friendly understanding that this is indeed where it's at! There was not one cross look on that stage!

Wow, detailed articulation by young women Bomsori Kim and Veriko Tchumburidze is exceptional. Indeed, Women have more capacity for detailing nuances and that is what music is all about... This piece is reclaimed from zombilization of meaningless grayness in sound! Bravi! Thanks to Vengerov for featuring young promissing talents on the steep path to the success in music for any musician in the society that makes music devalued and makes majority of musicians to live under Oath to Poverty

Wonder if there were fiddlers of this ability in Vivaldi's time.
