Just had the surgery for a detached retina. It was an area located on the right side of my right eye. Day after surgery, I have very limited cloudy vision and have chosen a brest feeding pillow to hold my head in the face down position. It is science that has helped repair my vision. So I thank my doctor, staff and science-based research for this miracle. No magic dictator in the sky is required.

@@diamondobrien3040 Sorry to hear that. Do you have a total loss of vision in that eye? You may need a second procedure. Check your Doctors success rate, my Doctor was a 1 in 10 failure rate. So I chose the surgery.

I had a floater only vitrectomy in Feb 2023 - BEST THING EVER. Was quick.... There was no retina issue - just for floaters. No gas bubble, no face down.

I had mine over 10 years ago. They knocked me out for just a short period and told me that would happen but I'd come back to very quickly but still sedated. They said that was to put the ports into the eye and once they were done I'd wake right up and that's exactly how I remember it.

Did anyone who had a vitrectomy have to take atropine sulfate drops twice per day after your surgery? These are the drops that dilate your pupil. I had to take this along with two other drops after my surgery on March 9, 2024. The surgery went well and on my follow up on March 18, my ophthalmologist told me to stop taking all of the drops except one. It’s been ten days since I’ve taken the atropine drops but my pupil is still dilated. I don’t know if it’s too soon to be worried. My gas bubble hasn’t shrunk enough to know if my vision is better yet; I had a detached retina. My next follow up isn’t for another three weeks. I can call them but I was wondering if anyone else had to take atropine drops after their surgery.

I would like to know what determines which patients stay overnight and which patients go home the same day following surgery.

  • @hklaschka

Hello! We reached out to surgeons to find out! On a very high level, it's surgeon-specific and related to medical conditions and complexity. Factors include: is patient from outside of Winnipeg? Would patients prefer to stay? Are patients able to position themselves properly after surgery (if positioning is required). Some surgeons offer all patients the opportunity to stay overnight or go home.

@@user-hq4jz6lc9d very good. I live in Long Island New York and I had it done at Stony Brook Hospital. The Hospital is very big like New York City 🙂 . You don't feel a thing at all. I was sedated, and only took 45 minutes. The only thing after surgery your eye can be itchy. Try to put cold soft cold pack on it. It will take 4 to 6 weeks to see good. They put air bubbles in my eye, because my retina was not detached. You will be fine 🙏🏼

@@benedettocracolici197 Thank you much, Benedetto. I had to have a vitrectomy because of vitreal hemorrhage due to a botched repair on a torn retina. The vitrectomy was 12 March 2024. The next day I went back and they took the patch off my eye. I was disappointed that I could not see clearly yet at that time. My eye was left half full of air and half full of saline solution. I could see this line running horizontally across my field of view in that eye. Lol, it seemed like I had a bubble level in my eye. I joked that I could maybe fly an airplane without instruments, as I had my own, built-in 'artificial horizon' or even a 'turn and bank indicator'. 😎 The air bubble was expected to be absorbed by my body and the space filled with natural fluid from my body. The air bubble has gradually moved down as the space is filled with fluid. As of this writing, 17 March, the bubble is all but gone and my vision is nearly as clear as the other eye now. I do still have some black dot floaters in there yet. I'm wondering if they will settle out, as they seem to have the same durn specific gravity as the fluid, and just want to hang there. The surgeon told me to expect to get a cataract in that eye, which I guess is typical. Good luck to you!
