It took six days of shooting in Alaska, as well as two trips to the Pittsburgh, PA, corporate HQ of Union Switch & Signal (now Ansaldo STS).

the woman in the video dispatching looks like sarah palin.

David, she really does! She's a well-respected dispatcher for the ARR, and at the time of the filming (2012), she was the only female dispatcher there.

The employee at 08:29 did come to a complete stop and look in both directions before crossing tracks.

They just had to use Alaska 3010 AKA runaway train locomotive in this video.
