I have the Kask Lifestyle that looks a lot like this and in some bike shops I visited people joked why am I wearing a TT helmet in the city. It is a commuter helmet with a visor

I'll be the ten-thousandth person to say it, but it's so great to see Eganito back in form and in a position to fight for the podium at a World Tour stage race.

This stage was a *BANGER,* the TTT format is great. 🧨

@@luckyspurs Yes, TT is the most honest discipline. It's you your equipment and in this case your team vs the clock. Until the mother nature likes to have a word.

I need that visma giro helmet for my daily commute and trips to the grocery store. When riding with bags and luggage i NEED the 0,5 Watt saved on my head

We need more Team Time Trials in the pro peloton. Looks like fighter jets, can’t even imagine what it must feel like. So so cool

maybe there's more to this than that... computer generated what is most aero/producing least drag.. (in straight line), but i can't imagine the same drag efficacy is happening when rider has head up, or looking through a corner...

I can't see a super valid reason to ban the Visma helmet other than it looks ridiculous, but not that much more or less than that Poc goofy one I never remember the name of. I can't wait to see one show up at my local TT circuit races now.

According to the BBC News Channel UCI have said that "As a result, the head sock integrated into the TT5 helmet will no longer be permitted for use at events on the UCI international calendar, effective from 2 April 2024."

IF a TT is the "race of truth" then just have the riders wear normal helmets. It's gotten ridiculous at this point and I question how much protection the TT helmets even provide, which is their actual intended purpose.

100% they should ride with normal helmets, this isnt some obscure track cycling record attempt, these wacky helmets make the sport look like a laughing stock.

No mention of Rudy TT helmet? That was another big one that got overlooked. EF also looked like they reigned their helmet design and not using the POC Tempor (considered the first wide helmet design) and moved to a more realistic one that more closely resembles their new road helmet. The helmet I am most confused about is Trek's. They aren't sponsor-correct or are left unpainted for a reason and this isn't a one-off occurrence. Bontrager is Trek's in-house brand so it seems like they are purposefully choosing to not be sponsor correct for a reason rather than pulling an MDVP in yellow situation where you are trying to TT a person who can't TT.

Trek let's their riders use their best helmet, not just bontrager for tt

Roglic had the disadvantage from the rain, but we have the advantage as neutral watchers that Roglic now needs to attack. Looking forward to those stages.

This highlights makes me understand about roglic. From the beginning of the TT roglic set a pace for his team mates to how understand what league is jumbo visma on the pace. ❤❤❤... go primoz...

Those 🪖 will be declared illegal in a few days. They’re basically fairings for the head, which admittedly all helmets are, but these go well beyond any safety function of a helmet. 😏

hot take, but those new giro lids look really good on the bike. absolutely ludicrous sitting around, but honestly very sick when riding. I want EF to get them and paint ww2 style shark faces on the helmets like they did with the duck helmets for the giro.

20 seconds back on UAE for Remco isn’t bad at all considering rain vs no rain. Also nobody on UAE has a chance in the mountain stages against Remco or Roglic.

Isn’t the issue with the Visma TT helmet that its elongated nose effectively turns the head and upper body into a fairing by closing the air space between the head and the hands? Fairings are illegal. Also, have we - and by we I mean the UCI - already forgotten Kung’s horror crash, caused by an extreme head down position and poor visibility?

Visibility shouldn't be too bad because of the large visor, so I don't expect that to be relevant to the legality of the helmets.

Its so nice to see Bernal back in the races, and those giro helmets look fantastic out on the bike.

absolute shocker from BORA although weather impacted... quite cool seeing both Rogla and Jonas on the back foot in both P-N and T-A... will mean for some fireworks later in the week.

I love the helmets. As a former commissaire it has been hard criticising the rules as I have seen how they can improve safety and accessibility for riders. But the charm is wearing off: Loosening the 1/3 rule has made the gap from a road bike to a TT bike much larger, increasing the cost of the sport; banning professional cyclists from tucking and getting into comfortable, aerodynamic positions while descending - giving margins back to lesser bike handlers; running after its own rules and then consequently banning the resulting brake lever positioning is a bit ridiculous. But now that we are finally getting both safe and aero helmets, there is some ridiculous urge to stop progress. Why? As long as they adhere to the availability principles, what is the issue with large helmets? When I was a kid the elites wore teardrop plastic shells with no safety and we taped the vents on our Met Stradivariuses, we'd dream of equipment such as the Giro Spaceballs, Sweet Spaceballs, and Specialized Balaclava. If the UCI can leave the rules alone, we will continue to see innovation and the really good stuff will get more accessible.

I feel a bit sorry for Roglik. Well done UAE.

Its as though, as Hambini maintains, the bike companies do not know how to get a true aerodynamic shape.. If there is one shape, all kit will conform to that ideal shape thats the most aerodynamic.
