I think he is that awkward but when he is in character, he turns it up to 11. IMHO, it's something good actors might often do, they take something from their own personalities that might fit and just roll with it. Maybe so playing the character is more natural if there is something to relate between them.

@@Misack8 In Meyers Briggs he has ridiculous amounts of intuition, in college we used to play a game where you pretend you have a mental disorder you pulled out of basket and everyone has to guess it, and I just scared people. Its the energy that drives most of Quentin Taratino's work, he knows how to make people uncomfortable. Its not really being socially awkward so much as understanding the feeling of being socially awkward and then extroverting that feeling into the world. A lot of comedians do different variations on the same theme, Larry David, Tim Heidecker, etc, extremely intuitive people.

Was anyone else just… genuinely uncomfortable during this? The other two videos killed me, I found them SO funny, but the meta nature of this combined with how flawless the acting was and for just how DRAWN OUT it was I was just so god damn uncomfortable, while in awe of the cinematic artistry. You’re something else Joel

In case you or anyone else really wants to know, this is a classic screen wipe effect. There were After Effects tutorials on this floating around all the way back in 2007-08. Most commonly it's a person standing in the road getting hit by a car. This is just a variation. So you have one shot of the person standing in the road (or in this case, in the box), you set the camera on a tripod, perfectly still. You film until you have a good enough reaction shot. Just them reacting as if theres a car about to hit them. Immediately after, you remove the person from the shot (in this case you leave the box in the street though as it's just cardboard) and you drive the vehicle through the shot (smashing the empty box, or just driving through an empty shot. Crushing an actual box sells the trick though). So you have two shots. One with a vehicle safely driving across the screen, and one with a person who is pretending they're about to get run over. In your program you layer the two shots, the camera never moved so this should be easy, but helps to pick a stable background and exact same time of day. You cut the videos in half and blend the two shots together. It's a lot like Photoshop. You cut around the road and car, and wipe it into the shot. When the car intersects the box or pedestrian you take a still frame of the person and motion track them to follow with the moving vehicle or under the tire. In the traditional shot with a walking pedestrian you would actual turn them into a 2D ragdoll and bend them over the hood and drag them off screen with the vehicle. Sounds more complicated than it is. Literally it's like making a collage. You clip around the car so that it looks like the two shots happened at the same time, then you have a few frames where your 2D still image from the moment of "impact" is animated to look like it's being affected by the car. In this case probably just a cutout of Sven's head moving towards the tire. After the squish you don't see anything distinguishably human so the special FX are done. The cool thing about the addition of the box is that it really simplified the effect. He didn't have to warp the entire body and make it look like it's realistically been hit and wrapped onto the hood. He could just take a few frames from the reaction video and move them exactly with the position of the box. That was really clever.

Yeah, I watched the Scott Cramer video first. Doesn't even mention any of this. They review some commercials. Adds to the immersion quite a bit that the other creator makes unrelated content during the visit.

Same here! I'm a huge fan of everything Joel has done. Up until this "Visiting" series, my favorite projects by him are his feature films. However, this series is easily some of the best content I've ever seen from any creator. Ever. It's genius, original, and always beautifully executed!

It is either Joel is so good acting or this is real.

All jokes aside though, you can really see how good Joel is at the cinematography of the entire thing. Every shot is interesting and great in its own way. The reactions are on point and the way it was set up to make it look like Joel was explaining everything was unique. Loving it. At least he's not going to call you awkward anymore, Joel.

It was getting more hilarious with each 'take'. I thought they'd play it that Joel was getting tired and Scott just. wouldn't. DIE. And Joel would, gasping at the end, just shoot him.

Joel: gets a van. "I want to get out there and experience the world". Also Joel: Bodies competition. I love it

I think Joel was genuinely hesitant at first, but you can see his reservations evaporating at 2:38-3:09

Joel’s directing has gotten better and better with each video in this series. His sense of tone and camera angles is incredible

This one is my favorite one yet, I love how you never do the exact same thing in each of your series. Each episode always brings something new to the table that the last didn't.

@@BradleySmithKZread Right! They'd be very wise to do that. CC bringing in both Sven and Gus brought me to check out their channel (I find the channel dry aside from their guest appearances). If CC would regularly release content with KZreadrs, I would definitely subscribe!

I actually love this. So genius. And the best part is thinking about the fact that they really had to do stuff like this to setup the video, and there had to be a fleeting moment where Scott or the others think.. could he really be a killer.... Nah...

I love how already super meta this series has become.

Joel is remaking the Creep movies into a short film series and i am absolutely loving it

When Joel said he was going to van around and make videos with people, it was the only thing that's ever made me wish I lived in N. America. I have reconsidered.

I feel great knowing that my Patreon donations are going to Joel doing these great deeds of cutting back the KZread population.

I subbed for the video he did a few months ago with the cape. I remember thinking this was some weird abstract art channel until I started watching other videos and realized it's a comedy sketch channel. Edit: It was called "I met a most peculiar man today"

This felt so real that the only thing that keeps me from thinking it's real is the trust that i have in Joel

These are the best thing I’ve seen in a long time I can’t wait for the plot to thicken. I love Scott & Sven too so I can’t wait to see who else Joel visits & how this finally plays out.

"Just say something like what you just said, something stupid" I get the feeling some part deep inside Joel wrote that into the script as an ironic line that wasn't entirely dishonest.
