Great video Seth and Gavin! Such a noble and respectful intro Seth, talking about Gavin. Thank you for that. Gavin is.. Gavin. I never miss an Adorama video with him. I do like other photographers as well, they're all masters, but Gavin has this sooo personal touch and he's funny, witty, knowledgeable... It's a true joy watching him and learning. Well, OK, if I'd analyse a little, another reason why Gavin is so great is that he uses less words to say more. He jumps over some obvious stuff (even for the novices) in an elegant way, which some other photographers don't usually do. They seem to enjoy the moment too much... I'm saying this with respect, nothing wrong with that - they've deserved this exposure, but it the days of killing competition on YT, every millisecond counts. Thanks guys!

Love you guys...big fan of Gavin(Hi Gavin waiting for your NY visit! I just lost my big beautiful studio space where all my dancers could fly so for now Im back in my small studio with a hole in my soul but always love how you work in a small space...no flying cranes just gorgeous ideas and inspiration...you both inspire! Thank you.

This is what I love about Adorama. You don't just show us the final step. You take us along on the journey. It's one of the things that's great about the livestreams in the studio as well. That green was such a fantastic choice. Great video Seth!

Excellent video! Showing and talking about the struggling and experiments to get a great shot under the pressure of time constraints takes a lot of guts. Nice to see it's not just me. I think we all wrestle with it from time to time. You have such a vast bag of tricks and wealth of experience to draw from. I knew you get a killer shot in the end. Well done!

Love it, Seth and Gavin! Roger is a great character actor, and I've seen him in Gavin's shoots doing a (beat up) boxer and other tough characters. Your results are all interesting to analyze, and again, you control of both light and color in camera is always helpful. Thanks to Gavin for this shoot, and for all the other relentlessly-enthusiastic videos he's done in the past. I love them all. Take care!

Love this video @lastxwitness, it shows that yes you do photos day in day out, yes your skilled, yes you create content, but it gives a raw message that.... Anything is possible, like you said yourself it just wasn't quite right for you, so you made it work. I do enjoy watching your videos, your one of my top 5 people in the photo world, your classed to me as the "the alternate guy with the power to stand out" Thanks for all you share it only makes us achieve more by a small bit of guidance from people like you. P. S I think the photography show should have you here with, Daniel and Gavin,.... Doing a theme shoot called... "time for tea and corn dogs", a afternoon tea theme with a American spin on it. was def great to see my buddy and such a talent guy all around on his home court... literally! my man has chickens!

We never get to see much of Gavin's studio besides his background. It's hard to tell how small it is in his videos but this one really shows its size.

I mean for having no idea you were going to shoot anything to all the sudden shooting with a 45 minute time cap to create something out of nothing it’s really impressive plenty of people would love to get an image close to that in that time frame (I know I would).

Nice video. I could really feel the pressure to instantly create a plan to make the image before the clock runs out. Wish Gavin could be there to help me out when I'm in the same situation! What are those adjustable arms called that are on top of the light stands? I could really use something like that if it's strong enough to hold a Speedlite with a small softbox. One other question: Does using a smoke generator in Gavin's home leave a bad smell, or leave a residue of oil in the house? I never got a smoke generator for fear of getting kicked out by my wife.

all in the description as far as gear goes. Smoke machines are usually based on the heating up and "burning" of glycerin I dont believe it leaves residue but then again I am sure excessive use of anything like that could have some sort of effects . best ask Gavin

Hey Seth! Isn’t Gavin Hoey a “European Master Light” i love his lighting, as I do with the other European “Master Of Light” Frank Doorhof... both are super talented Photographers when it comes to lighting and smoke! You captured some amazing photographs in this video, Don’t be so hard on yourself or should I say, don’t be so modest, I think the pictures you took look amazing-well done! Seth, the green filter changed the back light to green. Why did the filter not affect the red and yellow on the right side of his face. Also the left looks like it was shot with just a regular light. I was expecting the entire photo to be green. Can you help me wrap my mind around the final image. Thank you.

it actually did just way more subtle since it wasnt white light which is basically a blank pallet for any other color to be introduced the gel on the other side was a stacked up chocolate (99) with some CTO so the green wasnt really going to effect much when in color theory the opposite of green would be magenta ..hope that makes sense?
