Visiting a Yarn Festival in SCOTLAND 🏴 Vlog + Haul from The Scottish Yarn Festival 2023
An amazing weekend at the Scottish Yarn Festival in Perth! I got so many things for projects that I'm so excited to make and keep as souvenirs from this adventure. I also tagged many local Scottish fiber, yarn, and textile brands throughout the video, so if you're interested in some Scottish goodies, definitely search for them on Instagram and check them out!!

Hi, came across your video. Wanted to let you know, Donegal yarns are from Donegal, which is in the Republic of Ireland, which isn't part of the UK.
Your enthusiasm, cheerfulness, and happy sense of adventure is a delight. I will gladly follow your adventures and wish you huge success in your endeavours!
I HAVE NEVER SUBSCRIBED TO ANYONE SO FAST - excellent intro to your channel! you're doing WORK over here!!! xx
My favorite part? I think that interaction with the knitters at high tea. This is one of the things I love about the fiber community! What a lift to watch this wonderful vlog this morning! Thank you so much!
I smiled ear to ear watching this. I'm so glad you enjoyed the festival, it's so special to me as are the people that make it! What wonderful luck that our paths crossed over the weekend.
Your energy and enthusiasm always brings a smile to my face. So glad you had a fabulous time. 🤗
I love the colourful tweed yarns you chose. You have a great instant friend energy so I'm not surprised you had so many great moments at the festival, especially love the impromptu show and tell with those ladies.
This is pure torture to watch. Why did I not Know about this festival? Wish I was there and Love all the items shown. Glad you shared.
Amazingly enough, I happened to watch this on Halloween! And, the two yarns I flipped over were the tweeds and Halloween yarn! As it so happens, my daughter in law is from Edinburgh and our family, from Las Vegas, went to Scotland to meet the extended family a few years ago. It has to be one of my favorite countries ever. Yes, I did buy yarn while there but couldn’t find roving for spinning anywhere at the time. Thank you for your wonderful video and I look forward to many more!
You keep mentioning the lovely things you saw that made you happy. Well your videos make me happy! Thanks so much for this fun time. I wish i could have been at that festival. The knitting yarns are gorgeous (I love the tweeds) and that cone of weaving yarn was wonderful! I hope you show us how to spin on the Scottish spindle. I can't figure out how you can wind very much of the spun yarn onto the spindle.
I really enjoyed the tour of the yarns festival.
You have such a wonderful and joyous energy and way about you that is so welcoming and I’m sure is a joy to know
oh my!!! I am so happy to arm chair travel with you! My dream is your reality. Go girl! Great job.
American who has lived in Scotland for a decade and can unequivocally state that Marcus/Fibre Punk is the most adorable and lovely yarn delights producer going! So glad you’re enjoying your time here. Attending HW is such an honour, enjoy every moment!
I am SUPER impressed with how diligent you were at the festival! I would have had to ship a box or two back to Canada - and that’s just with the peeks you gave us. I can guarantee that I would have spent a fortune at Fiber Punks as I loved every single skein I saw on that table! (The blue and lavender one I saw at the bottom left in your shot would make a stunning sweater for hubby who has white hair and crisp blue eyes). I am new to your channel, but your enthusiasm was just so infectious that I HAD to subscribe and now I can’t wait to see your projects come to life. 😊
omg you are living my dream! thank you for sharing your fibre adventures with us
At One of the festivals I attended last year, a vendor commented that she had noticed that people tend to buy yarn or fiber in the color they were wearing! I had to pause the video to share that after you bought that yarn from fiberpunk.
I love how you went around the show and showed us everything, including where to purchase with no words. Thank you for sharing all that yarny goodness!
It was wonderful watching you enjoy this festival 😃 I didn’t even know about it but it looks like an amazing event to go to 😃 Thanks for sharing 👏👏🇬🇧
Omg! You made friends with all the Midlanders!!!! The best group you could have befriended (in my biased opinion) It looked like a wonderful chilled out festival. I might have to add that to next year's list! Tell me you're coming to yarningham 2024!?!?!!?
Omg those hoops are perfect for you!!!! So cute
I've been inspired by your Saori weaving and ended up buying a loom. I recently converted it to a home made 4 shaft after watching you. I enjoy all your woolly adventures. Though I live in the UK, I'm on the south coast, Scotland is a tad too far. So I was delighted to see your vlog on the festival. Thank you for sharing and hope you enjoy every moment.
So must go to this Festival !!! Since the UK left the EU during Brexit it’s been impossible to get yarn from small UK suppliers as I live in Ireland (in EU not UK and we have customs problems). I would love to get my hands on some of that Shetland wool. Enjoy Scotland living there for my PhD were the best three years of my life.
If you can get your fingers on a 4-shaft loom I would really recommend Hucks Lace (same draft lots of variations in the weave) it give a lovely textured weave that will compliment your yarn.
There isn’t a bag big enough for all of the beautiful knitted examples for sale there. What a treat.💜🌺💜👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👍🏼🧶
Welcome to Scotland Andrea. You’ve found a lovely part of our wonderful country to study in. New Lanark Mills is well worth a visit. Organising a tour via the University might be a good idea to see the parts that are not just for the public. If you can get to the Western Isles- home of Harris Tweed you will be blown away by the countryside as well as the textiles. Love your enthusiasm and energy that comes over in your videos. X
It looked like such a fun show! I love talking with people at fiber festivals, so you doing that and bringing that passion and info to your videos makes me so happy ☺️
Hey Podcaster. I don’t know that I have anything new to add here. Everyone already said everything. Your presence and perspective adds so much to the community! Always look forward to your posts.
Never been to a yarn festival.. this is such a treat! :)
People are so kind and seem to gravitate to your great personality. Never miss Andrea Alexander!
i'm israeli and your cute smiles and friendly interactions with perfect strangers gave me a good moment of escapism and i really appericiate you for that , i hope you continue to enjoy your journey!

I love your energy and your smile and it was so much fun to go along to the fiber festival with you. I would love that green yarn.
So nice, thank you Andrea for this great share, I happen to be there also !!! I was first in line Saturday to make sure I would get a last minute ticket, since our trip to Scotland was not suppose to be the weekend of the festival, we made a slight detour for me to be able to spend few hours at my first festival attempt ever !!! So how nice was it to watch your video. I think I have seen you before, but I am not sure, where are you from, I am from Québec, Canada… ps we can almost see me on your video at the waiting line, I recognize my shoes 😮
Wow, what fun! Thanks for taking me along with you.
I met Eva at Rhinebeck and she was lovely. The festival in Perth is on my to do list. Can’t wait!
So amazing! I recently discovered a farm in Scotland that harvests wool from sheep that eat only kelp. Seaside sheep! I couldn't believe it.
Hi, Andrea, came across this wonderful podcast of the Scottish yarn festival you shared with us. I absolutely enjoyed it, thank you so much!! I'd like to commend you on your filming skills, the way you move slowly and pause often so that we may focus and enjoy what you're showing us, thank you for that! Good luck with your artistic endeavors, and your travel adventures. Sally from Portland Oregon, US.
I love fibre festivals too. Got hooked on watching the East Anglia Yarn Festival last year and the addiction grew from there to watching yarn vlogs by people from all over the world…Norway, Scotland, Kent, New York, Calgary…..
What a fantastic video, you are so upbeat, enthusiastic and informative. I live in Glasgow and I will certainly go to this event in Perth next year. You pronounced the rather complex Scottish names perfectly, well done. I’ve sewn up a baby hat while watching;sewing up is not my favourite pastime. Very best wishes for your course at HW🧵🧶
Thanks ever so much for showing us!
Thank you for taking around the show, felt like l was there. Love your enthusiasm.
I loved hearing about you making so many new friends :) like another person commented, you are the common denominator, and i can only imagine how you attract everyone elses enthusiasm and sweetness!
Thank you so much for sharing!
What a gorgeous memory shawl!
That looked like so much fun. Enjoy your time abroad. You'll find it a benchmark time in your life which you will reference so many times going forward. I was an exchange student in 1984-85 and learned how to knit while I was surrounded by knitters for the first time in my life. It is something I still practice. I look forward to more reports of your time in Scotland.
I love your day2 top and earrings.
What fun and the weather looks really comfortable. That green yarn is going to make a beautiful garment, as with everything you bought. 👍👍👍
Oh! Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Dang!!! I was just thinking this morning about you and I wanted to write and ask if you would be attending any fiber festivals. Soooooo Cool. I love all the things you showed at the festival and the wonderful items you bought. This year I have made it to several small events. There is one more I need to go to the first Saturday of November. Now I have to get to work as well. You bring such encouragement to me with all the things you do. Keep it up.
All of these colors are so much more vibrant than the yarns at the stores. They’re so pretty!!!
Was so happy when this video popped up on my Facebook feed. Your infectious enthusiasm is a balm to my wounded spirits caused by the horrendous world situations which I don't have to explain! I'm 83 years old and used to have teach machine knitting and sold knitting machines and yarn. When we retired and I decided my constant backache from moving the carriage couldn't be ignored, I sold all my equipment, accessories, yarn, etc., and watching this video had me long at least for a yarn swift and ball winder! I can't see how your delightful demeanor and outlook can't lead to a successful career and happy life. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing your Scottish Yarn Festval joy and enthusiasm!
Andrea, it looks like you had so much fun and it was wonderful to come along with you. I'm envying-with-joy-for-you this opportunity to study in Scotland! I hope you make it over to New Lanark, the mill has such a fascinating social history, and I think you'll find it really interesting.
Omg I work at Parklands hotel !! So sorry I missed you 😭❤️
Loved your Scottish festival coverage, so cool! And I can't wait to see your progress with the dealdan or whatever the Scottish spindle is called.
Just stumbled across your channel and I loved this video. You were so happy telling your story from the festival and I felt like I was actually there with you. Thank u for sharing your experience ❤❤❤
What fun! Thanks for sharing!
I knew you would get the Lyndsey Walters jewelry, it's so you! :D
Those aren’t rats!! They’re opossums. ❤ North America’s only marsupial.❤ GREAT show and a wonderful video.
Yeahhhhh yarn hauls!!! I am just leaning to weave and going to a weaving event tomorrow here in Ontario Canada and am really pumped.
I just found your channel. You are so much fun and I love your enthusiasm. I subscribed and then purchased that shawl pattern. ❤
Hi Andrea, what an enthusiastic podcaster you are! New subscriber here, loved this. I’m an English pensioner and I LOVE LOVE LOVE your ear rings! I have a pair of leather ankle boots in all those colours which quite by accident match a shawl I knit 8 years ago ! Who knew! Those earrings are a must I will try and detect who the maker is and purchase some. Donegal tweed is a wonderful yarn, and like you I love a tweedy yarn, top marks for your colour choices! So glad you have a splendid time, and good luck in your exciting studies - if I had my time over again! I’m now off to check out your other podcasts and look forward to the next.x

@@thescottishyarnfestival 😂😂😂😂😂You’re late to the party! I’ve already contacted Lynsey, ordered my lovely earrings AND had them delivered a few weeks ago! 😂😂😂And been in touch with Andrea too. What a great communication tool this is - I know it gets knocked for the nasty things some people use it for but yarny folk seem to be really decent. And jewellery makers too of course! x
Hope you visit / visited New Lanark Mill. It's in a lovely spot too by the Falls of Clyde.
Great video, thank you!
Love the shawl colours, beautiful yarn 🧶♥️
I didn't know about it at all! Thank you for sharing😍

The earrings are perfect for you.
Looks like you had a really great experience at the festival. I went along for the first time too in 2023 and fell for the same donegal tweed as you! There's a new yarn festival happening in Edinburgh at the end of April 24 so maybe one for you to try in the future?
And now I will enjoy living vicariously through everything on your Scotland trip ! So fun!! Thanks for sharing!!
loved the video and your positive energy. 🙂 makes me want to start a new knitting project as well. 😅 thanks!
I want it all!
WOW i would be so broke when I left there. But looks like so much fun. We have one here in Irving Texas and I plan on going.
Welcome to Scotland Andrea, here’s a little test for you😂. My house sits on a battlefield, I have a king on a horse out my front window, a castle to the side of me and at the back of me I have a Bravehearts monument, where do I live? You must come visit!❤
The montage music ❤❤❤❤🎉
I was confused first haha I first thought about Australia. Luckily Scotland is a lot closer
I just got home from NYSW for the first time and you speaking about community and excitement at the festival and in town is exactly what I loved most about my weekend in Rhinebeck.
Those tweed yarns are perfect. You will need some of those baltic mittens in December.
Ahhh looks like great fun on that trip 😊 brilliant footage of beautiful places ❤
Привет из России Я побывало сказке!!!!!Спасибо Милая я такой Прекрасный позитив,🎉🎉🎉 ❤❤❤❤❤
Attended my first yarn festival, a couple of weeks ago. It was mind-blowing! Never seen so much yarn, etc, in one place before! An hour after opening, there must have been as many ladies present as there were balls of yarn and no one could move any more. Amazing 😊!
There was a yarn festival In Perth and I didn't know?!? GUTTED!

Your channel was the best thing that happened to me this week
I loved this video! You had such a great time and you got such fun stuff.
Missed you at Rhinebeck❤
Hotbutter Yarns 👍👍👍
It was so nice to run across your podcast. I'm an American living in the Netherlands. I've gone to a few European yarn festivals on my own. I always felt like a fish out of water, but really enjoyed the adventure and found people generally so friendly. Really fun to hear about your journey. @friendoblu
such fun! 🙂 but are you sure you have enough knitting & spinning projects for the whole semester ? ;-)
Zuzanash 👍👍 Debonnaire 👍👍
Great video. I’m going back to Inverness in December. Can you suggest any yarn shops near there. I went to the Woolly Sheep in January but I just found out it’s closed. Thanks in advance. 🐭
If you find some good deals on yarn or equipment hopefully you can ship it home before you go home.
I would like to see this.
Where did you find the shawl and what is it called
Can you please give me the address for where you bought the Highland cow tote?
When did this festival held?
👍🧶🇩🇰
Ireland is not part of UK. Donegal is part of Ulster which has a strong historical link with Scotland which makes it a great choice for your souvenir . But Donegal is part of Ireland!!
