Visit To Tamiya Headquarters In Japan - Part 1
Ойын-сауық
Part 1 of my visit To Tamiya Plastic Model Corporation HQ in Shizuoka, Japan, and saw their corporate archive of historical kits and dioramas (original Shep Paine dioramas!) as well as historical vehicles, their current range, and more. Apologies for the audio quality, I’ve bumped it up as much as I can, but their quiet corporate office just isn’t the sort of place to rudely and loudly record video commentary!

I absolutely LOVE how they keep the nostalgic feel of all their new art and boxes. It’s so refreshing not to have 100% digital art fronting your product.
This is just way too cool!!! It's a damn shame all the hobby stores in my area are now extinct!!

Do you watch Andy's Hobby Headquarters?
Thank you for posting Dave. It brought back a lot of good memories from last year's trip.
Tamiya could teach Harley Davidson a thing about moving forward with new products and still keeping the nostalgia and passion. So many thanks to Tamiya ! A glorious collection!
Very, very happy to see in Tamiya HQ a entire section in honor to Shep Paine. Thanks for sharing Dave.
This is a holy shrine to Modelling and Miniatures Amazing 👽💚

Thanks mate! a trip back to when when I was a kid in the 70s. I'd forgotten just how many Tamiya Mum and Dad brought me, happy days. Rock on Tamiya.
Bloody hell mate just some awesome dioramas and I am blowen away by all the collection and just to see Shep Pain's stuff is truly an honour to modelling thank you so much for taking us all with you
I got my first TAMIYA figures in 1975 or was it 76?... of the 88mm gun crew ( without the gun :) but ever since l adored this company and spent a small fortune on their kits. I would give a kidney to be in that room, this is the single most entertaining video l have ever seen on KZread. Sir l thank you for making this epic journey so we can see this incredible archive of kits in their beautiful dioramic surroundings. STUNNING!
Went there in 2015 loved it. Went back 4 days in a row stayed all day . Great video.
Wow, wow, awesome to see. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the visit. It’s amazing how well thought out and spotless that place is. I am American and I cannot imagine many American manufacturers having a place like that for fans to visit. Thanks!

@@DavesModelWorkshop what an experience it must have been to be there...thousands of completed kits. Thank you for posted it in detail!
4:43 That model kit right there is the reason why military vehicle models today are predominantly 1/35th scale (and not the more logical 1/32 scale).
@DavesModelWorkshop
Жыл бұрын
It's like a toy, isn't it? I believe the chosen scale was something to do with fitting two batteries for the motor, is that correct?
I do believe I heard angles sing when you crossed the moat and panned the camera up the stairs! Thanks for the nice archive tour, and to see Shep Pain tribute was inspiring. Nice job Dave. Have fun!!

Lance Caldwell it felt like that to me too!
As a kid, I could not fathom a year not being in the Tamiya Modeler's Club, and getting the annual catalog. But the kits are so expensive today.
I'd love to visit there one day, also visit one of Japan's model superstores.
Thank you fir sharing

Raaaaaaaaadd! This stuff is great.
OMG you made the great pilgrimaget to the great modeller shrine of Japan.
Cool! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That’s nuts!
I always felt this company had the finest military models in their price range. They were always an excellent product I had many great hours of modeling fun as a teenager and young adult. Unfortunately I haven't built any for 30 years.
May check with your , need how to finish the tour on this lovely building .
What was that warning sign at the entrance of the building? ''You are now entering modeller's Heaven''.
Dave I just found you, love your work and I live in Japan so I’m going to Tamiya HQ - let us know if you come back!

Hi Fiona, I'm so jealous you live in Japan! I've become such a Japanophile since visiting in 2013 and 2017. Every week I have a "Oh, I wish I was in Japan right now" moment. I'll definitely be back there some time. Enjoy Tamiya HQ, it was a real highlight for me. Dave
I think over the years l have spent easily €20,000 on Tamiya figures and Military vehicles. Money very well spent,my favourite all time model? For my 11th Birthday the 88mm and crew,my first Tamiya kit...1976 the 88mm crew! Such an Amazing Company bringing joy and education to millions for 50 years+.
Nice show......What camera did you use, as you need a polaizer filter, to cut out glare, and reflection from display.
Oh my !!! Oh my !! Oh ......... My !!!!!
Given the status of model building in the world I do hope that they have diversified their production.
Wish I could visit this place, I just finished my M-05 nsu tt jagermeister build, ordered the new comical grasshopper coming out November 2nd

I just finished it this past week n will be running it for the first time on Tamiya Tuesday n making a video. I don’t know if u have ever seen my tamiya buildoffs? I’ve been putting on a buildoff for the last 4 months with other channels around the world n we all build the same kit, but our styles n final projects all come out different n I make a video called shows them off displaying all the builds, 1st build was the grasshopper n we had over 20 builders, 2nd was lunchbox n had like 15, 3rd was dancing rider we had like 10 n this last month it was a pick ur tamiya of ur choice n video will be coming soon

9:20 The moment you watch a video from an australian dude visiting Tamiya in Japan, filming dioramas made by a guy from chicago and spot a little roadsign on that diorama that says Grafenwöhr 18 miles whats about the distance I life away from there.^^

I love it! That's cool Christian. The world is an amazing place :)
This would be my #1 stop if I ever went to Japan. If I had to limit myself to just one model brand for the rest of my life, it would be Tamiya. I also love Tamiya's earlier kits - sure, they were crude by comparison, but they still hold a place in modeling history.

I agree DanR67, if I had to limit myself to one manufacturer it would also be Tamiya.
yeah, I've built the 1/360 scale model of Yamato when I was a kid. it was motorized, and moved on water

I have a king Blackfoot RC truck I cannot find parts anywhere around would you happen to have any chassis parts Fernand parts the hold the wheels on please comment back thank you very much you should bring this truck back you brought just a Blackfoot back you should bring the king Blackfoot back that was a good truck to thank you very
I have only picked up this video clip< A question "where you in a Shinto Shrine", the audio is appalling. Also your camera work is to fast from left to right shots, the only time it settled was when you focused on a specific item. I appreciate that you where in the "home" of Tamiya, excited to be there, but little planning might have made your presentation worthwhile.
You probably should have re-recorded your in-store audio commentary after the fact.
