If an OEM wanted to include a virus why would they put it on the storage drive rather than into the UEFI or somewhere not visible to the person using the system? And if they are leaving obvious signs of hacks in the OS how do you know they aren't leaving non obvious signs elsewhere?

Honestly what sucks here is there's a chance it really wasn't a virus and they put it there because they genuinely cared for their customers. It's good to be skeptical of course but now they have all of this negative press which might not even be warranted.

Well it was a virus in previous units... But I couldn't detect anything. So that's why I still made the video

If you factory reset windows does that not remove this?

Did you notice that the system didn't have memory integrity enable-able due to the inclusion of an incompatible driver ftdibus sys ? That was something I observed with my AM16 unit and I'm not even sure the driver was needed.

That file isn’t a file to bypass Microsoft account registration. Files within that part of the file explorer wouldn’t be there at that point.

I found putting the switch emulator in docked mode made a lot more games play well on these mini pcs. like SMRPG gets maxed frame rate with a ryzen 3200

Too much worry about nothing.. I always install a fresh copy. I Never use factory installed windows due to bloatware...

Hey Logan, can you make that video on why you can't move to Linux and are stuck on Windows? I'm curious about Linux, but want to learn more about the drawbacks.

I don't blame them for bypassing windows login but at the same time they could've just included a paper slip that says "this is how to bypass microsoft login" instead of providing questionable software or at the very least don't put malware on the image lmaoo

@@yoppindia Very unlikely. The easiest way to bypass it is, has always been to use windows install media and swap the on screen keyboard out for the command prompt by renaming the executables. From there you change the password to anything or nothing. If they really cared they'd have a checksum for those executables, or even a simple check of the file size to prevent them working if the executable doesn't match.

The tipping point for me on buying one of these mini PCs is when they can pass my current (outdated) setup of Ryzen 5 2600 with GTX1080. Are we there yet?

Yes. Deleting it seemed to work. It did not come back after a reboot

I was going to sugest bitdefender but seeing you use it it my just be a false positive stuf that it’s ment to bypass something and not a real trojan

If there is something, it's buried in the BIOS it self. These days uefi can inject code into OS, thats why those Auto Installers from bios are available on newer uefi bioses. Manufacturer could put trojan into bios and av's would never see it. Would love to see analysis on the BIOS file and its modules.

Always install your own windows from scratch on any new PC.

I reinstall Windows or Linux on every PC I buy so this is a non-issue for me. Still deters me from buying though.

I can guess they submit that this is not Virus? Unless the learn to better by passed those programs and override them. There are many factors and just a guess. I wonder if kernel level. If Virus detect the scan it turn off the functions and wait for finish and turn it back on.

I would recommend wiping the SSD and doing a clean install anyway!

N S A every CPU has wares you can't even scan. Also it's been known that's there's backdoors in every CPU ever. No matter what it's just like that and why every item is fcc compliant

I always perform a clean install of Windows anyway, so the endev doesn't bother me.

Also scanning and it saying nothing is not good enough Ive had multiple people contact me to get their discord accounts back after installing things they shouldnt Its easy as hell to make a discord session swipper that cant be detected and it aint limited to discord it can be done for nearly any app... but discord is easiest and the one where the scamming asswipes will get the largest chance at stealing money

Just wipe it and install Linux?

Bit disturbing none of the av detects this trojan, but vt sees it. Is it a large file? Is it compressed. Some av bypasses scanning certain files over a certain size or if it's compressed.

@@teksyndicate Thanks for the reply. Even more disturbing. It should have detected it. If not. It is probably a legit app that uploads a payload into your machine. But in that case the realtime av should still pick it up. Scary.

But... Microsoft publish tools and methods that let you build a legal Win11 distro that skips the MS Account bs. I've done this myself many times. So there just is no excuse for this crap existing in the Windows folder. None.

My room is like 40db with the PC off. A bedroom is usually 30db... So I'm gonna say I don't believe you.

I love these mini-PCs. Too bad I've never used one and probably never will as they're expensive and I'd rather invest in my main PC than in them.

In the end it was "Windows is the virus!" all this time! PSA: Just use linux kids ... :-)

nah. most of us have lives and things to do, and dont have the time, energy or patience for trouble shooting every little thing.

In a just world you would be in jail for continually promoting these products.
