I started reading “Up from Slavery” & had to check out this great university that was built by students with the leadership of the great Booker T Washington! I’m greatly inspired by how someone can come from the most unfortunate of circumstances and rise beyond them to be an inspiration to generations! The entire University is a window into history and should be a global heritage site! May the current and future leaders and students of the University channel the spirit of industriousness. With determination and patience, greatness will certainly emerge! Much admiration from Kenya.

Same here! My 12yo son had to read it for school and I read it with him. So good! I immediately went to virtual tours and found this!

I've read, "Up from slavery ". An autobiography of Booker T. Washington. Wh3n he was sent here to start a school he found a dilapidated shanty near the coloured Methodist Church. He was disappointed. But by God's grace and his hard work and the others that he taught and led Tuskegee started to shape up. But it took a lot of years, sweat fears, and worries. It's a very interesting book . I read it twice.

I am looking forward to tour Tuskegee University in person when this pandemic is over. Love this presentation and the love to education by these humble God fearing souls, much success to them all.

This was a former slave plantation that bookert T Washington purchased for $500 and all of the subsequent buildings were built by students and faculty
