FULL NOLA PLAYLIST • New Orleans Virtual Tours
The Garden District, or ‘Lafayette City’, as it was once known, is just a short streetcar ride from the French Quarter, but it feels like a world apart.
Excluded from early 19th Century Creole society, newly arrived Yankees got to work creating their own city. The result is one of New Orleans’s most desired neighborhoods and one of the nation’s most beautifully preserved city districts and it’s home to the rich, the famous, the strange, and the dead!

If you think the virtual tour is good, it is EXCELLENT in person!! (Full tour is two hours.) My sons and I took this exact tour with Andrew yesterday and it was one of the highlights of our trip to New Orleans! Andrew has an impressive knowledge of the entire region and he is well-spoken, entertaining and a FUN guide! There were about 20 people on our tour and as we walked from one place to the next he took time chatting and getting to know each person there. Highly recommended!!

The Garden District used to be the old Livaudais Plantation before the land was divided up and sold to incoming Americans after the Louisiana Purchase. The Garden District was in the “American Sector”. It is a beautiful place. There is actually a Creole Garden District too (Creole in Louisiana means the colonial descended, Louisiana-born people of any race or ancestry, except Native American. This extends to their style, culture, cuisine and way of life). The Creole Garden District is the Esplanade Ridge, which is the area along Esplanade Avenue into Faubourg St. John along Bayou St. John. It’s where the white Creoles of the Vieux Carré relocated to after leaving the Vieux Carré due to some crushing economic and demographic factors. I’m from one of those relocated families. New Orleans history is so rich.

Just excellent. Your delivery is both personable and engaging, and you maintain eye contact with your audience (in this case the camera) almost continuously, looking away only to direct audience attention to points of interest. You've included a huge amount of objective historical information, and you've delivered it a way that intrigues the audience and makes them want to learn more. There's no evidence of memorization - just great conversational style. I'm a retired park ranger, and in the course of my career I've given tours to tens of thousands of people and attended many, many interpretive training courses . In this video, you sir, have given one one of the most enjoyable tours I've experienced in a very, vey long time - in line with some of the very best. If I ever make it back to NO, I look forward to experiencing a live tour with you. Thank you for the wonderful experience (and yes, I'm sending you a tip and have subscribed to your channel)!

Just got home today from our trip to New Orleans. This was one of the 3 tours that we did with Free Tours by Foot and we had the absolute pleasure of having Andrew as our guide. We had put most of our New Orleans itinerary together by watching all of the the FTBF videos on YT, most featuring Andrew. I could not possibly recommend this tour more! Very enjoyable, informative AND extremely entertaining! Thanks again, Andrew. Jeff & Kelly
