Virtual shelling like a local. Let's explore Bunche Beach!

To go virtual shelling like a local, you have to go to a local beach. Not all beaches will have the same shelling luck, but we'll find a few interesting things to check out and I find another mystery shell!

I love “tinies”. The whole time you were watching the weather and trying to hurry and find something, I was wishing I could tell you, “Just scoop a bunch of stuff into a container!”. It was what I used to do on trips to the beach that were time constrained. Then I would get out my magnifying glass and my tweezers and “hunt” at my leisure! AND THEN YOU DID IT! Thank you! That gave me closure!

My daughter Charlee(2) and Timber(3) have become quite the shell experts watching your videos. The absolutely LOVE when you say “ hello beach friends” they giggle and get excited. And then when you say “let’s go to the beach” they start dancing with the music. It is so cute and sweet. They even refer to you by name. Your videos are our nightly routine and they look forward to it. Thank you!

I think the mystery dove snail is definitely a Rusty dove snail, and a great one at that! Just a little above average in terms of size. I also can't think of anything else it could be. It's interesting how you note that the Jingles at Bunche appear shinier. I'm not actually sure, but maybe they do better in bay habitats and just wash up fresher? That's just my working theory. Well done!

  • @SWFBeachLife

Perhaps the bay water is what is making those shells super shiny but it's something special over there. I've had other viewers send me photos of beautiful shimmering shells from that beach as well. Thanks so much on the ID assistance! Hi Sharmon, Dear Beach Angel, glad to find another of your amazing videos waiting for me. I don't know what I'll do when Sunday Night church services begin again. I'll be watching you all the way home again, I guess. I had a bunch of tedious tests last Friday and will see the surgeon on next Friday. Hopefully, the surgery will be scheduled shortly after that. I'm so tired of waiting and growing weaker and sicker by the day. Yay, Bunche Beach is one of my favorite places, as it is a little microsystem of marine animal life and I think it's just wonderful! The shells are great, gifts from the God who made the seas, but I like the critters He made just as much! I like to see your interaction and respect for them, too! An good example is your encounter with that crown conch. He was so cute, navigating your hand like a little tank, his proboscis exploring the ridges and valleys of your gentle fingers. Loved the wiggly little trunk, so like a baby elephant wearing a blindfold! Like I told you last time, do NOT be the tallest thing on the beach when there's lightning around! BOOM! Your filling that coffee container with shells reminded me of the summer I spent hunting for rubies and sapphires in the mountains of Western North Carolina. I was having some success when I got called back home (to FL) early, so I just filled an old metal cooler with the gravel in which I was finding good stones. Months later, I went to a local river (the Blackwater, in NW FL) with my cooler and a mining pan and started washing and finding nice, little stones. Some people came by in kayaks and asked what I was doing, as I was sitting at the river's edge, washing pans of my gravel in search of good stones and dumping the used gravel in the river. Without looking up, I told them that I was looking for rubies and sapphires. They turned their kayaks over, they got out so quickly. I packed up my gear and left for a more private location, laughing quietly as I walked away, at the sight of them digging in the river's gravelly bottom. It was much too funny to tell them that I brought my own gravel! Didn't want them to take my gravel away, either! How amazing to find a whelk egg case and then to remove the micro minis from it to fill a bottle. Do you set the bottle next to a large whelk for comparison? Sorry you got run off the beach by the weather, but you and we had some fun, nevertheless. I'm never going to look at a yucky pile of beach schmutz the same again! Thank you so much for the trip, no matter how it turned out! Just being with you is always a delight. Love from the Lost Mermaid

What a story about your gravel and those kayakers! My husband's parents have gone to Georgia looking for gem stones and they have a great time. I guess it's like anything else - once you've been searching for a while you start to recognize the shapes and colors of what you're hunting for. That's fascinating! I'm sorry you're still waiting to hear about surgery and I really hope you find something out soon. I was so lucky when I needed mine it was scheduled right away. The waiting is no fun! Hoping for all good news and outcomes! 🙏🏼

It was nice to see all the Cocina's . Kocinas? They have just started showing up at the beach I live across the street from and every time I get excited to see the butterfly shape. BUT as soon as I gently pick them up they come unhinged when they were hinged. It's been like 5 times and it's frustrating because your's seem hearty'er and i think ours are more fragile. I'm very careful but, every time the separate. So, i just leave them because i want them in the butterfly position. Anyway, seeing different tiny shells was VERY NICE! Don't feel like this wasn't a good video. It was, it was just different then what your used too. But, variety and change when you're doing programs like this is a must! It was good.. Keep up the good work and be encouraged. I loved seeing those jingles even though i have my own boat load! lol..... Thanks for bringing us a bit of adventure each week. I think there might be a whole metamorphosis to shell collecting. First there's the big shells. Anything big and shiny. Then there's the more rare shells - always super fun to find. Then one starts to look for things that are unusual, and then tiny - not necessarily in that order of discovery, but I'm finally in my tiny stage so I do enjoy looking for those perfect little shells as well. Plus the clean up and storage is half the time!! Should we make a shirt: Size doesn't matter (with a few different sized shells ☺️)

Thank you once again for this calming beachy goodness my friend. Here in my neck of the woods of Eastern Kentucky, southeast Ky to be exact we had a devastating flood that hit my little area and many more towns close by almost wiping out our home town, so after dealing with almost losing our home, sheds and vehicles as well as my parents home etc I have been in need of something to once again ease my mind and as always you have helped me so much keeping my mind off of all that’s going on dealing with this flood damage and now the worry of my sweet dad who was told some not so good news today over his prostate cancer. I’m just blessed the good lord has helped me get through my breast cancer and as for now keeping me in remission, as well as blessing me so that I’m feeling well enough myself so I can help my mother and my father for the long road my daddy has ahead of him dealing with chemo and things like that. Please keep eastern Kentucky as well as me, my family and everyone in my area in your prayers and you and your family are in my prayers always. Now to pop my earbuds in and listen to your calming voice and the sounds of the ocean. Thank you again love for all you do for us to give us amazing videos.

Greetings Sharmon! I found this beach walk exciting! What a glorious stormy day. (I'm glad you watch the lightening.) That crown conch was motoring on your palm; what does it feel like? I do like seeing the critters and dancing birds. Ooohhh, the rose petal tellins and coquinas! Love their colors. I love all the shells! What a good idea to take a container home to investigate. I love the lapping wave sounds. I love it all! Thank you so much for including me! P.S. the lightening whelk tinies! I love that you take the time to bottle them!

The little crown conchs feel almost like nothing since they're not really grabbing anything and they are kind of gliding along on their own. And it's so funny that this beach has such different shells than the other beaches I normally visit but there are still treasures to be found! Thank you for coming along with me Carol!

Ty for sharing!! My little girl is sick, she woke me up at 5am with a messy mess I had to sort out and clean up ! and so I've been watching your backlog to pass the time.. which has been super helpful to my stress level actually! ! In between running for the bucket lol.. couldn't get into her Dr today, so we'll likely be headed to the er tonight : P. Wish me luck lol oh btw- what I wouldn't give to be on a beach in FL- it was in the teens last night here in Northern Maine ! ❄️❄️🧊🥶🥶! Brrrrrr was crispy cold ! And tonight will be, and already is just as cold ! I think we've melted a couple feet of snow so far, and still got 3or 4 feet to go! ! We are definitely ready for spring up here!!! 1 more thing....currently planning my little girls first trip to the beach this summer!! In Maine though.. water is quite freezing Maine but wi l l be able to look for beach treasures and I would always get in nomatter how cold the water cause its not very often we actually make it down to the beach.. so i be willing to bet she'll want to get in the freezing ice old water too! Which means ill still be getting in lol ! Even on the hottest day the ocean water up here will make your ankles and knees ache! I was a little fish when younger.. a dolphin actually lol i was a competitive swimmer abd and a life guard actually- in a pool though lol up here we have mostly potato fields lol ive literally been to the beach only a handful of times in my life and I'll be 42the end of june!! Can't wait to take her even if it's in Maine lol ! So holy i didnt mean to write a book lol sorry about that!! But thx again Sharmon for letting me tag along today, your saving my sanity lol truly!! Nassas?? Really. I find it fascinating how people prefer different shells. I love those rice olives and the wentletraps. Maybe because I seem to see the nassas everywhere so I don't think they're all that special. I am so spoiled!!! Bunche is a totally different pace. It tends to be a little slimier than the other beaches, but it still has a special place in my heart 🐚❤️

Those broken shells that were dirty, I’d put them in bleach and add them to my shell display in my bathroom. Keep them and I’ll get them from you. I have just come across your channel. Since then I have gone back and watched all of your videos. I am a beach girl since birth and will leave this earth a beach girl. We have a home at Holden Beach N.C. We live about 3-4 hours away in VA. In 2004, my husband passed away while playing in the ocean with our two children. It went from laughter to screams. We all are still trying to find “plan B” for our lives. My son is having the hardest time still. Even in having a catastrophe life event I still love the beach. One day out of a persons life is just that a day not all the other days they spent with us. I have no inclination to travel to FL but after watching your videos I know exactly where to go and what to do. We go shelling when ever we make it to the house. Our family symbol is the sand dollar. My husband had searched his 45 years for one and on his last day he found one. I have it in a shadow box with a photo of him surf fishing at sunset. I know we don’t have the same shells but we do have augers. I now have a project to find out more about our beach and the shells and wildlife. We do have turtles and have watched numerous hatchings. The beach has a turtle patrols to make sure nothing gets to the turtles. Love those little ones going out to start their lives. Sorry for the book.
